Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread Jed Barton
Ya know when it happened to me, i forgot what happened, but for some
reason voiceover went totally stupid, and all of a sudden i heard the
phone ringing in my ear, and i knew what had happened, it was calling
911.
Now i actually work in public safety so we get these calls all the
time. The came on the phone and i said, sorry guys, accidental, and
they were very appreciative that i stayed on the phone.
Then my mom who was downstairs, called me and said you OK? I told her
everything was fine, and it was accidental. I'm glad it atleast
works.

So i found out the reason why you have to clear this, cause i called
apple accessibility to find out.
The idea is if you get transported to a hospital by ambulance, your
emergency contacts will know where you are if you can't communicate

You just have to remember to clear it.

Re: Thinking of Downgrading Back to iPhone 8 Because of Lack of Touch ID - Finding Face ID not as Efficient and Slower

2019-05-07 Thread Jed Barton
Hey there,
So, ehre's a trick, and believe me when i tell you, it has worked
every single time. I thought the same thing until i found a solution
that hasn't failed me yet.
When ou are gonna unlock your phone i know this may sound kind of
strange, but you think that if you put it right in front of your face
it will recognize it. The fact is, cause i had this problem, you're
actually too close. So here's the solution, put your arms out
reasonably straight with the phone in front of your face. I think
you'll be pleasantly surprised that it'll work.
Let me know if that helps you.

Cheers,

Jed

OK, I wonder if anyone else is having, or has had this problem.

Over the years, I've bought quite a few devices that use
lightning cables. Anything from my old IPhone 5, 5S, 6Plus, 6S,
a few Apple TV 4's, etc.

Point is, after about 2 or 3, if I'm lucky, months roughly, it
seems like the end of the insolation right where the lightning
connector is that goes into the device, that area seems to keep
getting cut/torn. Usually it's not so bad that the cable stops
working, but it's bad enough that it definitely has the potential
that at any moment, it could get worse. I have one cable now
which is almost 98% sebbered all the way through both the
insolation and the actual wire itself. It's pretty pathetic. It
seems like most all my cables eventually are getting to this
point, and I swear, I'm not misusing them. I'm just plugging
them in, and unplugging them as normal.

Apparently, I'm by far not the first person who's had this
issue. If you just Google online, you'll find lots of forums and
blogs, etc. of people who've had the same issue quite regularly.
So apparently, it must not be just me.

Is it just these things are really badly designed? I'm on hold
right now waiting for Apple to pick up to see if maybe they can
replace a few of these chords, but I'm not very hopeful. They
might, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm just wonderring if any of you guys have also found your
cables tearing, getting cut, or worse on a consistent basis right
at the tip of the cord like I am. If so, what are you all doing
to get around this, so you don't have to keep buying cord after
cord after cord every few months. This alone is starting to make
me reconsider iOS devices. At least, ones with lightning connecters.

Lightning's great, but the cords appear to be crap in my opinion
based soly on what I so far have observed. Again, that's stated
as an opinion, not a fact. Keep that in mind.

Chris.

After entering the information in the “From” and “To” fields, there

Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful entering date in this field

Everything from the last month is there, so that’s beautiful. Problem is: I

then restore them in one go. I know that dropbox allows us to undelete files

but what do I click to achieve it? I can navigate to the dropbox folder in

says deleted audio, or deleted video. But clicking that does not bring the file
back. If you know how to do this with VoiceOver, please let me know.

I have been a serious XM radio subscriber for years. Currently, I use the app
as it offers more for the price. For those who do not have anyone to assist
with labeling buttons, they are as follows from left to right on the iPhone app

I have also found that once the buttons are labeld, they don't get lost when
the app updates. Hope this helps.

I feel pretty stupid here, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious,
but I do not see a way to delete a book from the iPhone once it's been
downloaded and read with Bard mobile.

Thanks for any hint as to how to get rid of them. Be well.

Hey Ed, Thanks, that will be another option as I did see a bunch in there
that I barely use. For now I am keeping it completely disabled as I imagine
this is an issue that Apple will address in 7.0.1 I just spoke to a sighted
friend on an iPhone 5 and he said his battery life is awful, so at least it
is good to know it is not a voiceover specific problem so I imagine a fix
will come out faster.

 Hey all,

For the most part I really am loving IOS 7. The one thing that is a
concern is the battery life is horrible. I typically made it through almost
the entire day with not really needing to charge my phone. Yesterday, I
barely used it and I had to charge it twice. I am using an iPhone 4S on IOS
7, and know some of you have some fantastic info, and was hoping someone
might be able to compile a list of checks to use to get the best battery
life. I have turned that new motion option on as I read that saves some
battery life. I have closed a lot of the apps in the app switcher especially
all GPS apps. I saw someone mention turning off background refresh might
save battery life. What am I losing by turning that off, as I thought that
was one of the new features that iPhone was pushing, so by turning off I
would like to know what I am disabling. I assume it means apps will only
refresh when I open them, as I have noticed through out the day I would hear
Downcast refresh which I thought was odd, as I have it set to refresh every
8 hours and usually manually refresh it. I do have about 200 apps on my
phone so if they are constantly trying to refresh I could see that killing
my battery. I have my screen curtain turned on and screen brightness turned
down to 33%.

Also, if anyone got an iPhone 5S can you let us know howe the battery
life is? I plan to get one when the craze dies down, but want to find out if
people are having serious battery issues or any other problems.

 Thanks all

Hi everyone, I finally return to my mac after nine months of neglect,
primarily due to my PC breaking.

