Adobe Flash Player.

2014-04-26 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hi.

Just installed Adobe Flash Player 13 and it was not hard at all. Now I can
listen to BBC programs without having to wish I had a Windows machine for that
purpose well, that is not strictly true, I love my stable I Mac.

Seriously, I have one question, was I meant to keep the file that I downloaded
to my download folder? I deleted it in the trash but flash player still works.

Kawal.

adobe flash player

2014-11-04 Thread Gabe Griffith
Hi all,

This may have been asked and I just missed it. However, I was doing something
in Safari this week and got a message that I needed to update adobe flash
player. When I downloaded the image file and tried to install it, the
installation froze at roughly 97% and would not go beyond that. The only way I
was able to get it to go away was to force my computer to reboot. I have a
macbook pro running maverick. If anyone has any thoughts or solutions for this
I would appreciate them.

Thank you,

Gabe

Re: adobe flash player?

2012-03-12 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Gerry.
I wasn't able to do it until yesterday. Before, when I tried to update Adobe
Flash, Vo would say that I was on top of an image. However, I discovered that,
to my surprise, my mouse wasn't following my Vo cursor. I changed it. I don't
know if that had anything to do with it or not, but the next that went to a web
site that wanted to update the flash, Vo said that I was on top of the button.
I think it updated, but I guess I'll find out if it continues to demand it.

Regards,
Gigi

Yes, you can delete the file. it's just an installer file, similar to the .exe
in Windows. You have already installed it. the installed application is in the

Updating Adobe Flash Player

2012-09-05 Thread Phil Halton
Hello Mary, I just went through this problem and here is what I did.

First, you need to download the latest version of Flash from the get.adobe.com
website.

just type "flash player" in the search field and follow the links to the flash
player download. The file I downloaded is named "Update_Flash_player_OSX.dwg"

Below is a email I sent myself to outline the update steps for future reference.

"For future reference, this explains how to get the normally inaccessible FP
installer to be accessible with VO.

If you just press Command-O on the .DWG file, and then again on the enclosed
.app file, you'll get an inaccessible version of the FP installer window.
Actually, I'm told that using the Tab and spacebar keys instead of VO commands,
you'll be able to navigate the window, but I'm not sure.

Instead, follow these steps to get past the inaccessible installer window and
install the update using VO.

1) Command-O the downloaded installer package.

2) VO shift M on the "install Adobe Flash Player.app" file and select "show
package contents" from the context menu.

3) open the "Resources" folder and find the "Adobe Flash Player.pkg" file.

4) command-O on that file and follow the accessible prompts using VO commands.

That's it! Any problems, give a shout.

updating Adobe Flash Player

2015-05-17 Thread Jenine Stanley
So I keep getting a notice to update Adobe Flash Player and the video I’m
trying to view says I need to update it.

All I get is a text box saying “Adobe Update Manager” and then I can tab or
VO-right arrow to something just labeled Image that I can’t interact with.

I’m sure we’ve covered this before but how do you update this player? I even
looked for it in applications and didn’t find it.

Thanks.

Uninstalling Adobe Flash Player

2019-11-02 Thread Craig Werner
Greetings, everyone.

I am attempting to uninstall Adobe Flash Player on a MacBook Air
running os 10.14.6. I open the Utilities folder under Applications
and then open the Adobe Flash Player Uninstall Manager; but when I try
to install the necessary helper file, VoiceOver goes busy, and I am
unable to complete the uninstall process. I could download Clean My
Mac and uninstall the software via that tool, but I'd rather not do
so.

Thank you for all help.

Craig

How to uninstall Adobe Flash Player from your Mac
Jan 12, 2021

It's 2021, and Adobe is no longer supporting the Flash Player, so it's about
time you uninstalled it from your Mac. Here's how to get rid of the relic from
an older Internet browsing era.

Flash was a major element of early web browsing, used to power various
animations, forms, and other interactive elements on a website for a user. It
was embraced as it offered more options to web developers and media creators
than HTML, animated GIFs, and other basic technologies of the time.

However, as browsers improved, and started to sue open standards like HTML5,
WebGL, and WebAssembly among others, Flash fell by the wayside as the dominant
way to provide interactivity. The increased use of the Flash player installer
for malware purposes
<https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/01/24/the-top-malware-threat-for-macos-infects-one-in-10-users>
 also probably hastened its demise.

Adobe announced in 2017
<https://appleinsider.com/articles/17/07/25/flash-is-dead-adobe-announces-end-of-life-plans-will-stop-distribution-in-2020>
it would cease development and distribution of Flash Player by the end of
2020, and encourage the adoption of other open formats for content that uses
Flash. At the time, Adobe cited a collaboration with Apple, Facebook, Google,
Microsoft, and Mozilla as being the impetus behind the decision to end-of-life
the technology.

