Re: adium setting up accounts

2015-10-07 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
This is one reason why I recommended Trillion over Adium. I find Adium to
be quite problematic.

I think you're going to need your entire yahoo ID, but again, I cannot
promise you that'll work, regardless the version you get.

Hi,
At this point, Adium is pretty much dead. In fact, I didn’t put it back on here
after I reinstalled everything last week. It’s a good thing there are
alternatives. :)

Re: adium versions?

2015-10-04 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
If you're wanting to connect to Facebook, short answer is neither. Adium no
longer supports Facebook, and according to a friend of mine that has used it
for years, they no longer support Facebook through the Jabber protocol. If you
want a client for Facebook, my recommendation is Trillian. Others use Messages
with it, but others can chime in to help you set it up if you want to go that
route since I don't use Messages with Facebook.

Re: adium versions?

2015-10-04 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
You'll love! Trillion! It is literally the only instant messenger client,
short of the Messages app, which I use with IMessage that I will touch! I
used to be a really big fan of Adium. In some ways, I still am, but the
time it takes to set up all your events manually by hand... It's so ungodly
tedious that I finally just said to heck with it.

What I like so much about Trillion, as I told you a while back on Twitter
is, it pretty well just works right out of the box. Yeah, you'll have to
sign up for a free Trillion account to get it working at all, but that's no
big deal. I don't even think there's a captcha.

If there is, get with me off list, and I'll help you, if needed.

Now that you're on Yosemite finally, I really really think you guys will
like Trillion. It works fantastically with Yosemite.

Re: adium versions?

2015-10-04 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Not that hard at all. As Chris Gilland said, you'll need to create an account
with Trillian before you can set up your accounts to work with it, but that's
not hard since that's the first thing you see when you launch it, and no
there's no captchas at all. After that, you can just set up your accounts and
voila. You have an all in one easy to use IM client, and it also works
awesomely with El Capitan.

Just fyi, you can also use multiple accounts with just the messages app that

was already clean. These tools (as far as the mac is concerned) aren’t
preventative nor are they able to solve any serious issues. The moral of
the story is just don’t worry about it. If your mac starts running slowly
take it to somebody that knows what they’re doing, otherwise trust the
 system.

Unlike windows there’s no such thing as a “defragmenter” or “cleaner”
that just magically makes things run better. It’s also (in my experience)
not necessary to restart your mac very often because again, if a problem
exists there isn’t some magical fix to that problem. The mac is a system
that in general, doesn’t produce issues, but those that it does produce are
 more serious.

The built-in Messages app is actually pretty good. It's not just for iMessages;
it can also be used for Facebook chat via Jabba/XMPP, AOL, Google Talk, Yahoo,
etc etc.

What version of Adium are you using? And is there anything particular that you
need help with? Or are you just looking for a general overview of how to use
Adium?

So, how do I actually use it?
I was able to link it with my Facebook account easily, but I don't know how
 to use it.
So, please shed some light on this matter.

Not sure if this will help you use Adium with VO, but here's a link to the

Hi there!
You might need to do this!

1. go to facebook.com and go to your account!

one]
3. Facebook should give you some options and just after them will be a more
link select it!
4. Now after the options Facebook gives you [I did not like my suggestions]
there is a edit box where you can put your own name!
There is a see if name is available button after you put your choice, if it is
available you can have it!
If not try another or add a number to the end! [ it might help]
5. When your happy come out of Facebook and open Adium!
6. In Adium on your contacts window open vo+m and go to the file menu!
7. Scroll down to add new account sub menu and arrow right, go down to Jabber

8. In the new account window is where you'll find those tabs, the first one
should be selected just scroll past until you get to where you put your new

When you've entered it the next field is your Facebook password!
9. After filling those in go back to the options tab select and scroll to where

Re: Adium Enquiries

2011-10-31 Thread Red . Falcon
Hi Gavin!
I hope this will be of some help to you [It was for me]
Colin
Well It would help if I put in the text!
:]

To make this easier, you can set up events for Adium for specific sound sets.
This means that you can technically enable various different events for sound
sets, so if you like the iChat sounds, for example, you can switch to iChat
when creating another notification preset. Obviously, you are not required to
select different sounds, so if you want, you can simply leave that alone and
simply use it for an easy switch of spoken events.

To find the Events preferences, hit Command-Comma to go into Preferences,
then interact with the Toolbar. Next, move to the events button and hit
VO-Space to select it. In some cases in Adium, you are not thrown out of the
toolbar as you should be,so simply stop interacting and move right with the
VoiceOver keys to focus on the events table.

If you just want to use the Default notifications you can leave the pop up
alone which governs what notifications you are currently using. This allows
for a high degree of customisation, allowing you to include extras should you
wish to download them. It is also worth noting that it appears that you can
save as many configurations as you would like to save.

