Re: ABBYY FineReader Express OCR app on sale for 50% as today's MacUpdate Promo
Thanks. I was trying to figure out what version I have but it wasn't really clear to me from the about window. I know i've done one upgrade since I bought it and that's when we started seeing the duplicate buttons in the Quick Tasks window. But the link you posted definitely showed as 10.6 when the dmg was downloaded and opened. I'll have to go scouting this out eventually in case I should be getting a new version. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. If you've never purchased a MacUpdate promo before, you'll need to create a user account that involves a one- time negotiation of a CAPTCHA. This gives you access to all your receipts of purchases, serial numbers, and download links for the applications you purchased at any later time. There is a trial download link from the mupromo.com page, but I believe it's for the previous version of the software, version 8.2. That means if you're running Mountain Lion it won't pass the new GateKeeper security, I think. And if you purchase it, you'll need to upgrade in order to run the license. If you do decide to buy the product, you should download the full, current version of the app: http://www.abbyydownloads.com/FRMACLion/ABBYY_FineReader_Express.dmg That way, you don't need to update versions from the trial version, and you can just enter the serial number to run this. Sorry for the late catch, but I picked this up off another list. ABBYY FineReader Express will OCR to multiple languages -- most European languages and Russian, but not Asian languages like Chinese. And yes, it's accessible with VoiceOver.l HTH. Cheers, Estther -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. accessible FTP clients?

I guess I'm not clear on what the problem is. I'm on OSX 10.7.5 and to connect to a windows share I just do command-K to connect to a server and then use the smb://servername.blah.com/folder/path nomenclature to connect to where I want to go. Re: samba broken in OS X Lion
Hi, I've tested this again today with a less privileged user. As long as the user has, minimum, Read permissions to the SharePoint, then everything works as it should both in Lion and Mountain Lion. If the user does not have proper permissions to the SharePoint, then the errors you mentioned may appear. You can try to connect by using a more full path approach such as: smb://Server_Name.MyDomain.com/SharePoint/MyFolderName Problems may still arise though if the permissions are not set correctly to the parent SharePoint. So, it doesn't appear to be a problem with smb in Lion or Mountain Lion. It looks to me that it is a permission issue at the Server end. What needs to happen is that you, or most likely, the Group you belong to should have Read privileges within the Security pane of the SharePoint. Because it is Windows, there is also another level of security at the Share itself, I usually allow the specific Group to have Change privileges there as the Security pane is the major factor in controlling access. Hi Doug, I don't know a way to set up audio input and output selections from Terminal, but here are a few ideas that might help: 1. I think this setting is controlled by the preference file, com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist under your account's Library/Preferences folder, although I'm not sure of this. If so, moving that file to the Trash or to your Desktop might reset things to the default input and output devices. I'm not sure this is true, and it might require a restart to take effect. But if you can log in through Terminal from another Mac, you can delete or move the file. For example: mv Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist ~/Desktop Use the tab completion feature of Terminal's bash shell to make typing easier -- for example, after typing the com.apple.audio part of the file name in the path, just type a period and the capital letter A and press tab to let the shell complete the filename with the correct capitalization of letters. That command will move the specified preference file from your Library/Preferences folder to your Desktop when your press return. 2. Another thing you can do is try to unload the Soundflower kernel extension, or even remove it. Again, you'd need to restart your machine for the changes to take effect. The Soundflower kernel extension is installed in: /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.ext (That's slash Systems slash Library slash Extensions slash Soundflower.ext) To unload this from your system using Terminal, you have to use the sudo command and enter your admin password: sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.ext then enter your password at the prompt. I've also read that you may need to issue the command more than once for it to take, which you would do by pressing up arrow and then return a few times. If you want to uninstall Soundflower, which I don't think you do, you could type: sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.ext Again, you need to restart your computer for changes to take effect. 3. If you have a bootable clone of your system on an external drive, shutdown your system, connect the drive, and then start up while holding down the Option key. After about 15 seconds, press your left arrow once, and then press return. You should boot up into your cloned operating system, and have VoiceOver working under that system's defaults. Then you can figure out how to repair things on your internal hard drive's settings. HTH. Re: accessible FTP clients?
Hello, have you tried to use terminal? If the server you are trying to connect to is a secure server the terminal will be your best bet. On the other hand if you have an account on the machine in question and just wish to connect to it in the normal way I think you can use that by means of connecting to server. Re: Recovery partition.
I had this problem as well, the first time you use it, it had to download some additional components. I would try 1 of 2 things. First, I would try waiting 3 to 5 minutes and then doing command-F5 and see if Fred comes up. If that doesn't work, see if you can get some sighted help to read the screen for you. Fwd: have Voiceover distinguish between textareas and single-line inputs in html areas
Hi all, My message is below Apple's reply, but the gist is that I want vo to say something like multi-line edit text when encountering a textarea element. Basically, I want to know if pressing enter in a form will submit the form or insert a new line. I've never heard vo make this distinction, but Apple says it does if the site is coded right? I'm a bit confused, as my (out of date) knowledge of html tells me that the textarea element is multi-line while the input element with type set to text is single-line. So, what extra coding is required? Am I going crazy and vo really does say this? Any thoughts? Re: Server software for network backup
Well, if it's networked storage you want, my first thought is NAS. Network accessed storage is basically a hard drive any computer on your network can access. I plan on using this, for instance, to store media. This way, my whole family can have access to movies and music, and none of us need to keep these files on our local machines. Let us know if this isn't the sort of thing you mean. Re: have Voiceover distinguish between textareas and single-line inputs in html areas
Alex, I think what they are referring to here has to do with alternative text such as that commonly found accompanying graphics or images on webpages to give descriptions which screenreaders are able to read. It sounds as if they are saying that a site developer should be able to enable something similar for form controls, almost like a help tag, but if this is the case, it isn't something I am familiar with.
