Re: After shocks blue tooth headset.

2013-06-07 Thread Nicholas Parsons
HI Ricardo,

Have you actually used bluetooth headsets with VoiceOver like this successfully
or are you just talking in theory at the moment?

If this worked, it would be some improvement at least, but not a complete
solution. One of the reasons I want a bluetooth headset is so I can hear
VoiceOver while system sound for a presentation, movie, music or podcast can be
played out loud for everyone to hear without VoiceOver interrupting.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though whether they are theoretical or
practical.

Nic

Re: After shocks blue tooth headset.

2013-06-06 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello,

For those using BT headsets on their Macs, something that might help in this
situation is to go into Voiceover utility, under sound, and make sure Voiceover
output is set to default output. Sometimes, I've seen this setting set to the
bluetooth device for some reason. In theory at least, you shouldn't loose
speech if default output is set in the case of you losing connection with your
bluetooth headset.

I've asked this question elsewhere on this list but never seem to get an
answer. All my bluetooth headsets which work fine with VoiceOver on iOS have
problems on the Mac. Most noticeably, when the headphones turn off and then
on again, whether because of low battery or manually, VoiceOver is lost.
Also, sometimes when the computer first loads up VoiceOver cannot be heard.

For anyone thinking of buying the Aftershokz Bluez, I'd wait until you've
heard from someone who has actually used them on the Mac, and has turned them
off and on again, and turned the Mac on and off again, and not had any
problems. Because in my experience bluetooth headsets and VoiceOver on the
Mac do not get along well. If they do work fine on the Mac, then I'll be
 buying a pair A.S.A.P.

Hi guys
What are you always wanted is a little speaker, preferably blue tooth, that can
set up on your shoulder and speak out GPS information. I bought one that I was
hoping would do that, but unfortunately it turned out only to work when the
phone was acting for the phone call. Does anybody know about a device that
would do it when the phone is not active? I know what non-Bluetooth device
would do it, but I'm talking about a Bluetooth one.

I don't have specific models, but this might help. As you search for a speaker,
just make sure it supports A2DP, as that will let VO, music, sounds, and
everything work properly.

Re: After shocks blue tooth headset.

2013-06-04 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello,

A2DP. It stands for advanced audio distribution profile. In a nut shell, its
the protocol that allows stereo audio to be streamed via bluetooth. You can't
hear things like Voiceover or turn by turn spoken navigation without this. At
least, without also being on a phone call.

 Hi guys
What are you always wanted is a little speaker, preferably blue tooth, that
can set up on your shoulder and speak out GPS information. I bought one
that I was hoping would do that, but unfortunately it turned out only to
work when the phone was acting for the phone call. Does anybody know about
a device that would do it when the phone is not active? I know what
non-Bluetooth device would do it, but I'm talking about a Bluetooth one.
