Yes, hold control and option and rotate two fingers on the trackpad counter

Hello Stacey,

I replied to you on this subject a couple of weeks ago but here are the
instructions once again.

Disabling the preview pane.

Put Mail into classic view by opening Mail preferences (Cmd-Comma) and
selecting Viewing in the toolbar then checking the Use classic layout check box.
Close Mail preferences and navigate to the messages table.
Do not interact with the messages table but press VO-Down Arrow.
You should be on a horizontal splitter.
Make sure the Trackpad commander and Quick Nav are off.
Bring the mouse (VO-Cmd-F5).
Press down on the bottom edge of the trackpad with one finger, and use another
finger to stroke the trackpad toward you.
There should be nothing below the horizontal splitter the next time you press
VO-Down Arrow.

Sometimes it takes several attempts to get it right.

Re: Preview pane

2015-03-05 Thread Anne Robertson

>From now on, you should be able to read messages by pressing Return.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: preview pane?

2014-02-20 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Reggie,
You just hit enter on a message when you want to read it. After you read it,
you can then hit delete or use command w to close the message and then do with
it as you like.

As for getting rid of it, there are several ways.
I am using a script, but others are having problems with this same apple script.

One way to get rid of the preveiw pane is to find the horizontal splitter in
your messages table. Interact with the splitter, bring the mouse to it with vo
shift f5, then I think you have to drag your finger down on the track pad,
making sure the vo part of the track pad is turned off. You turn off the track
pad commander by doing vo and turning your fingers like a dial, like on the i
phone. vo will say track pad commander on or off, depending.

You will know if the pane is gone because then you will have to hit enter on a
message to read it, instead of using vo j.

hth.

Re: preview pane?

2014-02-19 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Reggie,

To read a message, press Return, and if you're using a Braille display,
interact and you'll be able to navigate normally.

To get rid of the preview pane, navigate to the horizontal splitter if you're
in classic view, bring the mouse (VO-Cmd-F5), with track pad commander off,
press down on the track pad with one finger, and stroke down the way with
another. That should get rid of it.

I should think that navigating to the vertical splitter to the right of the
messages table and swiping right with one finger should do the same job in
modern view but I haven't tried that as I always use classic view.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: preview pane?

2014-02-19 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Reggie,

The preview pane is where the body of the message is displayed. If you use VO-j
to jump to the body of the message, you're jumping to the preview pane.

The downside of displaying the preview pane for VO users is that when you
navigate down to a message, it opens automatically so you can never skip over a
message to read it later and have it show up as unread.

I have always got rid of the preview pane because I prefer to choose which
messages I want to read and when.

Cheers,

Anne

read the subject and some other text all over again before reading the message.
Also, the handy feature, where arrowing would decide in which direction focus
moved when deleting seems to no longer work either, so focus always moves up. I
suppose it's a trade-off...

 Hi,

 Try the following.

 1. Removing the Preview Pane in Classic layout:

 • Navigate to the Horizontal Splitter that is to the right of the Messages
 table.
 • Press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if needed). This will bring the mouse to the VO
cursor and announce where the mouse is and it should read "Horizontal
 Splitter".
 • Double-click on your Trackpad or alternatively, you can press near the
top of the Trackpad and drag to the bottom. Make sure in this case that
you actually make the Trackpad button depress so that the drag action will
 work.

 2. Removing the Preview Pane for non-Classic layout:

 • Navigate to the Vertical Splitter just to the right of the Messages
 Column Group.
 • Press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if necessary) to bring the mouse to the VO
cursor. It will announce Vertical Splitter if it did what it was supposed
 to do.
 • Double-click on the Trackpad or alternatively, put your finger near the
left hand side of the Trackpad, then drag to the far right and release.
As in the first case, make sure that you depress the Trackpad button so
that the dragging process will occur.

Note that in the Classic layout, you are dealing with a Horizontal
Splitter and in the non-Classic layout, you are dealing with a Vertical
Splitter. Each case requires a different dragging direction if you choose
 that option.

There are a couple of ways of determining if it worked. Firstly, you can
navigate around the Mail screen and if you don't hear anything about
"Message Content Area", life is good.

The second method is a little more complicated but tells you for sure. In
Classic layout, navigate to the Horizontal Splitter to the right of the
"New Mailbox Action" menu. You'll notice two Horizontal splitters, one
after the Messages Table and this one that I'm talking about. Once you've
located this Horizontal Splitter, Interact with it and press VO-down. Vo
will announce "Collapsed" which is what you want to hear. In non-Classic
layout, navigate to the Vertical Splitter just to the right of the
Messages Column Group and Interact with it. Press VO-right and VO will
announce "Collapsed" if the Preview pane is gone.

