That I know of there's nothing. I'm not sure it would be wise to
implement it via a header since anyone (e.g., scammers) might insert
such a header -- you would probably filter them out but what about the
millions of MTAs that wouldn't, whose operators haven't even heard of
BIMI. Providing an image to display should be done only via the mail
access protocol, and none have been officially extended to cover it as
yet except those that are internal to the few mailbox providers that
display them only within their webmail interface. If Microsoft ever
does something odds are the image will only be available via their own
protocols, or less likely they might have Outlook (probably new only)
perform the message validation, BIMI DNS record lookup, and image (HTTPS
fetch and) display.

When I visit the SNDS page using this, I get:

Error: no data for the specified IP

Not an access denied error. I guess Outlook has to receive mail from the
IP before it can be registered with JMRP? I guess being proactive doesn't
really mean a lot.

I'm not aware of any way to do this.

Microsoft used to have a method to add sender logos for hosted email
service domains. This was called Brand Cards. It's been dead for a few
years, though.

Re: [mailop] Outlook JMRP IP Feedback not available

2024-06-26 Thread Al Iverson via mailop
Try jumping directly to the appropriate "view data" page in SNDS for this
IP.
How? Use my little jumper widget here:
https://www.wombatmail.com/jump.cgi?d=
Plug in the IP, and it will convert the IP to the right format for the SNDS
URL.
That'll help you bypass the browse/select screen.
Of course, you'll get access denied if you don't actually have access for
the IP.
Then you'll know it's not a data issue, it's an access issue.

Cheers,
Al

[mailop] Outlook JMRP IP Feedback not available

2024-06-26 Thread Scott Mutter via mailop
What would cause an IP address to not show as being available for Outlook's
JMRP?

Going to

https://postmaster.live.com/snds

and using the link for Access Control, the IP in question is shown as being
authorized to view data about.

But clicking on Junk Mail Reporting Program and then clicking Manage, the
IP address is nowhere to be found.

Usually when adding a new IP address, I have to request access for the IP
address and verify that access by clicking the link in the email they
send. I've done that. Then when I visit the Junk Mail Reporting Program
link and click Manage, the IP address is listed under the heading IPs
Sending Feedback and directly under IP Addresses. I check the box next to
the IP address and Save Settings.

But the IP address is not listed under the IP Addresses heading.

I ask because the whole Microsoft/Outlook Postmaster Tools/SNDS/JMRP system
has been a bit wonky of late. I'm wondering if there is a system issue
somewhere along the lines that's not making the IP address available for
the JMRP.

That's a good idea, except when you have to deal with companies like
Everbridge Inc or Tencent QQ, which apparently think it's a good
idea to

rent VMs at various cloud providers and run them with their default
config.

Amazon SES does not use email servers with PTR records that end with
compute-1.amazonaws.com, so it is not affected.
ec2-.compute-1.amazonaws.com is the default name of AWS instances
and only used where the owner did not specify his own domain. This is
akin to people sending emails from @...onmicrosoft.com or
@...azurewebsites.net or @...vps.ovh.

My mail server for domain simplemail.co.in has a ptr with the azure
domain as value:

$ dig mx.simplemail.co.in +short
20.120.225.36

$ dig -x 20.120.225.36 +short
tls-mail.westus2.cloudapp.azure.com.

do you think if I should change the ptr value to something other like my
own domain?

Yes, the domain in the PTR record should reflect the responsible party..
There are M3AAWG Best Practices articles that can go into more details..

But, for example.. this is your responsibility, not Azure's when you
have a spam leakage. If you want ordinary people to notify you, they
will go to your website as reflected in the domain in the PTR, to look
for contact information.

This is even more important than FCrDNS

Thanks.

There is no need as this resolves consistently both ways.

$ dig +short tls-mail.westus2.cloudapp.azure.com
20.120.225.36

[mailop] Set profile picture from server side for Outlook (Standalone client)

2024-06-26 Thread Sebastian Nielsen via mailop
Hi.

I wonder, which header should I set to show a profile picture in Microsoft
Outlook (standalone client)?

(I know that, I for, security reasions, may need to enable or set some
configuration for this to work)

I know that I can add labels to a email by using "Keywords:" header, and
then going in settings and set "Show categories", and then the labels will
show.

In this way, I can show important information in the client from the server
side.

The thing is, that BIMI and brand images are not supposed to be handled
client-side, but on the server side, so now I want to implement a
experimental BIMI support in my exim configuration.

This by fetching the BIMI and then setting this as profile picture inside
Outlook programmatically.

And also implement some "fallback logic" for when theres no BIMI logo, and
possible show a label if the logo is correctly BIMI-verified.

This ofcourse means I need to be able to set the profile picture even for
email adresses I don't own, for incoming emails, by inserting/changing a
header in the incoming mail.

So the idea is basically:

1: Email lands in my server

2: Verify BIMI on email

3: Do some other logic stuff

4: If everything checks out, insert header to show logo as profile picture
in Microsoft Outlook Standalone Client (instead of the first letter in all
names)

Note that Microsoft Outlook Client, will not have BIMI support, and will
never do. Its just webmail operators that will get full fledged BIMI
support.

I have tried with X-Image-URL but didn't work (even tough loading of images
from external sources are turned on)

Best regards, Sebastian Nielsen