If you want to assign an event to a current notification, select the Events
table, then interact with it. Now, simply move down with either VO-Down or
down arrow on its own to move through the table, and when you see an
notification you would like to assign an event to, simply stop interacting
with the table, then VO-right until you reach the Add button and hit
VO-Space. To see what events are currently assigned to a notification, simply
move to the third column right next to the name of the notification. If you
are not interacting, VoiceOver will automatically read all the columns in a
row. In this case, if you want to expand a notification to remove one or more
of its events, you can either use VO-Backslash to expand it or simply use the
right arrow key which performs the same action. When expanding a
notification, simply move to the event you would like to edit or remove, stop
interacting if you are, and VO-right to either the Edit or Remove
buttons. Editing obviously lets you recreate the event as you see fit.

Adding events is also relatively simply. You simply hit the Add button
after selecting the notification you would like to add an event to, then
select the type of event such as Speak event. When selecting the different
pop up choices, the options will change to reflect your selection. In the
case of Speak event, options to select exactly what is spoken such as name
and time appear, including whether or not to use a custom speech rate and
pitch as well as voice. If you uncheck the custom checkboxes, it will obey
the options set under System Preferences in the Speech category.

Additionally, you may also switch off Cursor Tracking with VO-Shift-F3. In
this case, you obviously do not need these events in case you want to read
them as they come in at your own leisure. Switching off Cursor Tracking is
actually very handy, as the keyboard focus doesn't move the VoiceOver cursor.
This enables you to read what you have written using the arrow keys only, and
quickly read incoming information in any application as soon as it comes in
by simply leaving the VoiceOver cursor in the preferred area. This is handy
in Applications like Skype as well, particularly Skype 5.1.

When you interact with the HTML content area, which VoiceOver reports as
unknown, you are primarily always put at the top of the chat. You can use a
command like FN-Shift-VO-End to get to the bottom and FN-Shift--VO-Home to
get to the top, though primarily you may be able to ditch the Shift key in
favour of only using FN-VO home and end.

I hope this helps. I wanted to provide the information about the events so
that it might make it a bit easier and make it so that you have to move
 around less within Adium.

 Regards,
 Nic

Actually, voiceover always read the names for me, but if you get the newest

message window, it no longer says unknown, instead it says html content as it
should.

Re: Adium And Events

2011-08-09 Thread Earle
Thanks for the reply. I have everything figured out now. Growl was configured
properly. The problem was the way I had voices set up in Lion. I was using
Karren as my default system voice. I wanted to use Alex as my alert voice in
Adium but this wouldn't work. I had to make Alex my default voice and choose
him as my alert voice as well. I guess things aren't completely ironed out with
Adium and Lion. Oh well, it's a good thing I'm used to the Alex voice I guess.
I do like Karren for reading but I guess I could set an activity up for when
I'm doing any lengthy reading.

Now I still have Fiona, but switched back to Alex for VO.

to play a sound when someone signs in and that works fine. I just can't
get it to speak the name of the person signing in. I tried setting it to
speak event and that didn't work for me. After that I tried to have it
speak specific text and that didn't work either. I used the %n
substitution and I thought that would make it speak the name of the
person signing in. This didn't work though. Can anyone think of what I
 might be doing wrong?

I've just got it working again.
I had tried reinstalling it a couple of times a few days ago with no success,

But I gave it one more shot this morning after reading that you had no problems

So absolutely no idea what happened there, but at least it's working again.
Thanks for your help,

Has anyone noticed, that in the most recent build of Adium, I think I am on
the latest beta build, don't quote me, that in Lion, if you have events set
to speak, as I do, and you have it set to speak your contacts connecting and
disconnecting, if you're away from the system for a period of time, when you
come back, Adium will spit out all the events that occured while you were
gone, including people connecting/disconnecting all in one go? It won't run
them all together, thank god, but look, if you had 30 or 40 things happen
while you were gone, you're gonna then have to wait for those 30/40 things
to get done speaking, and forget trying to shut it up with the control key.

I thought perhaps this was just a glitch, and so didn't write in earlier
about it, but it's seeming to persist.

Has anyone else seen this, and found a work around, aside the obvious of
quit Adium when I go away, which I really! don't wanna do?

You know, it's strange, because in Skype, I have it set to tell me when

Now, YoruFukurou on the other hand? It always speaks tweets even when

Re: Adium! Will, you? shut? up?!

2011-07-24 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Chris. I've noticed this glitch when I have Samantha as my default voice
for Voice Over. If you don't want to switch to Alex, I find that when you press
control twice as Voice Over is speaking, Adium behaves as it should. But if you
don't want this problem, I'd suggest you use Alex until this glitch is cleared
up. HTH.

After you start CCC and have everything set up for your incremental backup You
would probably have to examine the table that contains everything to be backed

Re: adium and facebook chat problems or ichat?

2011-06-09 Thread Colin M
Hi William!
Have you done the set new user for jabber!
If not You'll need to set up a user name [if you haven't already] in your
facebook account!
Then in Adium set up a new user under Jabber!
When you go go into the fields put your new facebook user name in the box and
your facebook password!
And under [I think] the options tab you have to put chatfacebook.com then set
your new account!
And you should be good to go!
If you have already done this and you've got that problem I cannot help!

I think I haven't done it yet but I don't understand completely.

Where should I create the new user: on Facebook.com or adium?

