Re: New PDF reader
I'm not sure about that particular one, but my university brought to my attention another new PDF reader called something like Vision Impaired PDF reader or accessible PDF reader or something. It advertised itself as being an accessible PDF reader for companies concerned with accessibility. However, it just had built in speech which would read out the text of the PDF. So no particular screen reader support. Perhaps useful for people with low vision who could see enough to click the speak button but didn't have a screen reader, but no use for screen reader users. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: mail on macbook pro
1. This has probably got something to do with your email provider (Yahoo) and/or the fact that you're using POP3. It can also be with the type of account you've set up. I'd strongly recommend you look into using IMAP rather than POP. If you want to import your contacts from Yahoo you might be able to export them from the Yahoo website and then import them into the Contacts app on your MacBook. I'd recommend using your iCloud account for reminders and calendars and the like. 2. When you've selected the mailbox you want, stop interacting with the mailbox list, navigate to the right to the message list table and interact with it.. You could also try VO-J. Another thing to be aware of is you can put mailboxes in your favourites bar, and then use the short cut keys Command with numbers 1 through 9 to move to the first nine mailboxes in your favourites bar. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Thanks, Kawal, I'm thinking of getting one. It's so much more expensive than other routers, and I already have another router, but I think it will be worth it for something that works smoothly with all my Apple devices. I'm tempted to pay the extra to get a Time Capsule but that might be a little indulgent at this point. 1password passwords: where do they reside?
Hi listers, When inside 1password, one can generate a new password and then save it. Where are those stored? On the mac, when I arrow down the sidebar, I don't find a passwords item. It's not in secure notes, not in any other category, and it looks as if the generated passwords are not in 1password. However, when I type the purpose of the password in the search box, then the sidebar has no selected items, and the search result, being indeed the password I was looking for, is then found. But how do I find such generated passwords in a list, like all other categories? Could it be that I accedentially hid a sidebar item? Hope to hear back. RSS Yet Again Any good iPhone App to sync with Feed Wrangler
Hey all, I know it's like beating a dead horse, as this topic has been endless since the demise of Google Reader. Still trying to get use to Feed Wrangler, and I don't really care for Feed Wrangler's iPhone app and lack of options. I would really love to get an iPhone app that makes use of my favorite feature in Lire where it uses the action option in the rotor and you can swipe down to delete an article when going through your unread articles. Any suggestions for a good iPhone RSS app that is accessible works with sync with Feed Wrangler, and has this swipe feature? Hello Janine, I think the reading of the message that just arrived is happening in the Notification Centre and not in Mail. Go into System Preferences which is both in the Dock and in the Apple menu and select Notification Centre. You can then move Mail out of the list of applications that use notifications. Re: Can anyone recommend an accessible OCR program for Mac OSX?
Hi Ed I guess it depends on what you need to do. I have VueScan together with Abby Fine Reader. That works fine for me. There is one that I have seen that, if I needed to tons of scanning, I would consider. I saw it once, and I was impressed. HOwever, it's expensive. It is called iPal and it runs with a camera device that takes pictures of the page and gives it back, almost immediately. the first two I mentioned are considerably less money and can be gotten from the app store. Hi Gigi, I'm not looking for something like Ipal, a commercial app is fine for my needs. Do you have a preference over Bootscan or Abbyy Fine Reader? I've used Abbyy in the past under Windows. Re: Can anyone recommend an accessible OCR program for Mac OSX?
Hello Ed, Many of us use a combination of VueScan and ABBYY FineReader because it's easier to scan multiple pages with VueScan then pass the file containing multiple images to FineReader for the OCR. ABBYY FineReader is available in the Appstore and will work directly with a scanner, but VueScan has to be purchased from the developer at: www.hamrick.com You can use VueScan without a license but it leaves a watermark which upsets ABBYY FineReader. Re: The New AirPort Extreme.
To each there own. I am one of those who only backs up manually. so that probably means once every 2 months. I also have 2 8TB network attached storage devices, so I also back up the files and apps that are most important to me, along with googol drive, drop box, sky drive, as well as iCloud. So I know what you mean. Maybe I am just a storage freek since total including my time capsule, I have a total of 15TB of storage. and yes it all gets used one way or another. Mostly to back up my movies, music, and family pictures. Re: Can anyone recommend an accessible OCR program for Mac OSX?
Hello Ed, VueScan can do OCR but it isn't as good as ABBYY FineReader. If all you need is to read printed mail, then VueScan will probably work for you. I must admit, I haven't tried it in English for a long time, but I do know that in French, VueScan is horrible. If I have time, I'll give the English VueScan OCR a try. email question
Hello: Suddenly when I open an email message I am not going directly into the body of the message. Instead I land on the message headers. This is annoying because I have to interact with the text which isn't a big deal but it is just one more step in what should be a simple matter of hitting enter on a message and having it open. This is new behavior. Any ideas? Jean -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group.
