mac, twitter: help on yorufukurou

2012-04-21 Thread Elena Brescacin
Hello all,
I am here to ask a simple question about the wonderfully accessible twitter
client called yorufukurou.
I manage to perform all actions, except for following and unfollowing users!
Well, knowing the exact username of person you want to follow and unfollow,
it's quite simple. just open a new tweet and write, follow username. or
unfollow username.
But I think, this client has some kind of menu which would allow you to perform
such actions. Follow, unfollow, block
How to reach these actions?
Assume I am on the time line, or on the window that opens pressing command+u,
to go to a specific user typing his name
I just read on applevis.com that there is a drawer reachable via command
option apostrophee, but, as I do not have an american keyboard, I do not know
what they meant
if backslash or some other key
  please let me know!
thanks

hi, it's not in the app store.
Go here:
http://www.assistiveware.com/product/infovox-ivox/downloads
it's for the mac osx, not for iDevices
you have to download the program, then as I can understand you have a
voice manager where you can download and try what you want

I'm going to contact developers, before buying a license, to tell them

When you do steps one and two, if you look there will be a area where it

adium, growl and similar: the end of the story

2012-03-22 Thread elena brescacin
hello,
at the end I have performed several tests on my macbook pro, to find a solution
for my third-party apps independent tts, which seemed to conflict with
voiceover when turned on.
my last consideration is: if voiceover talks using a Scansoft voice,
independently from language, system messages from third-party applications do
not talk! I can make an example: daniel compact for english, diego compact for
spanish, paolo compact for italian
these voices work instead, for english:
alex, bruce, fred, victoria, vicky... and similar. all those in that menu. The
ones coming from scansoft do not answer at all!
Shawn, May, and others using adium and/or skype with growl: would you please
give it a try, with voice called daniel compact?
before writing or calling apple I would like to have some statistics and
third-person-made tests!
thanks for help

Re: someone using adium?

2012-03-21 Thread Elena Brescacin
Hello,
you mean it talks with voiceover activated? System messages, adium
messages, are read by adium voice without problems?
To get this result I must turn voiceover off! So, till I solve this
annoyance, I just adopted this solution: read also sent messages
aloud. then blindly write on keyboard with voiceover turned off, press
enter and wait. But, I need to solve this issue somehow and I do not
know what's the cause. I suppose it's something regarding Growl, as,
another program I use that is iChat, does not have this issue.
I ran the growl uninstaller script when I deleted growl 1.2 to buy the
one on mac app store, now I'd like to delete growl completely, to
ensure it cannot interfer with anything; even if you move the
application to trash, do some file stay stored in the user library?
thanks a lot for help

Alex, speaks with different rate and tone from my system voice, which is
used for other self-voicing programs. If Growl is using the system voice,
it's doing so without obeying the settings I changed in Preferences. That's
my experience. Also, even when I check Hide all notifications, in Growl,
Skype will still tell me who comes on or off line, and announce events
themselves, if not their text content; this is done with the system voice as
I have pre-set it. Growl, when it is allow to speak all notifications, uses
a much slower version. That's just my experience.

yep! I give you the procedure right now. Correct me if something is
wrong; well I do not know exact English words because I have adium in
my mother language but the concept is the same!
1. opening the preference dialog box
2. interacting with the toolbar and choosing events
3. choosing preferred event - for example, received message
4. setting it up with read aloud
It asks to give a name to the set of event notifications, I just
called it audio notification - copy
of course you can add as many events you want with the events table,
pressing the add button at the end of window.
The funny thing is, that even if it's set correctly, it speaks only if
voiceover is turned off!

I just set up audio notifications, for the collection of events. but
maybe it'd be better with defaults.

2012/3/21, May McDonald mcdonald@gmail.com:
Ok, almost the same except steps 4 and 5.

When you do steps one and two, if you look there will be a area where it
says default. If you leave that and then go to your step three and do
everything there, pick an event, tell it to speak, play a sound and whatever
else you want, once you press ok it should ask if you want to have the name
say default copy. Say yes there and then go through the rest of the events
you want to change and they will all be under the default copy section.

 That should work.

Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl

2012-03-21 Thread Elena Brescacin
Jenny, here's how to solve this trouble.
when it says growl is in the background, go through windows by
command+tab (i am not sure the voiceover command to switch among
applications, ctrl+options+f1+f1, or double-tap with 2 finger to the
left with trackpad, works)
anyway: when you reach growl, it would say: growl has no windows
then, go to the dock with ctrl+f3 or the dedicated voiceover command.
look for the Growl icon, then, control+option+shift+m.
you should find a menu popping up, and there you'd find the growl preferences!
if the menu item is grayed, you should go up with up arrow and find
reactivate growl
I wasted one hour behind this issue!

Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl

2012-03-20 Thread Elena Brescacin
I have this suspicion too!
For example: growl has, on its settings - i do not remember where-, a
button called preview which makes you listen the voice you are
choosing for notifications. With voiceover on, preview does not talk.
with voiceover off, preview talks and loops! till I do not close the
window I hear the preview message!
The strange thing is growl does not read notifications with other apps
too; I tried on line with Musicality support (musicality, an app to
listen to last.fm service) if growl notified me the song title
but nothing worked to me, the app creator, tried both with voiceover
off and on, getting a positive result of growl talking in both cases!
To complete information, I just tell you I am using OSX lion with
compact voice. Premium voice is the system's
or, maybe, should I deactivate system notifications, such as should I
turn the computer off? in system preferences, voice?

Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl + Facebook

2012-03-20 Thread Elena Brescacin
Mark, the guy who made me hear growl in skype, had snow leopard too.
And i have Lion. We tried on line to do the same procedure explained
by shawn and nothing happens, my correspondant stayed upset as me (now
he does not use growl any longer)
so i have no one to help *sigh

2012/3/20, Mark BurningHawk Baxter markbaxte...@gmail.com:
While I am running Snow leopard here and Growl 32 bit, I notice that I can
neither change the voice Growl uses, nor its speed. Thus, I now have a
message / system voice, VoiceOver, Growl's voice and, every half hour, Vicky
announcing the time. Freaks my friends out.

Now, as far as the Skype Home, facebook integration thing: I am actually
rather disappointed in it. First, if you compare what's in the HTML pane of
Skype Home and what you see if you go to your home page via a browser, there
are posts in the browser that aren't listed in Skype Home. Also, while I
like the idea of my mood messages and/or music going to my wall (makes me
look all cool and edgy and ... stuff...), reading through others' wall /
status updates is problematic--VO keeps getting hung up, on picture icons,
there are a lot of HTML tags that aren't read out, and I suspect lots of
stuff is missing, even more than I find when comparing the Skype Home pane
 to the Safari page...

This all could be due to the fact that Im not running Lion. It might also
be that I only see the Facebook of those who also have Skype Home running.
Either way, it's still way easier to read Facebook posts from the website by
 navigating by headings...

There's my rant. Happy Tuesday! :)

No, the problem with Skype is independent of those with Growl; they are
just occurring simultaneously. What I *REALLY!* want you to tell Skype is
that the audible sounds that announce new messages do *NOT* play, still,
if your focus is in the Skype window. Regardless of whether Growl is set
to speak messages, the little bleep should bleep when a message comes in,
regardless of where your focus is. It has occurred that I have waited for
messages to come in and not moved my focus out of the Skype window, and
they have arrived silently; this is due *BOTH* to Growl's voice issues
*AND* to Skype's inability to speak message text as well as to play the
bleeping message received sound. Both of these things need to be fixed in
Skype. Growl's voice issues need to be fixed as well.

someone using adium?

2012-03-20 Thread elena brescacin
hello,
maybe most of you saw the thread I had with some people about automatically
spoken chats in skype program
well, maybe I noticed where's the trouble: when voiceover is activated Growl
does not talk, while it reads whole messages when it's off!
But, I noticed, it is not a growl problem, that's why I asked if someone is
using adium as instant messenger.
I set up notification in this client too, as it was known to be working with
voiceover. And the problem came back! Adium is not connected to growl!
well, it was... but now I just deactivated growl from adium, so it shouldn't
work
but the result is the same: with adium: if voiceover is on, notification stay
silent. if it's off, they talk!
what's going on? someone uses adium regularly and vo works? osx lion 10.7.2,
and adium 1.5.
thanks!

Re: an update on my ITunes crash issue

2012-03-13 Thread Elena Brescacin
hello, thanks for information
even if iTunes does not crash to me, I have a strange problem: while
playing a mp3 file saved into my time capsule, that is on the network
not physically on the computer, iTunes gives an eternal busy message
and stays like so, till I force iTunes's exit using option+command+esc
I'll try your instructions and see if it comes back again!
Otherwise, no matter... for mp3's i'll use VLC till iTunes gets fixed
bye and thanks

Re: ITunes crashing all the time now

2012-03-09 Thread Elena Brescacin
I have not crashes and problems at all, too
Till now! I did not add anything to my library yet
The only trouble I find with iTunes, is while exploring the device. I
mean: I go to the second bar, where to interact to find used and
available space
I do not know the english term. but it's after the radio buttons
telling info, summary, apps, ringtones, music...
it's the object containt the sync and apply button, when managing
ringtones or apps or music or other files syncing.
Once, it said, for example:
capacity: 28.7 in GB
audio: 2.5 gb
apps: 7.5 gb
and so on.
Now, it says:
28.5 gb. 2.5 gb. 7.5 gb...
without telling you what the number corresponds to! I already sent an
e-mail to accessibility team explaining the issue.
I talked to a friend using Mountain Lion's preview version and he does
not notice crashes on iTunes but has the same problem as mine.
I am talking, of course, about iTunes for mac; i have not tested
windows version yet.

iOS: how to use Siri correctly?

