Re: Braille Display Commands on Mac

2021-03-20 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
The command assignments are specific to the type of braille display connected, which is presumably why they won’t appear unless you have a working display.   I would suggest reviewing the table of commands (with the display connected, of course) and deciding whether to make changes. As to opening applications, you would typically use the braille display to simulate the relevant keystrokes (e.g., using the dock). Likewise, simulating Command-Q closes an application. My personal preference is to use the Qwerty keyboard for most input and to read the braille display as I wish. However, different users have different preferences. From: 'Matthew Dierckens' via MacVisionaries Date: Friday, 19 March 2021 at 13:59To: 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries Subject: Braille Display Commands on MacHi everyone. Hi Matthew,

Check in the VoiceOver Utility (VO+F8). Select Braille in the categories table,
then select the tab for Displays. Use the Tab key to move through the settings
and you will find commands there. I’m not sure how to use or set commands for a
display.

Re: Braille Display Commands

2018-11-30 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries

Jonathan,
No. I have wasted 2 days with this so after I run errands today, I
will start over with a fresh pairing of the Focus to the iPhone. I had
hoped to work in the iOS mail app by now.

What I would suggest is to go into the Braille commands in VO
settings on the iPhone and browse the list. One command that I think is
worth adding right away is the one that opens the VO settings directly.
I used space 1-3-6. The hard part is finding combinations that do not
conflict. You can also "replace" commands already assigned that you will
not use.

There is one I think Freedom Scientific made an error with. They
assigned the 'activate selected item' command to tap instead of double
tap. Picky but I changed that anyway.

Braille Display Commands

2018-11-29 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
With the Focus Blue 5th, I have assigned some braille commands on
both iPhone and iPad. All work fine with the exception of the "Activate
selected item" which I assigned space 3-6 as well as the nav mode
buttons. Works on the iPad, it did work on the iPhone but now when I
execute this command on folders, the folder tries to open but goes back
to the first item on the home screen. I can use the command to open apps
or do other things. Any ideas? I reset the commands and redid them, same
problem. Strange.

Subject: Braille display commands

Hi all,

I am writing this message using a Refreshabraille braille display, running the
latest version of iOS on an iPhone X.

First, the braille display commands are not as limited as they first appear. Go
to settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, braille, find the display, and
activate the More Info button. In addition to forget this device, there is now
a Braille Commands option. This option is excellent. It lists all possible
braille display commands, organised into categories. Opening a category reveals
the commands in it. Opening a command shows the command, if it exists, and the
option to change or add a braille display button combination.

Writing and reading in contracted braille works well now. I am not experiencing
any delays thus far.

That said, there is still a problem. When inserting text, speech keeps speaking
the word after the text I just wrote rather than the word I just wrote.

Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to figure out how to go through the
misspelled words selection to select a replacement word.

Over all, I am impressed with how the braille display is working, especially
for writing in contracted braille. That said, Apple has figured out how to edit
text in contracted braille. Again, I am quite impressed.

Kind regards,

Re: braille display commands for the mac

2016-01-28 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Hi,
this will depend on which display you are using as far as commands go.

To see a list, go to vo utility with vo f8. go down to braille. then I think
it’s under the layout tab, and it’s called key commands or something like that.
It brings up a table of the commands for your particular display.

Additionally, if you go to the apple site, you can find generic commands for
using braille on the mac there-just do a search for braille.

hth,
Caitlyn

Hello Brian,

With your Braille display connected to your Mac, open the VoiceOver utility
(VO-F8_ and go down to Braille. Select Braille Displays. You should find a
table showing all the commands provided for your particular display. You’ll
also see that you can assign your own commands.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: adding custom braille display commands

Neither is possible directly. However, you could probably manage them with
AppleScript; make the script to do what you want, then tie a command to that
script.

I was just looking at the custom commands I could add to my braille display on

One is a command to show the reader in Safari, and another was to go back a

Hi Mary Ann
I no longer Snow Leopard, so I hope what I am about to say helps. I found the
commands list under assigning commands in the VoiceOver Utility. I was going to
paste the list I found into this message, but it didn't work. I don't think the
commands changed much. I couldn't get the table to come up unless I had the
braille display connected.

I have a braille copy of the VoiceOver manual for Sniow Leopard. If you are in
the States so that I can send it to you easily and if you want it, please
contact me privately off list and I will send it to you. I have Mountain Lion
these days so I no longer need it.
