Should start up right out of the box when you push the power button. The only thing you'll need to do after it boots up is hit Apple-F5 to turn on voiceover. Hello Roberto, VoiceOver is localised into Italian, but you'll need to buy an Italian voice either from AssistiveWare or from Cepstral. Try both sites and see which voices sound best to you. Hi. You have to know one thing: If your Macbook hasn't ben started up before, you have to run a little first-time configuration. When you power up your mac for the first time, you'll hear a voice say: english, and nothing else. This is the language selection screen, and it's not accessible. You can't start voiceover before you have selected the language you want. If you press the arrow keys, you'll only hear some beeps. If you just press enter when you hear the voice say english, you have chosen the english language. You can always change the language later on, but there will still be a few messages and windows in the primary language you select on the first language screen. When you have selected your language, you can start voiceover and all things are accessible. However, I'll give you a few keystrokes you might need to run the start-guide: control option left arrow: Moves the voiceover cursor to the left control option right arrow: moves the voiceover cursor to the right control option spacebar: makes a mouse-click on the selected icon You can just use the tab key and your spacebar to confirm your selection most of the time through the guide, but there are some steps where you have to move the voiceover cursor and click on the item by pressing control option spacebar. Oh by the way, I nearly forgot to explain where the keys are placed: The key to the left of the spacebar is called the command key. the next key is your option key, then you have your control key, and the last key is the fn key. When you have completed this guide and you are in the Finder window, I highly recommend you to press control option command f8 to start the Voiceover quick start guide which will teach you the basic commands in Voiceover. Hi, Thanks for this explanation. I'm new to this list and plan to purchase a MacBook after Snow Leopard is released. I've begun reading the Voice Over documentation to become familiar with the Mac and what to expect. After using Microsoft products for over 20 years, I plan to take the same approach that I took when first entering the Microsoft world. That is, I'm giving myself a solid year to become comfortable with the Mac. I'm certain I'll have questions when I purchase, or even prior to purchasing the MacBook Pro system. Hi, I've only recently jumped ships to the mac and so far it has been e=very productive and educational. The voice over commands are a fair bit different from the windows screen readers but once you figure the best ways in and out of applications, it becomes second nature and alex as a voice is way more comfortable to the ears than any of the other windows based voices. I am also eagerly waiting for snow leopard to come out as there are a few features such as gesture based navigations and stuff which i'd like to play around with. I've baught the macbook pro 17 inch, and though you might think why i purchased such a big screen when i can't use it? Well, its perfect for presenting works from my 3d studio and watching flicks with my girlfriend.
