Depends on the PDF form.
Some PDF forms are editable, some must be printed out and filled in using a

Re: filling out pdf forms on mac

2016-08-04 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi brian,

I did a google search on this a couple of months ago and turned up a malarky
blog post where some one had used the text to speach feature of adobe for mac
to describe all the fields and then some tricky way to get to the first one and
thus fill out a form. It seemed ridiculous to me. Maybe it will take a law
sute to get adobe off it's can and producing accessible mac software. For now,
rest assured that your imagination is not playing tricks on you. The process
is very broken.

The recommended mac visionaries solution is pdf pen pro which has a price tag
attached. I've cheated and used my virtual machine for years because I have
one and can't really justify the expense of pdf pen.

Best,

filling out pdf forms on mac

2016-08-03 Thread Brian Moore
Hi all. So I remember reading late last year that the latest version of
acrobat reader dc for mac had proper support for tagged .pdf files. So
now I wanted to test this. made sure my mac was completely up to date
10.11.6 installed latest version of adobe reader dc
Opened a pdf file which I know is tagged properly. checked it with
acrobat reader on windows as well as looked at the actual tag structure
with acrobat pro.

however, adobe reader for mac told me it was an untagged document. Still
I told it to infer reading order and proceeded.

I can see no content in this file much less fill out the actual form.

Am I missing something here? I tried interacting with all kinds of
bits. I see a tool bar, and a few other elements but not the actual
document itself.

Has anyone actually gotten this to work?

if so, how did you actually get to the document area?

Thanks.
Brian.

 Hi,

If a pdf is formatted properly, then you interact with the pdf content

the various pages if it is a multi-page document. Interact one more time
on the specific page and, if a field is an Edit field, VO will announce
it as such and you’ll be able to the data. The difficulty arises with
improperly created editable forms. The Edit fields need to be properly
tagged and inserted as an Edit Field. If the creator of the form just
left blank space and expected the user to enter info there, then it will
not be usable from within VO. So, if no Edit filed is announced, you’re
 kind of out of luck.

Re: Filling out pdf forms

2014-12-23 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
I haven't followed this thread too closely because of the holidays etc.
However, did you get PDF Pen pro or some other program? Nic and I had some
correspondence about this when I can use it just fine, and he couldn't. He and
I both got things resolved, so I was wondering if we could figure out what the
problem is. I filled out the form 1040 last year with this program, and
recently filled out a recertification for para transit with it also. Of course,
I was using voice over all the time. The only trouble I had was with the check
boxes, and they are still working on that.

 Hi,

If a pdf is formatted properly, then you interact with the pdf content

the various pages if it is a multi-page document. Interact one more time
on the specific page and, if a field is an Edit field, VO will announce it
as such and you’ll be able to the data. The difficulty arises with
improperly created editable forms. The Edit fields need to be properly
tagged and inserted as an Edit Field. If the creator of the form just
left blank space and expected the user to enter info there, then it will
not be usable from within VO. So, if no Edit filed is announced, you’re

2014-12-23 Thread Eric Oyen
well,
how long ago did you pay for that software? if you can't use it because of
accessibility issues, you might be able to get your money back (although, if
you got it through the app store, it might take some effort). Otherwise, try
contacting the software vendor. they might be able to help.

Re: Filling out pdf forms

2014-12-23 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, after it was fixed, I am totally able to fill out the form on my own. The
issue Eric, is not with respect to the accessibility of the app, but with the
accessibility of the pdf forms, therefore, I’m not sure that an app return is
possible.

Re: Filling out pdf forms

2014-12-21 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If a pdf is formatted properly, then you interact with the pdf content area
once and you’ll be set in the level where you can quickly navigate the various
pages if it is a multi-page document. Interact one more time on the specific
page and, if a field is an Edit field, VO will announce it as such and you’ll
be able to the data. The difficulty arises with improperly created editable
forms. The Edit fields need to be properly tagged and inserted as an Edit
Field. If the creator of the form just left blank space and expected the user
to enter info there, then it will not be usable from within VO. So, if no Edit
filed is announced, you’re kind of out of luck.

Re: Filling out pdf forms

2014-12-21 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Dear Tim,

Thanks again for your valuable input. I rather feared it was the case. I'm
not sure I was wise to have spent the money on pdf pro as very few people will
have made sure they had constructed a proper pdf form.

 Hi,

If a pdf is formatted properly, then you interact with the pdf content area
once and you’ll be set in the level where you can quickly navigate the
various pages if it is a multi-page document. Interact one more time on the
specific page and, if a field is an Edit field, VO will announce it as such
and you’ll be able to the data. The difficulty arises with improperly
created editable forms. The Edit fields need to be properly tagged and
inserted as an Edit Field. If the creator of the form just left blank space
and expected the user to enter info there, then it will not be usable from
within VO. So, if no Edit filed is announced, you’re kind of out of luck.

1. You can download a trial version of PDFPen Pro for free.
2. The standard version of PDFPen can likely be used to fill PDF forms with
VoiceOver, but I have not tried it personally. The pro version is required to
create PDF forms.

I'll give the trial a shot, but even the non-pro app is $60. That's a whole lot
for the occasional form; too bad there isn't anything else out there. Thanks
for the reminder about the trial version.