I am pleasantly surprised to find that I'm really enjoying the experience.
However, I cannot find an FTP solution, and since I work quite a bit with
FTP this is a bit of a blow. Apparently you can use terminal, but I can't
find a place to enter a password. I can find username and host but no
password field. I have selected ftp in the services list. Any help with
terminal for FTP would be very much appreciated. I tried filezilla, which
works brilliantly on the PC and is fully accessible on the PC, but sadly
this is fully inaccessible on the mac.

Thanks.

I use the free version of menuTab for Facebook. It's on the mac app store.

It meets my needs fine. You can navigate posts via headings. If you find
occasionally you can't vo-space on something, try mouse keys vo-shift-space.

Hi, Jed,

If you're using Mountain Lion, go to system preferences, and press the Users
and Groups button. VO past the toolbar and you'll find 'Users, groups and
login options list". Interact with this list and go to "login options". Stop
interacting and find the checkbox that says "use Voiceover in the login
window" and make sure it's checked. Then you can safely command-w out of
that dialog.

Jed,
Press command comma.
Find the tool bar by doing vo left and interact with it. Then VO right until
you hear viewing. VO space on that. Un interact with the tool bar and vo
right and the option for classic view is the first thing you hear.

While the Mac will recognize your headset, you will need to go in to your
sound prefs window and change to that headset.

Hey guysHey guys,

OK, wondering the best way to handle this. I have a usb headset that I use

When I plug it in, will the mac just automatically switch over to it?
What's the best way to go from the mac speakers to my headset quickly and

Both didn't work on my MacBook Air. But thanks a lot.

Danny's suggestion of routing mouse to VO while on the dropbox menu and
pressing option click on trackpad worked for me - it brought up the familiar
dropbox menu with 9 items, One of which was preferences. I was able to
navigate that dialog and switch my dropbox folder back to my user account on
the main HD.

the other way, routing mouse to VO and pressing VO Shift space for a regular
mouse click brought up a less useful dialog. It has a link to dropbox.com, a
choice to open the dropbox folder, and a list of recently changed files.
Then at the bottom of the dialog there is the word "settings", but it
appears to be just static text that doesn't open anything like settings.

That's quite correct. Even with 2.0.8 this is the case. I've written to
them, even opening a ticket and they haven't even had the common curticy to
get back to me.

TO login to SKYPE with facebook, logout of skype and then click on the link or
button to sign in using facebook. Once you are logged in via facebook, you can
then link it to your Skype account if you want.

I love my mac, and although, somewhat new, have taught myself an awful lot.
Do you know if there are a lot of blind people working for apple?

Hi there,

I could do it using Skype, but I would prefer being able to work outside the
house as well, for example, for one of our local blindness organizations.

Trying to break the Windows stranglehold on our local blind community, will
need qualifications. Generally, over here the blind community is
approximately 10 years behind the time. That needs rectifying as soon as
possible, and somebody has to do it, why not me?

Warm regards,

Hi,

Either tweet list Pro or Twitterrific are amazing. The one gripe I have with
tweet list is the push notifications aren't in realtime, and Twitterrifics
are.
A note to warn about Twitterrific, their push notifications are in beta, so
they're allowing groups of up to 1000 users per week.

Have both the iPhone FB app and the mobile site morphed yet again into
something unnecessarily problematic for those of us who use VoiceOver? I
know several here have said that with some patience, they are usable, but
you know what? I should not require any more patience and time to figure out
the latest changes than the average sighted user, and I am about ready to
deactivate my account. Much smaller companies with significantly fewer
resources can make their apps and sites easily accessible -- why not
Facebook? It is more principle than anything else at this point. I have gone
from using FB daily when I first joined, keeping up with far-flung family
and friends, to feeling as if it is a chore each time. I doubt that is the
user experience most companies are striving toward.

So one other general thing to check. If your PC is pulling stuff down via POP,
that removes messages from the server. That would mean that when your mac

reading mail, a minor problem

2013-03-05 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys
I'm sure some of you have been through this before. I can see when new mail
arrives. However, what i remember before, when you did vo left arrow it would
show you who it was from, then when you do vo right arrow it would tell you the
subject.
It's not doing that. It's going to the next message when you do vo right
arrow. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jed

good news with mail

2013-03-05 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,
I have some great news about my mail issues. It seems that the imap was
throwing things off a lot. What we ended up doing is to set it to pop, and now
everything is working awesome. Sorry guys if i came across really grumpy,
sincerely appreciate your patience.

Thanks,
Jed

More on this mail problem

2013-03-05 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,

I simply do not understand why I am the only person on this list having
issues with getting my email from gmail.
The real killer is, someone on here made a suggestion I change 1 thing the
1st day I had my mac, and I don't even know what it was.
It worked for a while, I have no idea, but it worked. This person indicated
they had trouble with imap.
Upon recommendation of apple, I deleted the account, and now we're back at
square 1.

I've been back and fourth so many times with this I don't know whether I'm
coming or going any more.
To recap everyone, I simply am not receiving mail from my gmail account. I
get hundreds of messages a day, but none of them are showing up on my mac.
I go to create an account on the mac, and go through all the standard stuff
user name, password, bla bla.
Yet, no mail, but I can send mail all day cause I type a message hit the
command to send, and I hear the swish.
Is anyone available to go through things, is there something I'm missing?
I can use adium to chat, surf the web, but it's almost like this mac is
being thrown in to orbit when I check for mail. All it says is get new
mail, and nothing else.
Yet I'll shut the mac down, fire up the PC, and all my mail is there. Any
thoughts guys?

Thanks,
Jed

Yes, you can. But if you are trying to check POP with only imap available or
vice versa, it won't work. Also, I believe that POP has to be secure POP.
Imap, maybe not, but in any case, go to that URL I gave you to unblock, then
check your mail again when it tells you to.

mail box menu there is an opsion to take the account online. Contact me on
skype and I will try to help you out. I find gmail to be a ppain in the
