open source licensing of maemo 5 example code MIT vs GPL
hi, I am interested in picking up some of the examples from the maemoexamples collection provided by nokia. ( https://garage.maemo.org/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/trunk/?root=maemoexamples) When I went looking, I find many are licensed under a permissive MIT license. this is great and open source friendly, but my application is written under the GPL. I am not a licensing expert, so hopefully one of you guys will be able to help. is it possible to use and embed pieces of these examples into liqbase or would they need recreating from scratch? gary example license: https://garage.maemo.org/plugins/scmsvn/viewcvs.php/trunk/example_desktop_widget/COPYING?revision=259root=maemoexamplesview=markup ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers

I'm not an expert, so I'd wait for another opinion, but take a look at this: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/#Expat I think it's the same license, and they say they're compatible. 2009/8/29 gary liquid liq...@gmail.com: hi, I am interested in picking up some of the examples from the maemoexamples collection provided by nokia. Re: open source licensing of maemo 5 example code MIT vs GPL
I believe MIT and GPL are compatible: See http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/index_html#X11License This license is sometimes called the /MIT license/, but that term is misleading, since MIT has used many licenses for software Simón Pena wrote: I'm not an expert, so I'd wait for another opinion, but take a look at this: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/#Expat I think it's the same license, and they say they're compatible. 2009/8/29 gary liquid liq...@gmail.com: hi, I am interested in picking up some of the examples from the maemoexamples collection provided by nokia. But people who use garage for development probably don't have access to any other system for a bug tracker. Maybe provide better bug tracker should be on the wishlist for garage? Or, maybe there should be a garage section in the Maemo bug tracker? In my case, the one application I store on garage has a niche user base (maybe 4 people?) so I think they could put up with it. I haven't looked into it recently but I believe I did look into it when an earlier SDK (chinook?) started shipping 2.4. I would rather spend the small amount of time I have available over the next couple of weeks addressing the things that **have** to be addressed to port to Fremantle (like sound or alarm support for GPE and testing Opensync). There is no reason why libsoup2.2 and libsoup2.4 can't both be available (like in chinook and diablo). We just need whoever owns the repository process to work out why your successful build of libsoup2.2 hasn't made it into the repository! Well, it hasn't been heavily advertised yet (as the process still requires a lot of overhead), but we're moving to Bugzilla for community bug tracking. The Extras classification on Bugzilla contains all Extras projects (most with Garage projects). Eventually this will be automated, but it'll require some software updates first. ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers
