RE: Hosting with Wordpress.orgq

2012-10-05 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi all,

Thank you for your helpful replies. I do know about Marsedit and use it to edit
my blog with google apps. But what I want to do with wordpress.org is a little
more in the way of pages, and static text. I want to be able to upload audio,
post a link to a video on youtube, or maybe use VideoPress, and create a feed
for my podcast using powerpress. I have read some things about how some users
have had trouble switching to wordpress.org. I have two more questions, do you
have to pay a fee to remove the adds from your blog if you host with
wordpress.org? Also, if you create multiple websites, do you have to pay to
register each domain separately? Currently, I paid for the 10GB of storage on
my wordpress.com account to upload audio. This is as far as I have gotten. I'm
confused about where to go next. Should I host with Wordpress.org or some other
company. I'm looking in to a company called Westhost, they give you 200GB,
multiple databases with Wordpress which allows you to create multiple sitesfor
$8 a month. I'm not affiliated with this company in any way, just trying to
explain my dilemma a little clearer. I've never used Wordpress with the Mac, so
I'm wondering if what I want to do is even possible with VoiceOver. I'm also
still running Lion, need to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated. If I have offended the moderators, and not posted a
Mac-related topic, I apologize in advance. If this is the case, anyone with
comments/suggestions please feel free to e-mail me off-list.

Sincerely,
Allison

I use Wordpress on the Mac and I host the Tech Doctor podcast with a company

time capsule?

2012-10-05 Thread Kliphton
I currently use a router that is not as accessible as I'd like it to be,
plus they put everything in a cloud based service. Is time capsule still
accessible, if so, how much? And a lot of wireless routers out there these
days has an app to manage your router from your phone, does time capsule
have this feature? I guess it's the AirPort Extreme, it's only called the
time capsule because of the built in storage, so excuse my mistake in the

mountain lion clean install still wants app store access

2012-10-05 Thread Paul Erkens
Dear listers,

After having crated a usb installation stick for mountain lion, off of which I
can boot just fine, I booted the mac book pro from the usb drive, turned on
voiceover, wiped the macintosh hd partition using disk utility, and started the
mac os10 mountain lion installer. A few very strange things are happening.

1. My wifi is working. How can this be? The usb drive ought not to know
anything about my wifi network, its ssid or its password. Why is my wifi
working, without me having to enter the wifi password?

2. When actually installingh os10, then with lion, I had to wait for half an
hour and the installation would be done. This time however, having not lion but
mountain lion on the usb drive from which I am installing, I was asked to sign
in to the app store, and there was no way of getting around it. After I gave
the credentials, the installer started downloading all of mountain lion's files
from the app store, instead of simply copying them over from my usb drive. All
of mountain lion is already on my usb drive, so why download it again from the
app store? It is now taking more than 2 hours to get mountain lion installed.

Q: what can I do to make mountain lion install entirely from my usb drive,
rather than it going into the app store to download 95% of itself again?

Very curious.
Paul.

Re: what, exactly, will iTunes do to my music?

2012-10-05 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. I guess I'm reluctant to give everything to
iTunes completely because, sometimes, I'll play songs in vlc so I can more
easily skip through them (iTunes does not include keyboard shortcuts for
jumping around a file) and so I can, if necessary, change the key or playback
speed (useful for long podcasts I want to speed up). Giving iTunes my media
would mean a long trek into the heart of the folder structure to use an
alternative player when I want to. Would I still have the ability to view by
genre, articst, and album if I did not add my folders to the library but just
told iTunes where they are? That is, does it stil build a database, or do
folders have to be copied into the library to do that? Aside from that, I
suppose I must now do some thinking and figure out what my best course of
action is. Thanks again for your answers.

Re: Hosting with Wordpress.orgq

2012-10-05 Thread David Eagle
Hi Alison, I use hostgator to host my website, which is £4.99 a month
and offers unlimited space (apparently). I use Wordpress.org on my Mac
and PC. I also use the Wordpress app on my IPhone. I don't use any
podcast provider for my podcasts. I make the rss files in notepad on
the PC. I then just use my hosting on hostgator to store the podcasts.
I don't use MarsEdit; I do everything through the Wordpress website or
the IPhone app.

Re: Boot Camp and 10.8.2

2012-10-05 Thread Phil Halton
It just seems easier not to have to learn a whole new software package (I'm
refering to VMWare) to run windows for now. I'm hoping that later, once I've
become familiar with windows7 (I use XP), I'll be able to "import" my
bootcamp into a VMWare virtual environment.

