Sounds to me more like Facebook have simply stopped working on it, so that any
API change in the Messenger section will break it.

2015-06-06 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

After you've chatted once with the person, they'll just be in the regular
global Conversation table. To initiate though, you can look under your Window
menu in the Messages app and there will be shortcuts beside each messaging
service you have enabled. For example, mine has cmd-0 for iMessage and cmd-1
for FaceBook.

What was the secret? I have tried my user name, my email address, my user name

I did some research into this, and Facebook did in fact announce that XMPP has
been deprecated. However, the cut-off date given is April 30, 2015. We are now
well into June and Facebook Chat via XMPP appears to be working just fine at my
end, so it is difficult to say what the situation may be. Source:

2015-06-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You must use the proper FaceBook Jabber username. This is different than your
regular FaceBook login. this Jabber username usually does something with your
name and adds a number to it. So, for example, mine may turn out to
Tim.Kilburn.5 even though I login to FaceBook with an eMail address. If you’ve
linked your FaceBook account with the other sharing features on your Mac,
you’ll see that FaceBook Jabber info in your Contacts card in the Contacts app
right by the IM field. Twitter and other linked social media accounts are also
shown there. All set up and it works fine for me.

HTH.

Adding the info from Facebook and picking the jabber account worked for me in
the messages app on my i mac..
Seems like this is finicky, just like just about everything else!

Agreed now I unliked my Facebook account from my Skype account because figured
if I can't do anything on there why have them linked.

 <http://osxdaily.com> How to Use FaceBook Messenger on Mac OS X via Messages
App

 <http://osxdaily.com> Paul Horowitz

 <http://osxdaily.com>

 <http://osxdaily.com> Share Tweet + 1 Mail

 <http://osxdaily.com> Facebook Messenger is a popular means of communicating,
but the Mac doesn’t have a dedicated Facebook messaging app like the iPhone or
Android does… or does it!?! Indeed, you can use Facebook Messenger to message
friends from OS X, and in moments you can set up the Mac Messages app to
function as a Facebook Messenger client in OS X.

 <http://osxdaily.com> Using Facebook Messenger from the Mac is really quite
simple, but it’s entirely separate from configuring Facebook sharing from the
Mac, so if you have done one but not the other, you’d need to complete both to
have the full Facebook functions of sharing, posting, and messaging available
to you in OS X.

 <http://osxdaily.com> How to Add Facebook Messenger to Messages in OS X

 <http://osxdaily.com> This basically turns your Messages app into a full
fledged Mac Facebook Messenger client, you’ll be set up in just a few seconds
with these instructions:

1. <http://osxdaily.com> Open the Messages app on the Mac if you haven’t
done so yet

 <http://osxdaily.com>

2. <http://osxdaily.com> Pull down the “Messages” menu and choose “Add
Account…”

 <http://osxdaily.com>

3. <http://osxdaily.com> From the message account screen, choose “Other
messages account…” and click on “Continue”

 <http://osxdaily.com>

4. <http://osxdaily.com> Pull down the menu next to “Account Type” and
select ‘Jabber’ from the list
5. <http://osxdaily.com> In “Account Name” enter your Facebook account
user name as follows: yourusern...@chat.facebook.com (a Facebook username is
whatever your Facebook profile URL is, for example:
‘www.facebook.com/your_name_here’ the username would be “your_name_here” and
the account name would then be your_name_h...@chat.facebook.com)
6. <http://osxdaily.com> Enter your Facebook account password in the
password field, this is the same one you use to login to Facebook from the web
or the apps

 <http://osxdaily.com>

7. <http://osxdaily.com> Ignore all other settings and choose “Create” –
this will setup Facebook messaging client and in a moment you’ll see your
Facebook Friends list populate as a buddy list, complete with friend names and
friend profile pictures

 <http://osxdaily.com>

8. <http://osxdaily.com> Message anyone in the list as usual, the
conversations are going through Facebook Messenger

 <http://osxdaily.com>

 <http://osxdaily.com> If you’re on a Mac, the ability to have Facebook
Messenger conversations right in the Messages app of OS X is really quite nice,
the conversations will appear alongside other text messages and iMessages,
Google Chat, Yahoo Messenger, or AOL / AIM communications.

 <http://osxdaily.com> Once you have Facebook Messenger added to Messages, you
will be automatically logged into Facebook Messenger when the Messages app
opens. To log out of Facebook Messenger in Messages, simply pull down the
“Messages” menu item and choose “Log out of chat.facebook.com” – similarly, you
can log in that way as well.

 <http://osxdaily.com> You can access the Facebook Friends buddy list at any
time from the “Windows” menu item in Messages app, where you can also set your
status to be online or offline, or away.

 <http://osxdaily.com>

 <http://osxdaily.com> This certainly beats having a web browser window open to
Facebook.com on a Mac, and if you have set up Facebook posts and sharing in OS
X you now have much of the Facebook functionality right in OS X without having
to go to the website to talk to friends, share stuff, or post status updates.

 <http://osxdaily.com> What if

This is great..
OK, for my stupid question of the day, how do I figure out what my facebook
user name is? I know my log in credentials, so would it just be the same as
the user name or log in email? I have no idea what my profile name is!
Thanks, I am new to FB and all the ins and outs of using it!

Facebook needs a dedicated Messenger client for the Mac.

I shall try this solution when I am back at the office, but something tells me
it's not going to work.

Surprisingly Adium is still functioning on my computer somewhat.

Hi,

I believe that this can still be done from within the Internet Accounts of
System Preferences. Could be mistaken, but FaceBook is still an account type
when setting things up there, and my FaceBook account is still showing up as
available from within that pane. I have it disabled at the moment, but there’s
no indication that it won’t work if I was to enable it.

Using Facebook Messenger from the Mac is really quite simple, but it’s entirely
separate from configuring Facebook sharing from the Mac, so if you have done
one but not the other, you’d need to complete both to have the full Facebook
functions of sharing, posting, and messaging available to you in OS X.

What if you don’t have Messages for OS X? All modern Macs should, but if you’re
using an older version of Mac system software that has the iChat app instead,
don’t worry, you can also use Facebook chat in iChat too. The configuration and
setup process is a little bit different, but the protocol is the same as is the
ability to have a full conversation with your Facebook buddies. So, whatever
your version of OS X on whatever your Mac, you’ll be Facebooking. Good for you.
And no, if Facebook has been blocked on the network or hosts file, this will
not bypass it.
