I want to connect a laptop to the N800 with bt OR usb, how can I then use the N800 as a wifi modem all day long?
Is bt OR usb a better connection if I use the N800 as a wifi modem? What if I just want to use the laptop keyboard to type stuff into xterm or other portions of the N800? Will the no host N800 usb make that impossible through usb? Can it be done easily with bluetooth? Something similar to this subject was discussed over a year ago. Since my laptop has lost her wifi, connecting to the N800 and using the N800 as a modem is very important to me. I am on an extended trip and have Internet access to wifi but not ethernet. I have a lot of work to do in a short time and having my laptop cut off from the Internet is a big problem. The N800 connects easily to the Internet but without my usual big screen, hard disk, and many other advantages of the laptop over the N800; twelve hours a day on the N800 is only a small fraction of the productive of 12 hours a day on the laptop. The N800 modem is an excellent solution. So how do I use it as such? Yes, that's possible if you are willing to do some hacking. You could first establish the 3G connection normally from the UI and then setup the WLAN network manually: ifconfig wlan0 up iwconfig wlan0 mode Ad-Hoc essid mynetwork After this you need to setup NAT and routing. The problem is that it's in the extras repository (at least for mistral) and that was not documented anywhere, at least that I found -- and I did search the site and other sites as well. All I'm saying is that up until now we've had a single openssh package which seems to have worked well, why now create two separate packages, one of which installs the other? The benefit from having a client-only package seems minimal. Your device is knackered, and it now needs a repair by Nokia. I tried, several times, from directions on two separate pages, to install the ssh server from repository.maemo.org mistral free and it wasn't there. The client was there, but not the server (and the description in the App Manager specifically said it was the client). What are the "rules" for membership and wiki editing? If I create an account can I just add this info myself to the repositories list? I figure stating that openssh client and server are in the extras/free would have made the difference for me and I would never have had to post this question. Waiting for 2 days already :( As for now it's pretty simple - add mistral/extras(770) or bora/extras(N800) to AM repository list and you will be able to install both client and server using AM.
