Hmmm, try redownloading them in the "customize" part of the speech preferences.
Go to choose a voice, and choose customize.

I have Roboform for the Mac installed. Its toolbar shows in Safari

Re: Messages in Mountain Lion

2014-04-25 Thread Brandon Olivares
Once you're in conversations, you interact with the table. Then you can
navigate to find the conversation you want to reply to. If you want to text
someone via iMessage, you have to hit the compose button, then enter either
their phone number, or if they are in your contacts you can enter part of their
name. It will autocomplete if you hit down arrow.

Your buddies are listed in a separate window. Press command-1 to get into the
buddy list. Press enter on a buddy you want to talk to, and it will open a
conversation with them.

Hope this helps,
Brandon

voice changes after mavericks upgrade

2014-04-25 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,

This machine had Mountain Lion, and I had installed some extra voices,
Samantha, Tom and the Russian Milena, along with Jill, I think. Now, with
Mavericks, although those 1st three I mentioned are listed as possible voices,
they seem to have disappeared, and others are available. In the text to speech
tab of the speech and dictation preference pane, once I downloaded the new
voices, it looks like the ones like Milena for sure, and I think maybe Tom and
Samantha, have disappeared now. But they still show up in my voice over
listings. Does anybody know what's up with that? Can I get these voices back,
and if not, how do I get them out of my voice over choices?

a weird issue with the save dialog box

2014-04-25 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

I have noticed that, ever since the latest security update, the save dialog
that appeares when ever I try to save something behaves very very strangely.
When ever I try to VO+left all the way, or use go to the beginning using
VO+home, I cannot go right to the beginning of the dialog to edit the text of
the name of the file being saved. Every single time I hit the tag editor while
pressing VO+left, I always get pushed right back to the save button all the way
on the right. Has anybody else noticed this behavior? I tried disk repair
thinking that might solve it but it don't do the trick. Anybody got any ideas
on what I might need to change now? My actual settings for Voice Over have not
changed from what they were before. thanks.

However, when trying to access this file path nothing happens, and when trying

Does anyone have any ideas on where this folder may be located, or if the

No, assigning commands is ordinarily accessible. I just can't find the one that

VO and Flash Apps

2014-04-25 Thread Todd W
Hi All,

I apologize if this has been covered before, but is there any way
VoiceeOver works with Flash apps in a browser window? I have a VMware
administration app that's flash based and I get no VO response from it at
all. Just wondering if it's this specific app or all flash apps.

Thanks,

Todd

For all Trackpad Commander

2014-04-25 Thread Chris Apple boy

Hi all
The Trackpad Commander allows one to control VoiceOver using familiar
gestures such as one finger double tap. This is disabled by default and
can be enabled in two ways.

1. Through the VoiceOver Utility under Commanders, Trackpad Tab.
2. Press control-option then whilst holding them down rotate clockwise
on the trackpad.

Re: Any way to reach status menu items that do not fit on the screen?

2014-04-25 Thread 'Chris Blouch ' via MacVisionaries
I haven't figured out a way around the limitation. Generally the menu
items will trump space used by the status menu items (menu extras) so
depending on how many of those you have and how many menus your app is
and how wide your screen is, some of the status items will just
disappear. This is not just an accessibility problem as nobody can reach
the hidden status items. I have this problem on our Mac mini at home
which is hooked to a regular old tube TV, so we run it at very low
resolutions (800x600 or 1024x768). So depending on what's running, menu
status items often no longer fit. I did try to pare down the number of
items as much as possible. One thing that helped was to set the "Show
fast user switching menu" to Icon in the Users & Groups system
preference, if you use that. By default it listed my full name next to
the clock, sucking up a lot of horizontal space. The only thing I could
turn up was a couple apps like AccessMenuBar and NoMenuBar which
basically are apps that have just one tiny menu, allowing the status
items to expand most of the way across. Article from 2012 here:

Hi,

able to beyond them, i.e. activate the ones that are off-screen
and need to be scrolled to.

Any ideas if this can be resolved?? I'd like to avoid closing some
of my running apps if I don't have to.

Re: Strange, aggravating, worsening typing issue

2014-04-25 Thread Christine Grassman
I thought of that, but since I have never had issues with this before, and have
had the MacBook for over three years, it would be awfully strange if this were
happening with such frequency now. Is there some setting that I might have
changed inadvertently which would make the track pad more sensitive and
reactive?