Also, it's bound to run faster in bootcamp, and I assume there'll be less
complexity as well.
BTW: is that possible? will I be able to bring the bootcamped windows7 into
a virtual VMWare machine?

You can read the installation and setup pdf for bootcamp to get familiar
with the steps involved. And, for the windows7 install, I found a
detailed, step-by-step guide for installing windows7 on Black Viper's

search his site for windows 7 install.

I'll no doubt be crowing about my new windows7 machine, or asking

Hi all,

I was wondering how hard it is to install Boot Camp, if it costs money,
and if it is worth it if i already ache VMware Fusion. Waht are the
advantages/disadvantages? would it make the Windows side of my computer
faster/more efficient to be running without the Mac portion running at the
same time, for example? I know others ahve provided instructions, so I
could search for those threads, if instructions were provided about the
best way to search the mail archives, as I don't know.

Also, my other question has to do with 10.8.2. I wondered, since I know
some of you ahve had issues with Voiceover in 10.8.2, owudl yo urecommend
I upgrade from 10.8.1? I am really wanting to improve my Spanish skills,
but my Voiceover defaults to English each time I restart to English even
though my system in in Spanish. I would install 10.8.2 in Spanish to
avoid this, but don't want to make VoiceOver unreliable if 10.8.2 is still
pretty buggy.

Thanks for any help, and I hope this is all clear, being unrelated as both
portiosn of the post are.

Re: what, exactly, will iTunes do to my music?

2012-10-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Just for clarification, the key combination of cmd-option-right arrow skips
forward through your item and cmd-option-left arrow moves skips back in smaller
increments. You are correct in that you can't, though, change the playback
rate in iTunes. There may be a script out there that would achieve this task,
just do a Google search on iTunes scripts and see all the interesting stuff
people have created. In answer to your question about putting things into
Genres and such, it really doesn't matter if the files are in the iTunes folder
or not, as long as they've been added to the iTunes DB, then they will be able
to be managed by iTunes.

Since I am not familiar with boot camp in the slightest, I couldn't venture a
guess, so maybe someone else can offer an opinion.

But yes, I'm sure that it would probably run faster. it would be a native
Windows environment in that case, as a matter of fact.

Re: system dialog but not there

I get this problem at least twice a month and don't even really use
skype. I think it might be some kind of alert about the battery dying
in the keyboard or trackpad for bluetooth. The only way I can get the
annoying announcement to go away is by restarting the computer. would
love to hear if anyone figures this one out.

Re: system dialog but not there

2012-10-05 Thread John Panarese
With Skype and other apps, the system dialog is sometimes related to if you
have Growl installed. So, if there is an event in Skype, such as a contact
going on line or off line, you will get a growl notification that visually
appears for a few seconds. At least, I've had it happen with a pair of eyes
around and this is what was explained to me.

Re: IPhone 4

2012-10-05 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Keith
If you want to go to the voiceover menu, the first thing you need to do is to
find settings on your screen. To do that, there are several ways. You can flick
one finger from left to right or from Mike to left. When you hear settings,
double tap on the screen white voiceover says. Then you need to find general.
Do the same thing that you did before to find settings. When you hear general
double tap on the screen again with one finger. After this, you need to find
accessibility. Just like you did before, and then you go to voiceover. Double
tap on voiceover. Then you find the choices that you want.
Really, the first thing you want to make sure you know how to do with your new
iPhone, is to be able to make and receive phone calls so that you're not
frustrated. Then you can get used to your iPhone. It will take time. It took me
about two weeks to get used to the other options besides phone calling.
Here is an easy way to do phone calling Fernell, and then you can read the
manual to learn more details.
Press the home key until you hear a beep say the word call and the phone
number. Might want to try it on your wife first, so you don't call somewhere
you don't want. To answer your phone you should Bilbil to do it with two
fingers on the screen and double tap with two fingers twice. I can't remember
if that option works only when the screen is locked, or Not.
If you have any other questions, you can ask.

iSonicsAudio Conversion Question

2012-10-05 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I've recently learned about an application that allows audio conversion of
several types of files.
ISonics from www.osxbytes.com is a freeware program that is highly intuitive.
However, after selecting the files I want to convert and pressing the "convert
button" in the toolbar, nothing seems to be happening.
Has anyone used this program before? Have you been able to successfully have it
convert audio files with no problem?

Thanks again folks.

vo seems blazing fast since I removed an activity - is this normal?

