Re: Kindle for Mac
Hi Lorie, Sorry, but I can only confirm what Andrew has already said. It seems there is no way for VoiceOver to interact with the text other than reading a screens worth of text at a time. Left and Right cursor keys will navigate by page, or you can use the buttons on screen, but the app seems to be much less accessible than on an iPhone or iPad. Even the Windows version is better than the Mac version. Ian > On 20 Jul 2024, at 22:30, Lorie McCloud wrote: > > yes thanks. that was very helpful. Re: Kindle for Mac
Hi Lorie, When I open the Kindle app, focus is on the Search field. I need to press Control + Option + Space before entering the search text. After entering the text, and pressing Enter, press VO + Right Cursor once and you should be on the Search Grid View Collection. Interact with the grid and you should be able to navigate the results. Alternatively, when you first open the app, repeatedly pressing Tab should move focus over buttons which will allow you to choose how your library is displayed. When you tab passed the buttons, focus should move to the list of books. Now you should be able to cursor up and down without needing to use the VoiceOver keys. If a book is not yet downloaded, press enter to download it. If the book is downloaded, then pressing Enter will open the book. Hope that gets you started. Kindle for Mac
I managed to download and sign into Kindle on my Mac. has anybody here done much with that? I was trying to find a book in my library that I thought I remembered purchasing. I couldn’t find it in my library so I looked it up on Amazon and it showed that I do own it. so I tried looking under the author’s name but nothing comes up. not even the other books I have by that author. I don’t know if the app is just dodgy as far as accessibility is concerned or if there’s something I don’t understand about using it. suggestions please. thanks. Re: Kindle on Mac
I used to use the Kindle plug-in for windows a few years back and it was pretty clunky then although it did work to some extent. I don’t bother with Kindle on the Mac. It can be OK on the iPhone, but you still can’t read with granularity like word by word on the iPhone Kindle app. Sent from my IPhone > On Jun 19, 2020, at 4:58 PM, Lorie McCloud wrote: > > I don't think the Kindle mac app is accessible. if it's just a pdf not from > Kindle and I were doing it I'd read it in iBooks. > >> On Jun 19, 2020, at 3:54 PM, Traci Duncan wrote: >> >> Hi all, I am struggling through with Kindle on Mac. Re: Kindle for Mac and iOS
Well Apple sure made it much more difficult to do what was so simple in iTunes. But I finally got all my audiobooks in the Books app. And after fighting with the sync process. got it done. The only thing I do not lie is the audiobooks now live on the internal drive instead of the external drive. Progress. :) From E.T.'s Keyboard... ancient.ali...@icloud.com Many believe that we have been visited in the past. What if it were true? Kindle for Mac and iOS
Just curious how Kindle stacks up against Apple Books on both Mac and iOS accessibility-wise. From E.T.'s Keyboard... ancient.ali...@icloud.com Many believe that we have been visited in the past. Re: Kindle for Mac
I don't think Kindle for Mac is accessible unless it's been improved lately and I don't know about it. Updated Kindle for Mac
Hi All, A new version of the Kindle software has just been released for the Mac. It looks as though it should work with VoiceOver, but none of my books are showing up at the moment. The book list is now recognised as a table by VoiceOver and there is a Text To Speech option in the Tools menu which I don’t remember being there before. Could someone else please take a look at the latest version and see if it is now possible to navigate through a list of books. Regards. Re: kindle for mac?
Yes, there is an app for the Mac. Now, go find your shocked face, because you're gonna need it... Yep, the app is fully inaccessible. It is made up of unknown elements across the board, though some preferences can be accessed, and of course the dropdown menus work. Re: kindle for mac? not accessible
Kindle is not known for accessibility, the new kindle 3 has some accessibility, but not everything is useable. Supposedly, amazon is launching a web based reader that will allow you to read books using a web browser, but, unfortunately, the mac, pc, and phone kindle apps are inaccessible, and I agree, there is no excuse for that.