You mean chat.facebook.com in stead off chatfacebook.com?
and, I see no options tab in the preferences of adium.
only: accounts, global, personal, view, messages, state, events, filetransfer
and advanced.
(it's translated from dutch so I hope you understand).
Thx alot for your response,

Re: Adium and an Ipod question

2011-05-22 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey. Thanks to the person that replied last night, I've got the Adium thing
about showing offline contacts fixed. Apparently it was turned off. Don't ask
me why it was turned off, I never touched the view settings when I installed
it. My next question for that is can you have it set to display email addresses
after each contact, for example, my MSN address which is
bigbigshawn@gmail.com? If not that's ok.
And finally, thanks for correcting me about the Ipod Nanno. I didn't realize
that it was the 6th gen that I had until you told me that the 6th gens have the
touch screen. And also, I meant to say, will it hurt the battery if I left it
plugged in for a long time after it's charged? Obviously I was either day
dreaming or half asleep when I wrote that question, lol. Thanks a lot, you've
all been great.

Re: Adium and an Ipod question

2011-05-22 Thread Mike Arrigo
With lithium ion batteries, they will not overcharge. When the charge is done,
the charge circuit turns off. It's not necessary to totally discharge these
batteries, actually they prefer to be recharged at around 40 percent or so. The
one time you may want to do this is to reset the battery gauge, but you should
only need to do that once every few months.

Re: Adium Weirdness

2011-05-08 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey everybody. I'm finally back after being sick all week and my Mac was doing
all these weird things. It turns out dumb ass, meaning me, set the year to 2012
rather than 2011 after my Mac Book's battery died. So anyway I fixed the date
and I'm back up.
Anyway to the topic at hand, Mitchel, there's a way to set Adium to read
messages or whatever you want it to read, thus eliminating the need to always
go into the HTML content of Adium. In the preferences, go to the events tab.
Tab to the events table and select the event you want too speak. Press VO+Right
arrow to get to the event description, for example, contact signs off. The item
will be collapsed so expand it with VO+\. Arrow down and you will hear
something like play a sound and so on. Press enter on the option to change.
You'll be in a menu to change the action. There's a pop up button that'll
either say play a sound or whatever so press space on it. You'll get several
options such as play a sound, display a growl notification and speak event so
go to speak event. Press the ok button when you're done. Like I said, this can
be done on pretty much every event so give it a shot.

2011-05-06 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi Mitch,
I suspect you're probably running with groups mode on in VO Utility. Adium has
a known long-standing bug with Groups on that does precisely this. Its HTML
handling is a bit strange in a number of ways, even in ordinary DOM mode.
Best,
Zack.

 never seen before.

When in a conversation with someone, if I interact with the Unknown

letting me read the first message but not scrole any further.

I know there are more messages there because I can select all and
paste into text editor something, bt I can't actually read them in the
 Adium app.

I am running Snow Leopard patched up to the latest release, and the
 latest version of Adium.

I have this exact same software combo on my work Macbook and on a mac
mini and it works fine there, so I don't understand what's different
 about this particular installation.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before, and have any suggestions what I
 can do to resolve it?

 Thanks,

Hey,

To get fb working in adium again do the following. Make sure you have a
created a facebook username on your fb profile and do the follow.

1. Go to the accounts and selece new account.
2. Select jaber as the connection type.
3. At the username edit box, type your fb username you created.
4. Now type your password in the next box.
5. In the server name box tyope chat.facebook.com and select ok. You should
now be able to see your fb contacts and they should be able to see your
messages.

Hey I use the Samnet Socializer at the University but when I use it, I don't
get an authorization request there. Only with Adium do I get an authorization

version, I hope they'll also have contacts signing in and out spoken as well as
typed messages spoken just like the Windows Screen Readers do.

Re: adium not working with facebook chat?

2011-03-11 Thread Thomas Byskov Dalgaard
Hello Kari!

Are you using the Facebook plugin for Adium?
If you are, then try to do the following:
1. Create a username on your Facebook profile.
2. Go to Adium, preferences, accounts and add account.
3. Select Jabber in the menu.
4. Type in the username you just created on Facebook and type:
@chat.facebook.com that would look like this:
usern...@chat.facebook.com
Enter your password as you are using to login on Facebook.
5. Go to the register acount button and type the following in the edit box
labled server:
chat.facebook.com
IMPORTANT: Hit enter. Don't move anywhere in the dialog box since it will
select a wrong server!
Delete your old facebook-account from Adium and you should be up and running.

HTH.

Re: Adium problem with requests

2010-12-01 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi!

What messages do you need sounds for? New messages? In that case, just add a
sound to the group chat event. That applies to IRC as well as regular group
chats when you invite multiple people into conversations. The same applies to
speaking text. I use this method constantly when using IRC, and I have had no
issues so far. You may consider that option.

Re: Adium has new window

2010-10-04 Thread James Malone
Hi. Once in Adium, hit VO f2 twice, and it will bring up a menu of windows.
Then just arow down, and press enter on the window you want. It could be a chat
message, or Growl could be sending in pop up notifications. If the window says
something about a system alert, then Growl is probably set to bounce and pop up
the notification window whenever an event has occured.
