Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-03 Thread Mary Otten
The one time I did somehow stumbled into the genres thing, I did get the
genres. But there were very few items under each. And they clearly don’t
scratch the surface of what is there, if Apple really has 100,000 stations.
They really need to redo this whole thing. Maybe give it its own separate tab,
since it is real radio, not just a bunch of curated playlist. And they need to
be inclusive of what they offer, so that you can actually find what you’re
looking for and don’t have to guess whether it’s not playing because Siri just
isn’t cooperating or because they really don’t have it.

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-02 Thread Mary Otten
I got a reply from Apple accessibility about the adjustable index, but it
didn’t make any sense. They said that indexes have an alphabet on the left-hand
side. Well, I know that. Except this one doesn’t seem too, or at least I can’t
find it. Then they said something confusing about an adjustable index, and said
I could make a screenshot. Why the heck would I want to make a screenshot?
Anyway, maybe I will end up calling them and seeing if somebody can log into my
phone and show me how to actually use this thing. The response was certainly
not useful, although I’m sure they meant well.

station I listen to most, and then just tune into the others the old-fashioned

If you know the call letters, you can use Siri and ask her to play .. for
example play KLTY would get you 94.9 from Dallas. Other places you can
ask for something like: play ESPN New York, and it will play 98.7 WEPN
 from there ..

If you have any of the apps for the sources, that might give you an idea
of how to ask for the stations. It is a little particular..they are quite
similar to how you would ask Alexa if you have an Echo device. You also
can add the source if you want it from a particular service, as some
stations are on both .. hope this helps ..

Hi Donna,
So far as I am aware, Tune in just has the one shortcut, which is play last
station. So if that’s the only station you want, you’re good. But if you like
other stations and would like shortcut, I don’t think you can do that in tune
in I looked recently and couldn’t find anything but that one shortcut. Has
something changed? Was I looking in the wrong place?

where we used to live, that I access on TuneIn. The only way I could get it to
play with Siri was to set up a shortcut for the TuneIn app.
Cheers,
Donna

Interesting, but when I want our international stations. There are tons of them

work. That’s why I was kind of interested in seeing if I could find those

listed. But I’m just not having any luck. The other stuff, stuff in the US, I
don’t care. I know the stations I want and they’re call letters. Either work or
they don’t.

Hi all,

I ran this by folks on the beta list, and received the following helpful
message. It doesn't address the mysterious broadcast tab, but I was able to
play a radio station about 500 miles from where I live. Pretty cool. Hope
it's useful to anyone interested in broadcast radio. Message follows.
Cheers,

If you know the call letters, you can use Siri and ask her to play .. for
example play KLTY would get you 94.9 from Dallas. Other places you can ask for
something like: play ESPN New York, and it will play 98.7 WEPN from there ..

If you have any of the apps for the sources, that might give you an idea of how
to ask for the stations. It is a little particular..they are quite similar to
how you would ask Alexa if you have an Echo device. You also can add the
source if you want it from a particular service, as some stations are on both
.. hope this helps ..

I am subscribed to apple music and I still can’t find it

Mind you I have a truck load of stuff under radio so I may well have just
missed it.

Hi Donna,
I can’t see it either, but then I’m not subscribed to Apple Music and not sure
if that would make any difference?

It possibly being locations specific could be why people in countries other
than the US aren’t seeing it. But it certainly isn’t location specific to my
little area here. None of the stations I saw were in Oregon, much less in
Eugene Oregon. There was even a BBC one. Just one. I think it might’ve been
world service, can’t remember.

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Mary,

I'm not subscribed. But your right, it makes no sense that you should have to
be. I just looked on the Apple support site, and they don't say that you have
to be subscribed to listen to local radio, only that you have to be subscribed
in order to create your own stations. Weird.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Donna,
Well, did you say that you were or were not subscribe to Apple Music? If you
aren’t, I guess that’s why you can’t see the broadcast radio stuff, but it sure
doesn’t make sense, since those are not part of Apple Music at all. They’re
supposed to be connected with Siri if anything. It’s that new deal they have
with I heart in tune in and radio.com. So I don’t get it.

Hi Mary,

I just tried what you described and still no. There is no heading in my music
app that says Broadcast radio.

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread Mary Otten
I found it to be the last heading in all those headings that are in the radio
tab. You can think you ran out of headings, because you actually have to be in
the list of things under a given heading before you can navigate to the next
hitting with the rotor. This is a long-standing bug. You should be able to just
move from heading to hitting without having to flick right and get into the
list that you don’t care about. But that problem is not new with iOS 13. You do
have to have the music app, but I don’t see why you would have to subscribe to
Apple Music in order to access the radio tab with the broadcast radio stuff. I
am subscribed, so I can’t test that out. It seems like you should just not have
access to all those Apple curated playlists that they like to call radio
stations.
By the way, I know there is at least one error in here. But the inability to
navigate by line means I am not going to go all the way back up where I heard
it and fix it. Sorry about that.

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread maurice.mines
Hello everyone, let me make certain I’m understanding something this
is the Bates music service? Because the message earlier made it sound
like these are live quote local radio stations” unless I’m missing
something that is simply not the case. These are Apple Music channels?
Hopefully somebody can direct me to where this supposedly is. But at
this point I don’t think I’ll be getting rid of my satellite radio
in the meantime soon. Any thoughts, any suggestions?

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You would need Apple Music to see it I believe. I haven't found it yet though
either. I'm guessing that it might not yet be available up here in the frozen
north of Canada.

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread John JD Denning
Well, I looked again and found it. It is not at the bottom of the screen. It is
right above the normal Apple Music what they call radio basically playlists. So
it’s above that not below it. I’ll go play with it now.

I also do not see a broadcast radio section under the radio tab of Apple Music.
I’m running 13.1.2.

Mary,

Where did you find Broadcast radio? I just tried to look for it, and I'm not
seeing it. Running 13.2.
Best,
Donna

Re: How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Mary,

I haven't tried this feature yet, but the way this works in the rest of the
music app is that you double tap, then slide your finger on the screen till you
hear VO speak the letter that you want. So, for example, if you're searching
for the artist Bob Marley, you would slide till you hear the letter B. then
you would see all artists whose name starts with that letter. Does it not work
the same way in the radio section?
Cheers,
Donna

How to use the adjustable index in the broadcast radio section of Apple Music on iOS 13

2019-10-01 Thread Mary Otten
If you have updated to iOS 13, you can go into the Music app, and you will find
that there is a radio tab. New in this tab is a section for broadcast radio.
Right after the heading that says broadcast radio, which is the last heading in
the whole tab, there is a “See all“ button. If you double tap that, voiceover
announces section index, adjustable. I cannot figure out anyway to adjust this
supposed index. And all you get in terms of radio stations is a very few. There
are 100,000 supposedly. So it’s pretty clear that you need to be able to move
through this index. Does anybody know how to accomplish that?
