MI splitting countyborders to a coastlayer.

2000-09-19 Thread Kjartan Greiff Selnes

Hello members.

I am trying to split borders to a coastlayer, so no border is visible at
sea.
My coast is a polygon layer (many, many polygons witch reprecent a coastal
contour or a shore if you like. It goes a few km out to sea also) and my
borders are converted polylines (from region). Right now im setting the
borders as target. I select all the coast-polygons that the border intersect
and do a split. Then i remove the line-elements (from the border-layer) at
sea.

(Hope this description gives sense, and i am thinking i'm doing this the
hard way)

Two questions: Are there a easier way to split the borders (with overlay
split or similar operations). Should i combine all polygons in the coast
layer to one big polygon for easier handeling.(Big operation -10.000
polygons)
And are there a split option in mapinfo on a single line-layer??(splitting
at a node and creating two lines instead of one continuious line)

2000-09-05 Thread Kjartan Greiff Selnes

greeting members.

I have a problem during querying tables. I get the message "can not open
table". A memory problem i wondered.
Its a table with 250.000 records ( and i have recently done queryies on
tables with a millon records with no problem).
On a query that i know returns few records, lets say about 20.000 it goes
ok, but a query that should return about 200.000 records goes "ad undas".

I've done boot on the hardware and some memoryadjustments, but still the
same problem. (enough space on the disk too.

Im pretty new to MI and are there some things in the sw that i should check
out according to this problem. (What about temporary files or somethiing
like that).

Any hints or tips would be helpful

MI Query a textfield

2000-08-16 Thread Kjartan Greiff Selnes

Dear List.

I have a table witch contains a text-coloumn(citynames). Some cities occours
several times in the coloumn at approximately the same location
I'm trying to query this table to get unique citynames in the column (avoid
duplicate names)with:
select columns: *
>From tables: tablename
Group by columns: cityname

I get a result witch looks alright in a browser, but i noticed that no
points where selected from the original mapper(table). I saved the query as
a table and opened it. It will not open the file in a mapper but only in a
browser!!!.
For the l... of G.. why!!

Hope some of you gurus can help me out.

MI Geocode

2000-07-26 Thread Kjartan Greiff Selnes

Hi list.

I have a question that may be a bit off target regarding to
MapInfo-competance but i am a bit desperate right now...

I have this problem to import the tables in a huge oraclebase to MapInfo
(via Access). Any ODBC-call from Access goes wrong.
But there is a CD with a dump of the oracle data with the file-extension
*.dmp. Does anyone have experience retriving such files??

Any response would be useful

MI Graphical elements

2000-07-24 Thread Kjartan Greiff Selnes

Hi list

I have converted a set of data from a norwegian format (SOSI) to
MapInfo-format.
These data contains among other things the graphical elements (directly
translated); "circle" and "bows"
witch is represented by two points(bow) or one point(center, circle) and a
radius that describes the size of the element.

My question to you is : Does MapInfo(MI) reconize these elements or will MI
just operate on lines, points, polygons and text. And if MI not reconize it,
how does it then represent f.ex. the bow? As short lines or longer lines
with sequential coordinates or what ??

You see, i will use the data in another application whitch does not reconize
bows and circles, so in my case it is actually best if MI represent the bows
as a type of lines.......
