Re: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

2018-12-13 Thread Adam Samec
Hello,

I am facing the same issue, I can hear no sound from screen reader, be it
JAWS, NVDA or Narrator. I have also tried enabling the spatial sound using
the "Windows Sonic for Headphones" option, but with no success.

However, if you can hear some sounds from the screen reader but just no
voice and you do have an N version of Windows, such as Windows 10 Home N, I
suggest trying a non-N version of Windows, such as Windows 10 Home. At
least in my case it helped.

Regarding the issue of hearing no sounds from the screen reader at all, I
finally solved it by replacing the VMware Fusion with Parallels Desktop.
You can get a free fourteen day trial version of Parallels Desktop here:
https://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/download/

Kind regards
Adam

Hi Jonathan,

No, I just need to put some time in to it rather than saying to myself, I can't
be stuffed looking in to it
It's for work and I'm kind of in the mind set of I can't be f'd putting time in
to doing something that isn't going to be appreciated

Call me a disgruntalled staff member of a rapidly falling university

Thanks anyway though.

Hi Simon,

The VMWare machine files should be located in your Documents > Virtual Machines

VmWareBundle, and it’s described as a VMWare bundle. If you move that file to a flash
drive, then copy it back to your new image, I think you’ll be OK.

Hi ET,

Well that's the thing,
Yes I should be able to copy it
However that would be possible if I could find the folder in which the vm files
are located on my mac book pro,

Currently I have not found the bloody thing so I can't therefore move it.

It's kind of p'ing me off, because it's not where I thought it should be.

Hi Simon,

The VMWare machine files should be located in your Documents > Virtual Machines
folder. The name of each machine is dot
VmWareBundle, and it’s described as a VMWare bundle. If you move that file to a
flash drive, then copy it back to your new image, I think you’ll be OK.

There are other problems i have and i can’t map keys to this thing.
I can’t when using linux in a virtual machine switch consoles.
THere is no way of edit and add this in vmware.
BUt this is not a blind related issue.

Hello,

Yes the volume is up and again
If I play Music or other audio as well as any sounds a screen readers make I
hear that already. Also, if I switch to a USB sound card, the screen reader
audio kicks in just fine.

I guess for now I'll stay with VirtualBox and just avoid updating Windows or
reapply an older snapshot as needed.

This one is a bit perplexing to me.

Hi,

I have checked the sound cards that the screen readers are configured for
and all of that is correct. So far I've not found any errors in logs.

I use virtual machines from both VMWare and VirtualBox daily on Windows but
wanted to add a Mac to my environment for some work I'm doing and hopefully
still have access to Windows on that machine.

If nothing else, I'll just stick to the USB sound card option. That does
work well.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but have you checked that the screen
readers are configured for the default Windows sound device? They should be,
but under the VM, it's still worth verifying just to be sure.

Do any relevant error messages appear in the Windows event logs?

I haven't tried a VM on the Mac, so I can't offer advice from experience.

I'm not sure if this is always required but by using a USB audio device, I

I should have to do this but so far at least the VMs are now usable.

Hi,

A new wrinkle has emerged here. I am curious if anyone else is
experiencing this.

I used an ISO from Windows 10 version 1809 to create my virtual
machine. Sound for the VM in general is working. However, Narrator text to
speech does not seem to work correctly.

I can play music or other audio from the VM and it plays fine. In
addition, when Narrator is running, I hear the sounds Narrator makes just not
the speech.

I haven't tried other TTS, such as Eloquence with JAWS yet and am also
following up with Narrator contacts.

RE: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

2018-11-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
HI, yeah I really do agree with this.

I’m actually having issues with my VM Fusion windows 10 machine at the moment

I need to have both platforms available to me at the same time and the VM has
worked best for that situation so far, however now I need to do a full reimage
of my 2018 mac book pro and I wanted to save the vm to a flash drive but can't
find the vm files.

This would be so much easier with a second machine

I work in tech support and have gotten some calls from users of our windows
software having issues with a virtual machine both on Fusion and Parallels.
I've pretty much come to the conclusion that if you want to run Windows, use a
separate PC, you will have far less problems.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but have you checked that the screen readers
are configured for the default Windows sound device? They should be, but under
the VM, it's still worth verifying just to be sure.