Since that announcement, Adobe continued to support Flash with security patches
and other updates, setting its actual EOL date to be December 31, 2020. From
January 1, 2021, Adobe would cease supporting Flash Player itself, followed by
setting the software to block Flash content from running at all from January
12.

To end users, this will largely mean Adobe doesn't intend to issue Flash Player
updates or security patches anymore. Since Flash can potentially be a security
risk, especially with no further updates on the horizon, Adobe is actively
advising <https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html>users to
uninstall the Flash Player from their computers.

Adobe has even taken the step of removing download pages for Flash Player from
its website, to prevent anyone curious from being tempted to install it for
themselves in its last days of life.

Major browser vendors are also disabling Flash Player from running from the EOL
date. For Mac browsers, Safari disabled support
<https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/01/23/adobe-flash-disabled-in-latest-safari-technology-preview>
for Adobe Flash in early 2020, after previously requiring users to explicitly
enable it, while Firefox
<https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/12/15/new-firefox-840-update-adds-native-apple-silicon-support>
version 84.0 is the last with support for Flash, and the same removal of
support is on the way for Chrome <https://www.chromium.org/flash-roadmap> and
Microsoft Edge
<https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2020/09/04/update-adobe-flash-end-support/>.

For iPhone <https://appleinsider.com/inside/iphone> and iPad
<https://appleinsider.com/inside/ipad> users, Flash hasn't ever been a problem,
as iOS and iPadOS devices never supported the technology.

Flash isn't being completely killed off, however, as Adobe has offered support
avenues for enterprise customers
<https://blog.adobe.com/en/fpost/2020/update-for-enterprise-adobe-flash-player.html>
needing Flash Player for internal business systems. For the web at large,
however, Flash is basically dead.

While web browsers are removing support and it will be seemingly inert, there's
still some work you have to do to get rid of the last remnants of it from your
Mac. The Flash Player is a separate application that needs to be uninstalled,
before you can seriously consider your Mac Flash-free.

The Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller running in macOS.
First, you have to download the appropriate uninstaller for your version of
macOS <https://appleinsider.com/inside/macos> or Mac OS X. There are three
general versions available, covering Mac OS X 10.1 to 10.3
<https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flash/ts/uninstall_flash_player_osx_10.2.dmg>,
 OS X 10.4 and 10.5

and OS X 10.6 and later
<https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg>
including macOS, so make sure to download the appropriate version for your
Mac's operating system.

Re: adobe flash player

2021-07-09 Thread Pete De Vasto
For me, the .dmg file went into my Downloads folder. It’s really tricky to run,
because VO doesn’t do a good job reading the buttons you need, just calling
them images. What I resorted to doing, once I realized the app was open and
running, was to navigate by the keyboard, and I got to first the uninstall
button and pressed RETURN, then on the next screen I tabbed to each browser’s
button, and then on the final screen all I saw was an image, and I just assumed
that the uninstall was done so I closed the app. I’m short on time right now,
but perhaps someone else here can document this further, but I’m glad, I hope,
that the app is gone now from my system. Oh, I’m running Catalina BTW.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with this.
I stopped using flash player long ago, and never installed it on either of my
two current max.
Since it is no longer supported or used by websites, and Safari and other
modern browsers have it disabled, you could just leave it where it is and not
worry about it.

That's all fine and dandy, but after a while she'll get nagged to update the
flash player, which you can't as they've stopped supporting it. What I did was
Googled how to uninstall the flash player and they tell you to run the
uninstaller. So all she has to do is on their website, find the uninstaller and
run it. For this, tabbing around is the best way of navigation so just find the
uninstall button and press the spacebar by itself.

Hi,

Adobe is no longer doing anything with Flash either, so, there should be no
update requests coming from Adobe anymore. I agree with Brad, in that if you
are having problems with the uninstaller in whatever form has been suggested,
you should simply be able to leave it on your machine, and as you update to Big
Sur or Monterey, it will likely be removed anyway as incompatible software.

I wouldn’t worry about them then. If you can’t find them in the location that

Adobe Flash player and Mac

2016-06-26 Thread Jenine Stanley
All,

I
m trying to complete an on-line course that says I must have Adobe Flash player
installed and working. I’m using an iMac 2014 running El Cap. I can’t get past
this point in the course without being able to use Flash.

Other parts of the course are totally inaccessible but this flash thing is the
last straw. So, can I indeed install flash on the Mac, and if I can, will it
work with VO?

I’m beyond frustrated.