2012-10-05 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
As the subject says, I removed an activity and vo, and the mac in general, seem
much faster. The activity simply enabled quicknav in Safari, Chrome, the App
Store, and anywhere else where html is common. However, switching into and out
of any of these apps became very slow. I put up with it for months, but got
sick of it just now and removed the activity. Suddenly, things are faster and
smoother. Did I set this up wrong, or is it normal for activities tied to apps
to make vo run slowly when dealing with those apps? That isn't to say the app
was slow once it got past the initial slowness of switching to it, but that
initial time was rather long and Safari, at least, seems overall more
responsive now. Any thoughts on this?

Have a great day,

if so, would you orient me as to how to disable it so that i can test

No, it's one I set up when I got tired of remembering to toggle quicknav on and
off all the time, but now I think I'd rather do that than keep dealing with
this slowness all the time.

accessible ID3 editor?

2012-10-05 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
Further to my iTunes questions, I am looking for a good id3 editor. I know I
can use Audacity or something like that, but I'd like to be able to select
multiple files, or even whole folders, to change at once. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Boot Camp and 10.8.2

2012-10-05 Thread Phil Halton
Just installed bootcamp/windows7 today. Went smooth as warm milk through a
puppy!

I've installed Microsoft Security Essentials so far and now I'm all about
learning the new quirks introduced in windows7 from windows XP - should take
about a day or so I guess. Found some good win7 tutorial podcasts on BCT.

Since I am not familiar with boot camp in the slightest, I couldn't venture
a guess, so maybe someone else can offer an opinion.

But yes, I'm sure that it would probably run faster. it would be a native
Windows environment in that case, as a matter of fact.

"import" my bootcamp into a VMWare virtual environment.

Also, it's bound to run faster in bootcamp, and I assume there'll be less
complexity as well.
BTW: is that possible? will I be able to bring the bootcamped windows7
into a virtual VMWare machine?

You can read the installation and setup pdf for bootcamp to get familiar
with the steps involved. And, for the windows7 install, I found a
detailed, step-by-step guide for installing windows7 on Black Viper's

www.blackviper.com

search his site for windows 7 install.

I'll no doubt be crowing about my new windows7 machine, or asking

P.S. if you want a microsoft word document of the bootcamp setup and

Subject: Boot Camp and 10.8.2

Hi all,

I was wondering how hard it is to install Boot Camp, if it costs money,
and if it is worth it if i already ache VMware Fusion. Waht are the
advantages/disadvantages? would it make the Windows side of my computer
faster/more efficient to be running without the Mac portion running at
the same time, for example? I know others ahve provided instructions, so
I could search for those threads, if instructions were provided about the
best way to search the mail archives, as I don't know.

I would install 10.8.2 in Spanish to
avoid this, but don't want to make VoiceOver unreliable if 10.8.2 is
still pretty buggy.

Thanks for any help, and I hope this is all clear, being unrelated as
both portiosn of the post are.

2012-10-05 Thread Mauricio Almeida
hi harry,

booth camp does not cost money, except for what you pay for a legal copy of
windows.
I found it to be definitely worth it.
Though i try to do it all on the mac, obviously, it is still good to have
windows. it can come in handy.

Hello,

You can actually edit the ID3 tags in iTunes itself. If you press command-I on
a track or multiple tracks, it will bring up the info dialog where you can
enter in the info for the track.

Hi, that's good to know that it doesn't cost money. I don't regret using

available. if I have Windows already installed via a virtual machine, would I

though there might be a way of installing booth camp using an image instead of
an installation disc.
if there is, unfortunately i can't help you there, as I am totally unaware on
how it works.

thanks

Re: need help with fusion error.

2012-10-05 Thread Mauricio Almeida
hello there,

while i can not give you detailed impression as for my machine booth camp works
best as i use an older odel, vm5 seemed to be much faster than 4 as well as
provide support to windows 8, which i have not tested.
I would be glad to hear more about vm5 as well.

Try this. Highlight the virtual machine and press command+e to open the

accessing files on the mac while running windows via booth camp?

2012-10-05 Thread Mauricio Almeida
hello all,

I know that with programs such as vmware, one can easily access for example, ad
occurrent saved on the mac while running windows, and the contrary.
is there any way of doing such while using booth camp? i see no mac partition
on the list, which is why i ask?
also, is there a way of doing the contrary, and accessing a documents aged in
the windows partition while on the mac?

thank you

mauricio
