A Good Youtube to Mp4 Converter for Mac
Hey guys. I just tried to use the Youtube converter I normally use, but every time I click on the download link to get it, it takes me to a website called add.ly. So now I'm stuck because I doubt Youtube will let us use MacTubes again, so the question is do you guys know of any good Youtube to MP4 converters or any converters that will let me convert to both MP3 and MP4? I'm asking for MP4 because I want to watch it as well as listen to it, and I want to keep the video just in case they remove it. Thanks in advance. Re: Express or extreme
Hi, Just to clear things up here: • both the Express and Extreme can act as routers. The Extreme just has a more powerful processor and more ports, but the Express has the same router features. • yes, the Extreme supports Airplay, but does not have the audio output combo jack that the Express has. Thus, when planning to connect to a digital or analog audio AirPlay connection for streaming audio, or AirTunes as it was coined in the past, you'll need the Express. The Extreme will support the AirPlay mirroring through to an Apple TV wirelessly, but has no audio output jack. Later... Re: Pros and cons of a Mac mini
My Mac mini is about 8 years old but I used it without a monitor for the first 7 years I had it. Way back in the original version, leopard maybe, it had problems running without a monitor. But once I upgraded it to snow leopard, it had no problems. Maybe they re-introduced the problems though. I can't say for sure. I now use my Mac mini only as a amazon movie player so it has a monitor connected all the time. I would also question the advice to get a Macbook Air. Why pay for a monitor you don't need? You can borrow a monitor for the few times you need sighted assistance. For the mac mini, you can get an adapter called the fit headless that will connect to the hdmi port and this will avoid the need for a monitor. The other thing is, I'm unsure just how watered down it will be, though I hear it really won't be worth it for anyone who is serious about creating audio. Maybe I'm over paranoid, but this is what I'm told. There are a few of us, especially Slau Halliton who has been using ProTools for over 12 years, who has been in contact with Avid, formerly Digidesign, almost since the beginning of PT accessibility back in the OS8 days with Outspoken, even before Voiceover existed! Yeah, if you have the pro version, and you want to record in m4A, or Apple's other propriatary formats, then Quicktime will work. Text boxes in Pages?
Hey list, I'm trying, once more, to get more into Pages. Hopefully, this time, I can make myself stick with it long enough to get a handle on this thing. Currently, I have a few basic questions: I'm making a template I can use to fill out client reports and bills (I'm an AT instructor and have to email my clients this information). I thought I'd put text boxes in where I'll be entering text that can change, and just type the text that won't. Here's a super simple example: Alex Hall [auto-inserted date] Client Name: [text box for client name] Number of Hours: [text box for hours] You get the idea. I'm running into a few questions, though. 1. How do I get the text box to fit the height of the line of text it's on? VO reports that it's 1.2 inches tall, which strikes me as rather large. 2. Do I even need a text box, or am I trying to use one where a different item would work better? 3. If I do need one, how can I insert text around it? I inserted one, but even if I go to the end of the line and hit return, then type, the box is pushed along to the end of my new line of text instead of staying where I put it. Thanks in advance for any answers anyone can provide. -- Have a great day, Alex Hall mehg...@icloud.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Text boxes in Pages?
Hi Alex, I commend you. I can create an accessible form with Word 2010 or 2013, but I have stayed away from Pages. In Word, the developer's tab needs to be activated. Is there something equal to that in Pages? This is something that I would do on the PC side and save it as a DOCX file access on the Mac side. Good luck and I am interested on how you were able to complete this task. Re: Pros and cons of a Mac mini
Very similar story at my end: belligerent XP user won’t move because he just can’t see any point and everything he already has works, except half the web which he just avoids. I disagree with those saying it’s an obvious jump to later versions of Windows. Notwithstanding that there’s still a curve, and the general decline of keyboard and screen reader accessibility since XP, I can’t help thinking that if you’re going to change you may as well change to a platform of your preference rather than simply continuing to pedal the treadmill. For example, somebody opposed to ribbons may prefer OS X for its menus. Quite a lot has changed in Windows since XP; perhaps changing platform is more than just the screen reader. Even somebody with limited patience will be happy to learn something they see as more appropriate and amenable to their needs. The Mac Mini is a nice machine, and it can be made to work well standalone, but especially since the removal of the quad-core version I tend to agree with the person who said you may as well go for an Air. For a first Mac experience, it’s going to make a far better impression, too. The Mini can be for later, when the spec bump is worth the slight inconvenience of not having a monitor and not having the portability, though perhaps a more powerful machine (an iMac) would be on the cards if they were really committed. JMO, of course. Cheers, Sabahattin -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. However, I don't agree with the folks who say if you're going to buy, get an air, not a mini, and here's why. It is true that with a mini, you must buy a keyboard and speakers. And I think you still need a monitor, although those are cheap, and if he has a Windows machine with the monitor, he probably already has something that would work. The cost of the mini would probably come up to be about the cost of an air if you add those things in, depending on the price of the speakers of course. You would end up with better speakers, of course. You would also have the possibility of getting a full keyboard including the keypad, which does not come on the air. That gives you two sets of complete arrow keys plus the keypad which you can use with the keypad commander. Ok, sorry must be getting mixed up. please explain what this app does? I thought it let you run a mac mini with no display connected? but now it would seem you have to have your I phone switched on so it can send the video is this correct? I would not really want to have to do this as like now my phone is switched off I just have my mac mini connected to the TV with a long HDMI leed and have the telly off and it just works. thanks in advance. Re: Pros and cons of a Mac mini