 HTH.

2012-08-14 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I'm not sure if I understand your question totally. In standard view, your
messages are in conversations and by default, a couple of lines of the messages
is displayed. Vo will read this summarized version of the message and in some
cases, this will be the entire message if the sender is not extremely wordy.
Otherwise, VO will normally cut off if it is a longer message.

Re: Preview Pane in Mac Mail (Mountain Lion)

2012-08-13 Thread Jeff Berwick
Okay, strange but true. We are close on this one. Using standard view in Mac
Mail Mountain Lion I have been able to get the vertical bar to collapse. This
doesn't, however, prevent the entire message from being read. Any other
thoughts?

Thx,
Jeff

Re: Preview Pane in Mac Mail (Mountain Lion)

2012-08-13 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Try the following.

1. Removing the Preview Pane in Classic layout:

• Navigate to the Horizontal Splitter that is to the right of the Messages
table.
• Press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if needed). This will bring the mouse to the VO
cursor and announce where the mouse is and it should read "Horizontal Splitter".
• Double-click on your Trackpad or alternatively, you can press near the top of
the Trackpad and drag to the bottom. Make sure in this case that you actually
make the Trackpad button depress so that the drag action will work.

2. Removing the Preview Pane for non-Classic layout:

• Navigate to the Vertical Splitter just to the right of the Messages Column
Group.
• Press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if necessary) to bring the mouse to the VO cursor.
It will announce Vertical Splitter if it did what it was supposed to do.
• Double-click on the Trackpad or alternatively, put your finger near the left
hand side of the Trackpad, then drag to the far right and release. As in the
first case, make sure that you depress the Trackpad button so that the dragging
process will occur.

Note that in the Classic layout, you are dealing with a Horizontal Splitter and
in the non-Classic layout, you are dealing with a Vertical Splitter. Each case
requires a different dragging direction if you choose that option.

There are a couple of ways of determining if it worked. Firstly, you can
navigate around the Mail screen and if you don't hear anything about "Message
Content Area", life is good.

The second method is a little more complicated but tells you for sure. In
Classic layout, navigate to the Horizontal Splitter to the right of the "New
Mailbox Action" menu. You'll notice two Horizontal splitters, one after the
Messages Table and this one that I'm talking about. Once you've located this
Horizontal Splitter, Interact with it and press VO-down. Vo will announce
"Collapsed" which is what you want to hear. In non-Classic layout, navigate to
the Vertical Splitter just to the right of the Messages Column Group and
Interact with it. Press VO-right and VO will announce "Collapsed" if the
Preview pane is gone.

HTH.

Re: preview pane

2010-11-10 Thread Esther

Hi Rafaela,

You need to be on the horizontal splitter, and you need to double click with
your VO cursor on the splitter.  I'll paste in part of one of my very old
archived list posts:

To remove the preview pane in the Mail application

1. Navigate (e.g. with VO-Right arrow) past the "Messages Table" to
where you hear "Horizontal Splitter".

2. Route your mouse cursor to your VoiceOver cursor with VO-Command-F5
3. Double-click on the splitter either using VO-Shift-Space or by
pressing your physical mouse key or trackpad key twice quickly. To
double click with VO-Shift-Space, hold down your Control, Option, and
Shift keys then tap the space bar twice quickly. You should also be
able to double-click by quickly pressing the "5" key twice on a
numeric keypad with Numpad Commander enabled (only in Leopard or Snow
Leopard, not Tiger).

Anne has mentioned that using VO-Shift-Space doesn't always work as a
substitute for clicking or double-clicking, while clicking with mouse
or trackpad (or by using the Numpad Commander option) will work. This
can true for some applications with transitioning accessibility, but
I've always found it to work in commonly used applications like mail.

The two clicks must be close together. If you click once, the system
expects that you will be issuing commands to move the splitter (e.g.
by interacting with it and using your arrow keys). The second click
tells it that you do not want to adjust it, but to drop it all the
way. Note that you will never be able to do this if such an action
hides an essential window that means you cannot effectively use the
app. I can move splitters with double-click to remove informational
windows in Automator; I can't remove any windows that are essential to
my using the application.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther

2010-11-10 Thread Teresa Cochran