Adobe Flash Player Not Installing

2014-12-15 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi all. I'm posting this on two different lists to get a little more feedback
from people. This morning I went on a site to watch TV, time4tv.com
<http://time4tv.com/> to be exact, and it's saying that I need to update my
Adobe Flash Player. Ok, no problem, I download the dmg for the update, opened
the dmg and copied the app to my apps folder, but when I launch it, I just get
an empty html thing where it's supposed to install. I had a sighted friend look
at the screen and she could only see a box and no indication that Flash Player
was installing. Has other people had problems installing the Flash Player? I do
have another question that's off topic so *PLEASE* email me off list. To all
gamers that have a little vision and own an Xbox 360 or PS3, preferably Xbox,
have any of you found any websites where I could watch live TV from your
console? I'm asking this because most of the time I like watching live TV
streams on my TV and not on the computer. Thanks.

Re: updating Adobe Flash Player

2015-05-17 Thread jeff `greene
Hi Jenine, the way i do it is goto system prefs, flashplayer, click on
the update tab and hit the update now (or maybe it says check for
updates). After that its pretty much automatic. In fact, adobe usually
sets flash to auto update in which case you don't have to do anything.

Re: updating Adobe Flash Player

2015-05-17 Thread Jamie Pauls
Also, keep in mind that tab works to move you through that Adobe update dialog
whereas VO with the arrow keys does not. This is one time when conventional
navigation methods work better than using the VO navigation keys.

Take care and have a great day.

There will be a Flash Player pane in System Preferences if Flash is installed

Re: Uninstalling Adobe Flash Player

2019-11-03 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Try activating window chooser menu and check whether there is a window asking
you to enter your computer password to proceed. That has sometimes happened to
me in other situations. I don’t seem to be able to proceed because I need to
enter my computer password but Voiceover doesn’t report this. Have a go in
case this is true for you.

Re: Uninstalling Adobe Flash Player

2019-11-03 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Actually, this inaccessibility is the result of Adobe's lack of commitment to
this sort of thing. Adobe has improved accessibility on quite a number of
fronts, but still are lagging behind with many of their interfaces. For
example, the Creative Cloud app, which is relatively new still does not even
come close to being accessible.

Hello, Tim.

In reporting the problem to Apple Accessibility, I realize the problem
is more Adobe's than Apple's, but in case Apple can bring pressure on
Adobe, I thought it was worth voicing the concern.

Unable to install Adobe Flash Player

2012-11-18 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi all,

Whenever I try to install the latest update of Flash Player, I get an
error stating that the install failed.
I checked in the console and got the following error :"Installer:
CoreAnimation: warning, deleted thread with uncommitted
CATransaction; set CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 in environment to log
backtraces."

I don't have a clue about what this means; I can barely make out that
it is in English. :)
So, any suggestions, please?

Hello,
You can get Flash Player for Mac by typing in get.adobe.com/flashplayer in
Safari.
While it can be installed, VoiceOver can’t interact with Flash content sadly.
Hope this helps,

Re: Adobe Flash player and Mac

2016-06-26 Thread Arnold Schmidt
If I install it, will it generally play the content? If you mean that
VoiceOver won't interact with it, I hope you mean that it is as it is in
windows, when using a screen reader, in that there are a lot of buttons and
controls that can't be accessed, but the material will play, most of the
time. Thanks for any information.

Re: Adobe Flash player and Mac

2016-06-26 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hello,
Yes, Flash content will play. By Interact, I mean that VoiceOver will not see
the buttons and stuff within Flash content like Windows screen readers do
because the accessibility information is not presented to Mac like it is on
Windows. It’s Adobe’s fault. However, lots of things are moving to HTML 5 now,
so hopefully, before too much longer, Flash won’t really be an issue.
Hope this helps,

Well, sadly, this won’t help me as nothing will move, play or otherwise happen
on this particular web page. I may try it on Chrome and see what happens.

As far as I know, yes, you can install flash on your mac. However, it’s not

Hi,

I thought flashplayer file is pkg file which you have to run, not an app you

Re: Adobe Flash Player Not Installing

2014-12-15 Thread David Griffith
What happens in my case was that it was an installer.app file. So yes
you have to run the installer.

However there are two windows to the installer.
There is a window with an html element with which you have to interact
to read, and there is also another second monitoring window. If the
installer finds any problems like Safari being open and needing to close
this will be flagged up in the monitoring window where there will be
buttons like retry. In order to access this second window you need to
use window chooser with VO F2

twice. In general I found that throughout the installation process I had
to hit shift vo space bar on each button to execute them with a virtual
mouse click.

,as pressing VO space bar or enter or spcace did not work in my case.

