RE: MI Online Survey with prizes worth over US$ 100,000

2000-08-01 Thread Jure Ravnik

OK, so I went and compleded the survey which
promises prizes and stuff.

The survey asks questions about what you do in GIS
what magazines you read, ect - if you tell
the truth you can answer all questions in only one way.

Afte clicking submit I got a message that I will not enter
ths prize draw, because I gave the wrong answers, and
if I like I can try again?!

What king of survey is this???
Of course I could say I own a company of 1000 GIS consultants and
I've been working in this area since eniac and I read everything there is
to read about GIS

The results of this survey will be phoney,
so don't bother entering.

RE: MI MODFLOW help

2000-07-26 Thread Jure Ravnik

The MODFLOW model itself is free and can be downloaded from www.epa.gov.
But running this will require preparation of input files in the old DOS way,
so pre and post processors are commonly used to work faster.

I use Visual Modflow from Waterloo hydrogeologic - www.flowpath.com.
Needless to say, the pre and postprocessors are not free of charge.

Dear Robin,

I'm using Visual Modflow. You can import files via DXF into
Visual Modflow.
The original modflow is a DOS based programme which does
not support graphics. However you can
use MI as a tool to prepare the input files.

RE: MI DXF Importing

2000-07-20 Thread Jure Ravnik

I do a lot of DXF import. Here are the guideline that I follow :

1) use R12 dxf
2) in AutoCad check zoom/extents to get the limits of the dxf
3) in MI use non-earth projection
4) set the map limits according to the zoom/extents in acad

Hope this helps,

Hi All,

I am having all sorts of problems importing any old dxf file into MI
V5.5, and will soon lose the will to live ;-) !! Please offer some
advice if you can.

I am trying the process of Table > Import >DXF etc etc. As I have been
able to work this in the past (on MI V4.12) I can't understand the
problem. After clicking on OK, it either stops immediately stating an
object error, or will begin processing the file and find numerous line
limitations problems, eventually creating a .tab file with no objects
whatsoever.

Is there a particular version of a dxf that I should be importing, i.e.
Autocad V13ASCII Or is my version of MI corrupt, or is it user
error?!?

To add insult to injury, I have NEVER been able to use the Universal
Translator (and there is little documentation explaining its use in any
manual or online help). After filling in all of the fields and setting
it off to perform the translation, I received back the following error
message:

"Exception ElnOutError in module imutgui.exe at 0004A95C. Invalid
Filename"

Are you able to tell me what this means? Am I using the translator
wrong? What can I do?

I hope that someone can help me with this. I apologise if I am sounding
bitter and twisted about this, but I've come to the end of my tether.

MI Raster OR operation

2000-06-27 Thread Jure Ravnik

Dear Listers,

I'm searching for a raster processing tool that could do
an OR operation on two raster images.
Both images are identical size in pixels and are
BW bitmap.

I'd like the software to compare the images pixel by
pixel and make a new image according to OR rule :
black OR black = black
black OR white = black
white OR black = black
white OR white = white.

Batch processing would also come in handy.

 Thaks,

MI Create points

Hi listers,

I've created a native MI table with

Name XY

columns. The projection is NonEarth.
When I ran "Create Point" I choose wrong columns
for X and Y. Instead of X=X I chose X=Y and Y=X.

Running "Create Points" again doesn't move
the locations of points.

I know I can export to TXT and back to a new table.
Must I really do this?

RE: MI Conversion from ArcView rasterfile (.tfw)

2000-05-02 Thread Jure Ravnik

Hi,

the attached exe file converts .tfw to .tab.
It uses the following assumptions :

it converts all tfw's in the current dir (you start it from your command line)
it takes that the name of the raster file is the same as the name of the tfw file.
It asks for the raster file extention. (You need only the tfw files to make the
convertion)
it needs the file tabmask.txt in the current dir.

The program is postcardware.

Hi Dina,

when you import DXF into MI there is a Projection button on the
dialog. Use it to set up the projection and also the map limits.

If you have an object in the DXF that is out of those limits you
get your error. To check the limits use zoom/extents in AutoCad
( you can have a small object someware and you don see it)

Transfer the print file to the other computer and

Hello List,

I'm using MI 5.0 and have been recieving requests for large maps, like 24" x

another department but they don't have MapInfo. My experience to date has been
to "copy (layout) window as" as a TIFF, BMP, or JPEG and then send it to a copy
place who then blows up the image. I've tried saving in a variety of images and
sizes. For example setting the layout window to 2 pages X 3 pages but the
resultant maps look terrible. Thet look like you expect an image enlared by 300%
to look.

I don't know if I'm missing something or, the print shop is missing something
but I need help. I've been able to sell GIS to our managers and have now my
phone is ringing off the hook.

I have encountered the following problem printing to a Deskjet 690C
printer, and would be interested to know if anyone else has
encountered/overcome it:

When printing from MapInfo 5.5, overlaying transparent hatches do not print
correctly. Only the uppermost hatch is printed, as if the hatch had a
background colour set, which it doesn't.

MapInfo is running on a Win NT 4.0 workstation, the printer driver is the
latest downloaded from HP website (dj503en.exe June '98). The printer is a
remote shared network printer.

If I print from MapInfo 4.0 on a Win 3.11 machine (with the printer
directly attached on LPT1) it behaves correctly.

Ironically I also have an 'antique' HP Paintjet XL which prints the
overlaying hatches correctly from MapInfo 5.5 under Win NT 4.0.

If I save the map window as a .jpeg and send it to the HPDJ690c it also
prints correctly, but resolution is not satisfactory.

HP not interested.

Any input gratefully received.

Hi Tyson and the List,

Here's the VB5.0 and MAPX solution of the shortest path
problem.
It's my first VB program, so its very simple and slow. But it
works fine.

The sub to call is MinLenTree(beginning vertex, end vertex).
The program selects the solution and displays the results
in a another form.

If you just need a algorithm, study the sub MinLentree from
the label zacetek: to the if that has goto zacetek.

I had to write this in a hurry so the algorithm that I came up with
is the simplest you can think of. I'm sure that better ones can be
found in books.

MI TFW 2 TAB

1999-11-08 Thread Jure Ravnik

HI list,

I just got 100 or so raster TFW files. Using Matt's instructions I
wrote a pascal routine that converts all *.tfw to *.tab in a current dir.

The program needs tabmask.txt to create the tab file.
Change the coordsys clause in tabmask.txt to use other projections.
The program asks for image file type - enter TIF or PCX or ...
whatever coressponds to image filename.

I'm attaching the source code (tfw2tab.pas) in hope that someone will
translate it to mbx (I don't have mapbasic myself).
The code is written in Borland's Turbo Pascal.

my problem was : My data is

region(attrib), x1,y1,x2,y2,x3,y3,x4,y4

I wanted to create regions by connecting points 1-2,2-3,3-4,4-1.

Solutions :

1) If you have Mapbasic - it should be no problem.
2) If you don't have mapbasic :

- export a sample region in MIF and edit MIF with a text editor.
- Use the cre8quad.mbx written by David M Haycraft

MI transperent pattern

1999-08-24 Thread Jure Ravnik

Hi, list,

I have a wierd printing problem. I'm running NT40 & MI 5.01.
In my map I have a raster and a region over it. In layer control/display
I set that the region is filled with a pattern and there is no background.
When I look at my map in map and in layout windows everything is OK.
I can see the raster through the pattern.

But when I print the layout (on HP deskjet 1100C) the pattern is no longer
transperent. The raster is not printed. The spaces in the pattern are white.

What's wrong?

MI A printing problem

1999-08-20 Thread Jure Ravnik

MI Update column - solved

1999-08-09 Thread Jure Ravnik

Hi, all

thanks for help. The mapbasic sentance :

Set CoordSys NonEarth Units "m"

helped.

Another solution :

The ratio between the munber got by double clikinig the
point object and the update column number was 94m
That's 111.2km = Pi/180*6380km=1degree.The numbers
returned by update coloumn were as most of you said in
degrees (lat and long).

 Thanks,

  Jure.

MI Update column!

1999-08-06 Thread Jure Ravnik

Hi all,

What I want to do is pretty simple. I created a table
of points (well locations for measuring groundwater depth).
The table is in Non-earth(meters) projection and has
three fields. A character one to describe well name and x,y.

I drew the well location by hand (clicked them with a mouse referring
to the bitmap underneath.

Now, I'd like to have a list of well locations.
Referring to the page 322 of MI 5.0 manual I chose
update column :

Table to Update : my_table
Column to update : x
Get Value from Table : my_table
Value : CentroidX(obj)

My zeros in the table change to a strange set of numbers:
A well at : X : 553267.215m and Y: 156774.822m ( I got those by clicking on the point
object)
corresponds to x : 4.975654 and y:1.409911

I'd like to have the correct locations in the table.

TIA