I am so aggravated. For the past two days, when I write in email or Text
Edit, I hear beeps or clicks every few words or so, and focus is lost and
goes to the top or bottom of the screen, or after a clicking sound,
something pops up, like "dock" or "preferences" or "reading menus".
Something very odd is going on. I have tried rebooting. I have asked a
sighted person as I type if anything is popping up on the screen, but
nothing appears. The problem is increasing in frequency and interfering with
my ability to get work done. Just now, it happened again, and the edit menu
popped up, even though I did not do anything which should have resulted in
its coming up. Please help ASAP.

Re: buying new iMac

That will be a different setup. You will have two hard drives. Not one fusion
drive. So, you can install bootcamp on the ssd. Could be interesting to know if
you can make a partition for bootcamp saved data on the hard drive from within
bootcamp. I beleive it will work. Since you will not have one fusion drive.

I thought my computer was running a bit slow so took a look at Activity Monitor

I don't remember that many going under Windows but it has been a while so
perhaps I have forgotten.

Assign Braille Command to toggle six and eight-dot braille?

2014-04-25 Thread Teresa Cochran
hi, all,

I was going to set up a Braille command to toggle between six and eight-dot
Braille, but I can't find it in the list of possible Braille commands to add in
VO utility. Am I missing something? If there was one already assigned by
default, I fear i might have lost it. I think I've gotten default commands back
by deleting the customized one for the assigned key command.

Re: Internet Recovery on MBP 13

2014-04-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

What exactly do you mean by Internet Recovery. Do you have a Carbonite backup
or some other Cloud based backup? Not sure on other Cloud backup solutions but
Carbonite does not backup system files so makes it only a partial recovery.
Carbonite along with the Recovery Partition is quite a good backup solution.
If you mean the Recovery Partition and utilities available through it that come
with your MacOS, then yes, it is totally accessible.

HTH.

Re: display brailles

2014-04-25 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
Does your Braille display haven't put keys? If it does, you can press the space
bar with the S letter and get to the menu. You also might be able to set up a
key command in the VoiceOver utility. There are some Braille commands that
apply to Braille displays in particular, no matter which one they are. There
are some that are unique to a particular display, like mine has some special
keys that do different things.

Gigi

Re: Looking for What to Test in 10.9.3

2014-04-25 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
Yes, I already thought of something. I am having some weird issues in finder
where if I use command shift oh and going to documents I can't see my files
properly. I am using column view most of the time because I like it better. I
would test this myself except I have an open case on my Focus 14 braille
display, so I don't want to do it until I talk to Apple first.

Internet Recovery on MBP 13

2014-04-25 Thread Daniel Chavez
Hi,
I was wanting to do internet recovery on my MacBook Pro 13 inch, late 2011, but
I was wondering whether or not voiceover works with this method of recovery?
Has anyone tried this to see? If so, how did it work for you?

2014-04-25 Thread Mario Navarro

hi.
You can tell what's new for the voice over in 10.9.3 if they exist of course .
... the ibooks continues with the same accessibility issues?
What's new in accessibility to vision in 10.9.3?
is there any update of voice over in navigation on safari?
There is now better support for reading PDF with the voice over?
thanks.
cheers.

Re: Help | AppleScript to Change Table Name in Pages

2014-04-25 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Here's a link to my script You'll probably notice it has difficulties with
tables which are not created by AppleScript. It can, however, create tables for
you which you can then rename. In any case, this might help some of you realise
the oddities and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it and develop a more
effective script.

Here's the URL:

Re: Looking for What to Test in 10.9.3

2014-04-25 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Alex,
Not sure if you have the iWork applications, but if you have Numbers, can you
please check the following:
Select a table, jump to the format inspector, select the Tables radio button,
move to the end of the format inspector and interact with the scroll area.
Navigate to the various checkboxes for showing or hiding grid lines. Compare
the name of the button with what VoiceOver announces as the help tag. In the
version I'm running the name for some of them and the help tag don't match.
Also, check whether the read/unread status of messages in Mail is announced
before the message preview.
Maybe speak to Anne about testing whether VoiceOver is correctly announcing the
insertion point of the keyboard cursor.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know. I'm sure there's more.
Best,
Nic