I agree with that as well. Furthermore, the Mac OS does not change its UI and UX every version or so. Apple, unlike Microsoft, has learned that users would rather not learn a literally new OS every upgrade. Sure, additions like the Doc in Os X was new, but it didn't take changing the Finder into a touch panel to add the Doc. Also, Apple doesn't change so much that it has to virtually, literally, take back what it said Windows 10 as opposed to 8. Also, if your friend speaks une autre langue, excuse my French, he will have plenty of other choices to choose from on the Mac, all for free. From Arabic to Vietnamese, OS X has the multilingual user covered. If your friend wants to cool down after his purchase of his Mac and not spend so much money on apps, all he must do is look in the Applications folder and there will be plenty of apps to rule the day, from a calculator music-creation studeo, terminal for the older generation of computing, and text based games I might add, iTunes for all his musical desires, and even a chess game for the gifted gamer. All of these apps and the chess game are completely, and yes utterly accessible to the point that a blind person can even command thine chess pieces to do thy will. pawn a6 to a7. Anyway, I hope this helps someone, I just spent 15 minutes of my life typing away on braille screen input, all on my iPhone. The basic reason for wanting the Mac Mini is cost. He also does not want to take the time to learn windows eight or windows 10. He's been stuck on Windows XP since long before support stopped last year. His only dealings with voiceover is with iOS devices along with his AppleTV. He is not one who does well with major change in electronics in his life. I don't want to turn this into an Apple versus Windows discussion other than to say I suggested he look for a Windows 7 machine because it was something that he is familiar with. My question for the group is this; other than the base cost, as I understand it of $699 for the Mac Mini, what are the auxiliary purchases needed in order to make it functional? If I'm correct, that does not include a screen, does it include a keyboard or speakers? I also know firsthand what it's like attempting to learn a new operating system and screen reader on your own. I had the patients. He does not. Thank God for this group. I would've been lost. I'm attempting to get him to join it before he makes his purchase. Any suggestions or help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Many many thanks, Pam Francis -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Just to add, that the airport extreme does support airplay. I have always used airplay with the airport extreme. From reading a few articles it appears to me that the extreme does not support airplay? I would prefer using airplay. Re: What about Logic Pro?
Thanks for the info on protools. I signed up yesterday to receive protools first and am looking forward to it. Right now I have logic pro as well and find it workable but not as easy as I think it could or should be. Also, if I do anything commercially, the idea of “that’s what the pros us” carries some weight as well. Chris, you did very well on the song as well. As soon as I get some recordings with the new macbook under my belt, I’ll post them somewhere for those interested to hear. Once again, thanks for the good info. Oh, by the way that too and you did digging up bones, really great job I liked it. Anything from version 9 all the way up to 12 will work, but V12 is going to probably be your best bet. You don't need the HD version. I think for what you say you're going to be doing, just the standard PT12 will do you fine. You wrote: More, may I open in PT 12 the same project I've worked on Garageband? The short answer, no. The long answer, no, but yes. No, you cannot open the actual Garageband project from within ProTools, but if you first export the project from GB as a wave file, an m4A, or even an mp3, then those files can be imported on to a track within ProTools, inside your ProTools session. You wrote: Has PT 12 its own keyboard to play, I mean the computer keyboard as Garageband. It does, yes, but I don't know about the accessibility of it. That's why I told you about the PTAccess mailing list. If you join, someone on there could surely help you. As for there being an active dialog, yes. There are a few of us, especially Slau Halliton who has been using ProTools for over 12 years, who has been in contact with Avid, formerly Digidesign, almost since the beginning of PT accessibility back in the OS8 days with Outspoken, even before Voiceover existed! Venny... not sure his last name, not Somarco, a different Venny, has also been doing things since about that long and has been in contact constantly with them. Kevin Reeves, and even Chuck Reichel are very very very very heavily involved. None of them as much as Slau though. Slau is gonna be your main go to, trust me. I'd also encourage you to look at: http://www.protoolswithspeech.com which is ran by a guy named Matt Diemert. It will cost you about $50 to get the tutorials, but all total it is around 8 and a half hours worth of training material with Voiceover and ProTools. It has proved to be invaluable! I cannot even begin to tell you how much I've learned from that audio guide. Yes, I did some stuff on Applevis, but please don't use it. It's not complete, and honestly it's very very out of date. If you want to check out Logic, which I personally don't care for, but, it's your judgement, you can look at: http://www.icanworkthisthing.com That site is ran by a blind Logic user named Keith Reety. I personally hate his audio tutorials. He's not very explanatory, and he goes very very very quickly, and doesn't really seem to demonstrate anything as much as just kind a run his mouth. That's only my opinion though of very many others. Here is a recording I did all me playing and singing in ProTools. This should give you an idea of what you can do. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16962268/I%27m%20Diggin%20up%20Bones.mp3 Anyone of you on this list are more than welcome to grab this and have a listen. It's not going anywhere. If any of you have ProTools and would like the raw session to practice with, let me know. I still have it and would be happy to zip it up. As for PT12 having its own software instruments, yes. There is a collection called Air Creative. In here are 3 things. Mini Grand, which is a piano sample. Personally, I'd prefer using Synthogy's Ivory, but that's quite pricy. Built in, you also get a great Hamand B3 modeler, but I don't recall its exact name. Finally you get the XPand2 libraries, which is over 300 different samples which are modeled from actually instruments. They are true samples. It's not just a software synth, although, they are triggered via a midi controller/keyboard, or through the on screen keyboard you'd play with the