Re: Adobe Flash Player Not Installing

2014-12-15 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Hmmm, for me that window just opened and was there but maybe it varies from
time to time. Also when I did this yesterday to get the buttons to work I had
to use vo-shift-space instead of just vo-space so if you seem to be stuck with
it saying you have to close safari when it's already closed, try that. I never
bother to move the installer app into the Applications folder but I don't think
it matters.

Frustrations with updating Adobe Flash player

2014-07-05 Thread Christine Grassman
I am receiving an update notification regarding adobe Flash player, but nothing
I do is starting the update. I have tried interacting and hitting vo shift
space or enter on download; I have tried interacting with where it says image
browser, but I am consistently getting an error noise.
I tried simply going to the applications folder and clicking there, and while
it seems to open, I am not receiving any indication that it is installing,
progressing, or finished. When I interact with HTML, it says empty HTML.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Frustrations with updating Adobe Flash player

2014-07-05 Thread Daniel McGee
I wouldn't worry about it. In any case, I would advise you to download the
latest flash player from adobe's main site. Just in case, this update that you
try to install puts something bad on your system.
I'm not trying to frighten you here but I'd advise you to always get something
from the original source i.e. website.

Or if you have Google Crome just use that. Flash is always up to date with that
browser and you don't have to do nothing to install it.

I alternate between Safari and Crome all the time.

Re: Frustrations with updating Adobe Flash player

2014-07-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
HI,

Flash installers react better when you just use the tab and space keys, no VO
keys. So, use the tab key to move between elements and use the spacebar to
activate the button. VO should announce which element has focus as it lands on
it. This dialog is safe, as you've likely set Flash in your System Preferences
to automatically notify you and attempt the installation of updates.

I got it to the point where it asked if I wanted to open, and I did, but I keep

downloads folders and deleted the .dmg files, thinking I would redownload, but
my finder and desktop are still saying "install adobe flash player, selected

Re: Frustrations with updating Adobe Flash player

2014-07-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Is it saying that it can't be opened because it's from an unidentified
developer, or that it can't run the installer because you need to quit some
running Flash app. If it's the former, when you go to open the Install Flash
app, use VO-shift-m to bring up the Contextual menu and choose Open from there.
If the latter, then you'll need to go into the Activity Monitor within your
Utilities folder, and locate the "FlashBridge-Cross-Platform" activity. Select
it and quit the process in order for the installer to continue.

updating adobe flash player on the Mac

2015-03-24 Thread Juliette Swiler
Hello,
I am stumped on this one. Can anybody tell me what is the best way to update
flash player for the Mac using VoiceOver? Every time I try to run the
installer, it just keeps focusing on the installer helper. If I click on this,
it says this item was removed. Does this mean the installation is completed
without VoiceOver giving me this message? I don’t think it is, because when I
try to play content, nothing happens. If I press command q to quit, it says
quit host, and brings up Safari with the message that Adobe Flash player can
not be installed. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Re: updating adobe flash player on the Mac

2015-03-24 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You need to Interact with the Helper area. It will tell you what’s going on in
there. There’ll be a “Finish” button if all went well, otherwise, there could
be error messages related to the need to quit any Flash kinds of software.
When clicking buttons in this area, use VO-shift-space for the simulated
mouse-click. You may also need to use VO-cmd-f5 to ensure that the mouse is
focused on the button.

Re: updating adobe flash player on the Mac

2015-03-24 Thread Phil Halton
They way I do it is as follows:
download the latest flash player for mac by going to,
www.get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Follow the steps there to download the latest flash player .dmg file.
Once downloaded, close all programs and then open the .dmg and run the
installer app.
That’s it. The systems preferences adobe update installer is inaccessible and
is only good for notifying that a new flash player is available. If you have
system prefs set to auto update flash, then when that update flash dialog pops
up, simply cancel out of it and follow the manual steps I outlined above.

I would simply add that on occasions I find that I have to use virtual
mouse click, that is shift VO space on buttons for the install to
proceed rather than VO space. Also pressing the space-bar by itself or
the enter key sometimes works.

Re: updating adobe flash player on the Mac

2015-03-24 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Two things to note here from my prospective. If your patient, and you have
Flash set to update itself, it will actually do so. The problem is that it
actually takes about 30 days to do so which may cause you grief if your browser
is blocking the current Flash plugin. You can also use System Prefs to take
you directly to the update page by going into the Flash System Pref, selecting
the Advanced pane, interacting with the Scroll area, then pressing the “Check
Now” button. If an update is available and you choose the “Update” button, you
will be taken directly to the proper Adobe page to begin the update process.

Just another note. I had a problem yesterday updating Adobe Flash Player . No
matter what I did the download kept freezing at 25 per cent . After beating my
head against the wall for a couple of days , I tried temporarily disabling my

Just wanted to add my two cents in.