2012-03-07 Thread Elena Brescacin
Hi
sorry if I am a bit silly in questions:
how does Siri work?
I mean:
with my old 3GS's voice recognition, I was used to say:
call John Doe
the voice answered: which phone number should I call? mobile, main,
home, iPhone, and so on.
I just answered the word. main, iPhone, etc. without doing anything
else before or after, and the call started.
Now, I tried the same mechanism with Siri, on my 4S and it returned no answer!
Call *contact
siri answers: which phone numbers should I call? *numbers list
I tried, both answering directly the question, and pressing the
listen button the one representing a microphone and saying the
single word. main, iPhone and so on
nothing happened. Or, better. It answered: you said. Maine! instead of
main, siri understood maine! maybe this is because of my
not-native-english pronunciation, but who knows? I also listened to a
demo siri video and they did not figure it out with phone calls, too
but my doubt is: when talking to siri. every time you have to
interact, you must press the microphone button?
How does it work, for example, with a bluetooth headset on? just press
the button used to activate voice recognition every time you have to
perform a command for siri to answer?
thanks a lot for your help

Re: Is the I phone 4s worth it?

2012-03-06 Thread Elena Brescacin
Hi, I think you would have a very good machine if you get a 4S; if you
switch from 3gs to 4s, as I did, you'll notice how fast the 4s is!
Personally, I gave up using some apps with my 3gs, as updating from
4.x firmware to 5.0.x, they became very very slow and slowed the whole
iPhone down.
Now I am again happily using all its functionalities and all the
applications I bought!
Except for siri, but just because it is not in my mother language yet
and it does not properly recognize if you do not have a mother English
pronunciation

Re: Is the I phone 4s worth it?

2012-03-06 Thread Elena Brescacin
Hello,
and consider the upgrade operation is painless.
I mean: you can transfer your life from the 3gs to the 4S in a
completely painless way, the only condition is you constantly back
your iPhone up, both via iTunes, on the computer, and via iCloud.
If last backup was yesterday, and today you just got your 4s, just
restore yesterday's iCloud backup and that's all!
The only attention to take, is about connection: better if wi-fi,
during restore, as iPhone must download all apps from the app store;
what you do not get, until you sync it with your physical iTunes
library, are possible apps which have been removed from the app store
for some reason.
For the rest, no pain, no fear

yes it's helpful for me too! I have a podcast regarding amadeus, in
italian language it just explains how to select a portion of sound and
how to apply a reverse effect on it, and recording. but amadeus has
many many features that would be explored and demonstrated

Re: any games in the app store that are accessible?

2012-02-19 Thread elena brescacin
May i suggest a funny game?
Bop it, from electronic arts
or zany touch
they are funny coordination games
to play them, it is needed to turn voiceover off.
Bopit has an interactive demo tuttorial inside it, that helps you to learn
gestures and movement

Right!
audio-games based on trackpad, on multi touch
it would be awesome! But I suppose there are not many developers interested! I
find iDevices more comfortable to developers thinking about the design for
all, there are more input/output possibilities:
accelerometer, microphone, movement, vibration, tilting, blowing on the mic,
touch, double-touch, multi-touch and so on

for your information: soundtracker radio on apple vis

2012-02-09 Thread Elena Brescacin
hi,
I have been here joined since last Sunday but did not talk too much. I
like to work, not to talk! smiles
I just reviewed a music streaming service on applevis community
http://www.applevis.com/ios-app-directory/music/soundtracker-radio
As last.fm app for iPhone is not distributed in the italian store, I
just looked for alternatives and found this soundtracker radio
It's more restricted than last.fm, of course, but it's worth having a
little fun with it, in my opinion
the site www.soundtracker.fm is not so screen reader friendly, but the
app has become more friendly because I just sent an e-mail to the
developers and they provided labels in most buttons
unfortunately, the popular stations is not labelled, he already knows
he seems very considerate to our difficulties and he wants to
understand what it is all about voiceover and similar
bye for now

IMHO soundtracker.fm is fine if your 16 years old. Checked add the stations
I could find and did not recoginize a single song or artist. Guess that
makes me an old goat. I'm '60's '70's guy.

Re: Anyone Using Google Chrome with VO?

2012-02-07 Thread Elena Brescacin
I think it's a good browser, too
but I stopped using it when I found some third-party extensions that
were not vo-friendly
for example the ones to listen to last.fm radio, and I had a problem
also in the home banking service I am using
for other sites it's OK

2012/2/7, Larry Skutchan blindcoolt...@gmail.com:
Chrome works great with VO and is a very very nice browser. Once in a great
while, it is necessary to use Safari for some accessibility reason, but most
 of the time, Chrome rocks.

On Feb 7, 2012, at 1:39 AM, Teresa Cochran wrote:

 Hi, all,

Upon a cursory look at vO with Google chrome, I notice no major
accessibility booboos. Does anyone else use VO successfully with this app?
I'm finding that I don't really care to use a separate voicing app for one
particular web browser, because I have to turn off VO, and turn it back on
when switching windows, and also, the two text-to-speech chrome
extensions, Chromevox and MetalMouth, do not work in parts of the browser
 other than the page content.

 Thanks,
 Teresa
