Re: Mail and trash

2010-05-24 Thread Sarah Alawami
Right click opens up a pop up menu or a context menu or in some cases opens up
a menu in a track for incertiing things.

If you right click and drag you will come up with a menu as well when you drop
the item.

a control click is something totall different..

Re: Safari Navigation shortcuts for use with searches [was Re: Mail and trash]

2010-05-24 Thread Larry Skutchan
One other option that also works well is to set google to open search result
links in a new window. When you finish with the window, you can use Command+,
to close that page and return to the results page with your cursor right on the
link you just used.

how to go bak to my google listing of results. This is actually really
exciting, breaking new ground as independently as I can.

Here are a few shortcuts for you to try working with Safari. First, to move
backwards or forwards a page, any of the following pairs of shortcut
combinations will work (pick the one you like):
 Command+Left Arrow = move back a page
 Command+Right Arrow = move forward a page
 or,
 Command+Left Bracket = move back a page
 Command+Right Bracket = move forward a page
 or,
Delete = move back a page
 Shift+Delete = move forward a page

There's another shortcut that lets you snap back to a Google search results
page, but it only works when you do the search with the Google search bar
shortcut combination of Command+Option+F. When I run a Google search in
Safari, I press Command+Option+F to go to the Google search bar, then I type
in my search terms and press Return to bring up the Google search results.

When I investigate specific links, I can either move back through previous
pages with Command+Left Bracket or Command+Left Arrow to return to my search
results page, or I can use the Command+Option+S Search Results Snapback
shortcut. Command+Option+S will route me back to the last Google search
results that I ran with Command+Option+F on the Google search bar. (You can
remember the F for Find and the S for Snapback. The shortcuts for
Forward, Back, and Search Results Snapback are listed in the History
menu on the Safari menu bar. Just use VO-M, press H, and arrow down to
 find them.

I usually keep my Safari bookmarks bar and toolbar hidden, but toggle them on
or off with Command-Shift-B and Command-Shift-Backslash when I need to
examine them. The Google Search bar is on the Safari toolbar, but the
Command+Option+F shortcut for doing the Google search will open the toolbar
to do the search, then close it up again as soon as the search results are
listed. That way, the toolbar and bookmarks bar locations stay out of the
way when I tab or navigate with my VO+arrow keys, or when I use item chooser
 menu.

HTH. Just use the forward and back key combinations if using the search
results snapback shortcut doesn't seem intuitive.

 Cheers,

 Esther

Re: Mail and trash

2010-05-23 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Carolyn,

There is no right click on a Mac. Having no Windows background, I don't even
understand what people mean by Right click. Do they mean Control-click
perhaps? I wish people would say what they really mean such as opening a
contextual menu or whatever.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Mail and trash

Hi Olivia:
Quick question:
Hope it's not too soon to bug you:).

I'm now doing some research on the Mac (yay!) and have googled some terms. I'm
clicking on articles to read them, and able to download what I need to, or
email it to myself. But having finished an article, I can't figure out how to
go bak to my google listing of results. This is actually really exciting,
breaking new ground as independently as I can.
Anyhow, thanks for your nice note and the offer. Again, I'll try not to bug
you too much.:)

Thanks

Safari Navigation shortcuts for use with searches [was Re: Mail and trash]

2010-05-22 Thread Esther

Hi Carolyn,

You wrote:

Quick question:

I'm now doing some research on the Mac (yay!) and have googled some terms.  I'm
clicking on articles to read them, and able to download what I need to, or
email it to myself.  But having finished an article, I can't figure out how to
go bak to my google listing of results.  This is actually really exciting,
breaking new ground as independently as I can.

