Re: webkit and audible

2010-06-30 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

Just set Webkit to the default in Safari Preferences so that every time you
open a link or whatever, it will use Webkit. You will have to use the Webkit
icon to open Webkit, though, as it is a separate application but uses Safari.
It just switches out the engine with a newer up-to-date engine when using it.

Hi,

I use Webkit by default now, actually. That's really the best idea, I think,
personally, as you get the latest fixes and improvements. You actually do see
performance improvements as well, so the fact that VoiceOver might seem a bit
snappier wouldn't be a surprise.

Re: webkit and audible

2010-06-30 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

I'd hope Apple approves of it, since it's their underlying engine for every
version of Safari. lol

The only difference is that, when you use the actual Webkit application, you
just have a newer engine than what Safari uses now. It will still look exactly
the same, but you will see performance improvements and bug fixes, and even new
features as the engine is updated. You get nightly builds every second day or
so, sometimes even every day.

http://webkit.org
You can read more about it there. Worth noting is also that it will look just
like Safari, because you're just loading a newer engine than What Safari
already uses officially. That means all your preferences, bookmarks and
everything else is kept. Just remember to use the Webkit icon instead, and a
good idea is to set it as the default browser in Safari preferences.

Nic

Hi,

Actually, you don't have to double-click the link, the link sometimes just
opens in the background with the Webkit page in the front. IF you read down the
Webkit page that it loads, though, you'll see a way to get your original
homepage instead.

Yep. According to the page that comes up when you click the What happened to
my home page link, open terminal and paste this in:

defaults write org.webkit.nightly.WebKit StartPageDisabled -bool YES

and press return.

Works like a charm.
