Does it happen consistently for you?
Well, after rebooting I also cannot reproduce it anymore...
It happened twice, both the times I was just surfing the web and using fbreader when I closed the cover. The first time it happened incidentally, it was in the evening, so at 4 AM it ran out of battery and started making beeps, it woke me up indeed, the cover was on.
The second time I did it intentionally following the procedure described above.

Are you playing an audio stream or accessing the network in some otherway?  The first time I was listening to a radio stream, but I am pretty sure I switched it off before putting the cover on.
Do you have any third-party apps installed?
Yes, a lot. But none of them except fbreader was (apparently) running (maybe in the background after an unclean exit, who can say, I did'nt  run a ps).
I'll keep investingating to see if I can reproduce it again.Alessandro.

Thanks for that hint, Peter. I've added a reply to this bug, confirming the
issue.

I don't reproduce this behavior. Does it happen consistently for you?

way? Do you have any third-party apps installed?

[maemo-users] ANN: Eagle 0.5 and Maemo Task Manager 1.0

2006-05-26 Thread Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri
I'm happy to announce the 0.5 version of Eagle[1] and release the new Maemo
Task Manager[2,3].

This new Eagle version comes with some improvements and a new component: a
Rich Text renderer. This new component is able to parse and display a HTML
subset, with font options and lists, however we still miss tables. Eagle is
improving fast, but it's API is almost stable, no radical changes are
expected in near future, just bugfixes, optimizations and few missing
components to be added (like a notebook/tabcontrol-like widget).

Another contribution to both Maemo and Eagle community is the brand new "Maemo
Task Manager", which allows you to monitor processes and even kill them
(useful for developers and bleeding edge users). Task Manager was created to
show how easy is to develop an application using Python and Eagle: GUI code,
with all bells and whistles, is just 225 lines (counting spaces and comments
and help text!), while code to read "/proc" and calc statistics is about 211.

Please report bugs to my mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Task Manager, Eagle and PyMaemo are sponsored by INdT.

[maemo-users] Bluetooth and GPS

2006-05-26 Thread Hans J. Koch
Hi,
I'm desperately trying to make my BT GPS receiver work. Current situation is
as follows:
- The Bluetooth plugin (maemo-bt-plugin 0.4.0-1) doesn't find the GPS. It
keeps searching for several minutes until I stop it manually.
- I put the ID of my GPS in ~/gps.id, with that gpsdrive works fine, but only
for a short time. After a while, gpsdrive reproducably displays "Timeout
getting data from GPS receiver!". If I switch off the GPS and stop gpsdrive,
it works again if I wait some time, but with the same results. I use
maemo-gpsd (0.0.1) and maemo-gpsdrive (0.0.3).

Firmware is Internet Tablet 2005 software edition 5.2006.13-7.

Questions:
Does anybody successfully use a GPS for longer than a few minutes?
What could be the problem?
What can I do?

Any hints are welcome.

Cheers,
Hans

[maemo-users] Strange behaviour when volume is off, wifi is on and cover is on

2006-05-26 Thread alessandro pasotti
Well, this is probably a bug, but maybe I've missed somethingTry this (with latest firmware):1 - connect with wifi2 - turn off sound from the panel applet (completely off, click on the loudspeacker icon)
3 - put the cover onIf you pull off the cover again, you will notice that wifi is still active. This doesn't happen when sound is enabled, in this case you will hear an ugly sound and wifi  connection will be switched off.
Is this different behaviour a feature or a bug?Regards.
