Bugzilla in read-only mode

2008-03-18 Thread marcell.lengyel
Hi All,

As you might have noticed there are some problems with connection
between bugs.maemo.org and the database server. That is why bugzilla is
running now in read-only mode. We have notified our ISP and they are
working on the problem. Please be patient, it is a high priority for us
too to get it fixed.

Thanks for your understanding,

Hello Mark,

Try again with the download please.
  For compilation check this page

I'm working on a new gui for the internet tablet, it's a bit
difficult now to see the status bar when driving a car so I'll make

Mark, you need to start gpsd or the included map application. Navit
doesn't start gpsd by itself.
Regarding maps, check in the menu "Map" if you see map list, if not
that means that something is missing.

I think it depends on SIP provider also, but @nokia guy confirmed that
 problem related to ITOS also.

startup questions

2008-03-18 Thread Chuck Robey
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

In the last OS, before I updated, all I needed to do was the ssh
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and since I had set the root password, this worked fine and
dandy. I'd heard something about the red pill mode (this some reference to
the Matrix?) but I'd never needed it. Well, I sure need it now. I saw, on
the web, and description of how to get root which was for a VERY elderly
version of the OS, which said you needed to reflash the N800 (thereby
tossing away all the stuff I'd done so far) and then to do the flash util
using a parameter of --enable-rd-mode, THEN after I had set the root
password (somehow, this is supposed to be easy in rd mode) to re-reflash
with --disable-rd-mode. Is this the method I gotta use, or is there
possibly some easier way to go about getting the root password? I mean,
when I flash OS2008, what the heck did it set the root password to? This
can't be true, it really seems to be an incredibly paranoid way to go about
things.

Just what is the rd mode?

Second, if I have the machine hooked up to the power supply, I want to have
the machine NEVER dim the screen, NEVER have the machine go to sleep. Is
there any way to go about this?

Lastly, is there some way to cause this machine to go into a sleeping mode,
so it doesn't need full reboot? If I do that, how do I go about safely
waking the machine back up again?

Thanks, fellas!

It's easier and safer to just install the "becomeroot" package, then in
a terminal issue "sudo gainroot".
Search for becomeroot here: http://www.gronmayer.com/it/

I think there's a setting for it in the control panel of OS2008

It's usually enough to lock the touchscreen (power button and then
central d-pad button) the same sequence will unlock it.

Just tap on the screen brightness control icon. Under the graphic
brightness level bar is a settings link. Tap on that, and in the
settings screen that comes up there's an option to keep the screen
from dimming when on external power. I don't have my N800 handy at the
moment, so I can't give you the exact names of things, but that's
where it is. (There's apparently no way to keep it from dimming while
on internal battery, although you can increase the time.)

I would be interested in this as well. I don't know of any mode other
than the previously mentioned "Lock buttons and touch screen" mode,
which only does that and blanks the screen. It doesn't actually put it
in a sleep or standby mode. I use that mode when I'm using it as an
mp3 player in my fanny pack. I sure wish it came with a hardshell
case. I can't even find one online.

Bluetooth keyboard?

2008-03-18 Thread Mark
Has anybody tried one of those Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboards with
their IT? They say they require OS X, but somebody was saying that it
worked great with his phone. Do they work with Windows and/or desktop
Linux as well? Is there a cheaper & smaller alternative?

If I could get a decent keyboard and OpenOffice.org working with my
N800, I'd be in 7th heaven. (I've heard Abiword is being ported, but
I've tried it on my desktop and it's just not a workable alternative
for me.)

Key travel sucks on them. Not a good typing experience. Hard to home
your fingers on keys.

They do look great though!

If you're not a real typer you will be happy.

I am definitely a touch typist, but I'm adaptable. I can use my Psion
Series 5 to good effect, as well as a tiny folding IR keyboard for my
Handspring Visor. (Too bad the Nokias don't have IR... of course I'd
still be lacking a driver.) They both have sculpted keys, though, so
it's easy to home your fingers. I'm not expecting a desktop (or even
full-sized laptop) keyboard experience. Apple does tend to place form
before function, image over substance, and hype above reality, so
don't get me started...

But I digress. What I really need to know if it's *compatible*, as in
plug-and-play. If it won't work with the N800 or kubuntu out of the
box, I'm not interested.

But if I could find something the size of my IR keyboard for a
reasonable price that's compatible, I'd jump at it. $80 for the Apple
keyboard is way at the top end of what I'm willing to pay, and then
only if it will work with my laptop and desktop as well. $130-$150 for
something that cost the manufacturer $10 at most to make is not my
idea of reasonable (the "Stowaway" model under various brands.) The
even smaller thumb keyboards (akin to the built-in N810 keyboard) are
not an option, either, as that would defeat the purpose.

There's a cool little device that projects an image of a keyboard on
any surface, but it's too expensive and won't work on a lap or leg. I
forget who makes it and what it's called, but aside from the coolness
factor and tiniest possible size for toting around, it also lacks any
feedback feel and requires a reasonably flat and relatively large area
to work.

Some of the locking/folding keyboards to have problems with
providing stable surface (they flexed)...and I think many have solved
this early issue. This used to be only reason to ignore folding style.

Something coming soon that looks kinda cool is the credit-card sized

Unfortunately, they are apparently sold out, and I can't find
another source for either the keyboard or the USB adapter. I need one
of those USB adapters more than anything else. It's critical for using
host mode. I've been considering splicing a couple of cables together,
but it would be nice to just have the little adapter.

Thanks, but that's too small. I want something I can touch-type on. This
one would save the touch-screen from overuse, but so would the larger
keyboards. I can use the on-screen keyboard just as fast as I would be
able to use this one, especially with the predictive text that the
on-screen keyboard does.