Here are a few shortcuts for you to try working with Safari. First, to move
backwards or forwards a page, any of the following pairs of shortcut
combinations will work (pick the one you like):
Command+Left Arrow = move back a page
Command+Right Arrow = move forward a page
or,
Command+Left Bracket = move back a page
Command+Right Bracket = move forward a page
or,
Delete = move back a page
Shift+Delete = move forward a page

There's another shortcut that lets you snap back to a Google search results
page, but it only works when you do the search with the Google search bar
shortcut combination of Command+Option+F.  When I run a Google search in
Safari, I press Command+Option+F to go to the Google search bar, then I type in
my search terms and press Return to bring up the Google search results.

When I investigate specific links, I can either move back through previous pages with Command+Left Bracket or Command+Left Arrow to return to my search results page, or
I can use the Command+Option+S Search Results Snapback shortcut.  Command+Option+S will route me back to the last Google search results that I ran with
Command+Option+F on the Google search bar.  (You can remember the F for Find and the S for Snapback. The shortcuts for
Forward, Back, and Search Results Snapback are listed in the History menu on the Safari menu bar.  Just use VO-M, press
H, and arrow down to find them.

I usually keep my Safari bookmarks bar and toolbar hidden, but toggle them on
or off with Command-Shift-B and Command-Shift-Backslash when I need to examine
them.  The Google Search bar is on the Safari toolbar, but the Command+Option+F
shortcut for doing the Google search will open the toolbar to do the search,
then close it up again as soon as the search results are listed.   That way,
the toolbar and bookmarks bar locations stay out of the way when I tab or
navigate with my VO+arrow keys, or when I use item chooser menu.

HTH.  Just use the forward and back key combinations if using the search
results snapback shortcut doesn't seem intuitive.

Cheers,

Esther

Hello everyone

I have not been able to figure out if the behavior I'm seeing is correct. When
I go back in safari it does not place me on the link that I clicked except for
maybe 10% of the time. It seems as though it used to work a bit better. So is
safari able to return me to the link that I clicked when I hit the back button?
If so what might I have set wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Mail and trash

2010-05-18 Thread M BROWN
I have been experiencing similar problems lately. When I try to delete a
message from my inbox and send it to trash, I get a message that the task
cannot be performed because the file already exists. I have found that a copy
of the message has indeed been sent to the trash, but the message is also
retained in my inbox. However, this is not always the case, and sometimes the
send to trash command works perfectly. When I find myself in the situation that
the message will not delete from my inbox, I simply hold down the command key
and press the x key while on the message. At least this method prevents a build
up of unwanted mail in my inbox. Hope this helps.

Rebuild isn't doing much, and use this mailbox for is all dimmed.
Guess I may need to take this up with tech support. Thanks anyhow for

of the message has indeed been sent to the trash, but the message is also
retained in my inbox.

Re: Mail and trash

Hi Louie, Sarah, and Others

They removed the Command-K definition in Snow Leopard. There's a
whole thread about in in the Apple Discussion forums from people who
wanted to get it back. (Command-K would delete messages On all
Accounts, including your RSS and MobileMe accounts, as well as your
local mail.) You have to use Command-Shift-Delete as Sarah said and,
if you don't want the warning before deleting, hold down the Option key.

Cheers,

Hi Carolyn, not sure if you're using pop, or imap, but what you could try
is rebuilding the trash mailbox. Select it in your mailboxes table, go to
the mailboxes menu, and select rebuild. THis may possibly help.

 Hi:
I'm unable to delete emails. I get an alert that the ch...@q.com trash
mailbox can not accept messages. I tried creating a new mailbox called
trash. But, it seems I'm missing a step somewhere, and the mail's piling
up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate everyone's help.

Re: Mail and trash

2010-05-17 Thread Sarah Alawami
Oh I did not know about the option key.

Thanks.

 Hi Louie, Sarah, and Others

They removed the Command-K definition in Snow Leopard. There's a whole
thread about in in the Apple Discussion forums from people who wanted to get
it back. (Command-K would delete messages On all Accounts, including your
RSS and MobileMe accounts, as well as your local mail.) You have to use
Command-Shift-Delete as Sarah said and, if you don't want the warning before
deleting, hold down the Option key.

 Cheers,

 Esther