Do any relevant error messages appear in the Windows event logs?

I haven't tried a VM on the Mac, so I can't offer advice from experience.

fine without the USB sound card.

Have you checked your vm settings or config to make sure you have an audio
device installed to your vm for audio to be heard.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is always required but by using a USB audio device, I was
able to get screen reader audio to work on the VMs. This doesn't seem like I
should have to do this but so far at least the VMs are now usable.

Hi,

A new wrinkle has emerged here. I am curious if anyone else is experiencing
this.

I used an ISO from Windows 10 version 1809 to create my virtual machine.
Sound for the VM in general is working. However, Narrator text to speech does
not seem to work correctly.

I can play music or other audio from the VM and it plays fine. In addition,
when Narrator is running, I hear the sounds Narrator makes just not the speech.

I haven't tried other TTS, such as Eloquence with JAWS yet and am also
following up with Narrator contacts.

This solution fixed at least getting the program launched. I had to
going to privacy and then accessibility and indicate that I wanted to allow
VMware to control my computer. Then when I launched VMware fusion, I had to go
allow the extension.

I am creating my first virtual machine so we'll see how that goes.

I have had success with VirtualBox previously and still do as long as I don't
update to the 1809 release of Windows. There is an open ticket with Oracle for
audio issues with VirtualBox and that version of Windows.

2018-11-30 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I have checked this and to be clear, computer sounds, music and such plays just
fine without the USB sound card.

I am creating my first virtual machine so we'll see how that goes.

2018-11-29 Thread Pete De Vasto
Kelly,

Did you check under Narrator settings to make sure that the checkbox involving
lowering the volume of other apps isn’t checked? That may be why other app
sounds aren’t being heard.

Also, I’m still on 1803 but want to go up to 1809, but whenever I check for
updates on either of my two computers, they keep telling me Windows is
up-to-date. How did you get the 1809 ISO?

Re: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

2018-11-28 Thread kelly ford
Thank you for this information. Also, thank you to others who replied.

This solution fixed at least getting the program launched. I had to going to
privacy and then accessibility and indicate that I wanted to allow VMware to
control my computer. Then when I launched VMware fusion, I had to go allow the
extension.

I am creating my first virtual machine so we'll see how that goes.
Again thank you to everyone who replied here.

Does this generally work and if so any thoughts on what might be up?
I’ve used VirtualBox successfully previously on the same machine.

The machine is fully updated to the latest Mac OS.

Re: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

2018-11-28 Thread Pete De Vasto
Hi Kelly,

I’ve struggled with VMWare Fusion lots as well, but do have it going pretty
much all the time now. The one trick I’ve noticed you have to do is toggle back
and forth in and out of your machine’s screen while it’s starting up. I hope I
can explain this correctly, here goes:

When your machine starts, you’ll eventually hear VO say “suspend this guest
operating system”. At that point, press Command+control+f. You’ll probably hear
VO say something like space with applications followed by whatever is currently
running, like finder, Mail, Messages or whatever. Press Control+command+f
again, and you should hear VO say “Space with the name of your Windows machine
full-screen”. At that point, you know you are in the VMWare window. Press
Control+G to give keyboard focus to the VM machine. Oh yeah, and the keystroke
to start Narrator won’t work, because VO is picking up the Control+Windows
combination as its command. I normally do Windows+R, then type Narrator, and it
does come up. Then, to get out of Narrator, I have to alt-tab to the Narrator
Settings window, and when I press Alt+F4, Narrator does exit. If you can get to
the point where you can in fact install JAWS, it does work pretty nicely, by
the way. I started out with VMWare 10, and my USB devices, including my Focus
40 Blue, connected just fine. But then I tried upgrading to VMWare Version 11,
and for some reason I couldn't get any of my USB devices going, so I had to go
back to version 10.

I hope this isn’t confusing, and that maybe others can chime in with
clarifications or other thoughts. Good luck and I hope you can get it going.

Did you install the VM tools? You have to begin this process outside the
window, then completed inside of windows.
