RE: MI ad or else?
This is a positive response from Hong Kong. If the $ scale is not too much away from Jacques's proposal, we can be one of the sponsors. $25-$50 a year is not too high even for a small firm like us in Hong Kong. It is not good to ask all readers' to pay since students and some cannot afford while some others cannot afford the bureaucracy to sign the cheque of any amount. I feel some GIS related, or even gambling, adv is fine. But too much would damage the list. Hope Bill feels good when getting support from people around the world. I suggest to respect Bill's idea. To advertising, of which I have no idea how obtrusive it could become, I would prefer sponsorship. It could take a very simple form. Add 4 lines in the message that is always at the end of our mail (To unsubscribe...) that will say : This month, the mapinfo-l site is supported by: ... and a max of 3 lines identifying the sponsor and its coordinates. Sponsorship will be obtained by paying a given amount per month (let us say $25). Sponsors could buy more than a month at the time (simplification on the administrative side) but they will be given "recognition" in alternation with other sponsors if any are "waiting" (to avoid monopolization because mapinfo-l is a collective enterprise). I am sure that among us there are certainly 12 persons or companies ready to spend a legal expense of $25 (even in US $) once a year to keep this famous ball rolling. Keep it within ourselves and we will continue enjoying it fully. From another angle - there free email list services, e.g. www.egroups.com. Any group of interested people can form a list there - for free. And they claim they have a good-working anti-spam policy. Trey's solution gets my James Michael Curley Boston vote (about twenty per person). Leaves the list uncluttered and allows the individual sponsor to provide maximum information or irritation to those unwary enough to click the link. Re: MI ad or else?
Yeap - would be in for sponsoring too - however, what do you do with just 25 USD ? Is that enough ? regards Flavio *** REPLY SEPARATOR *** On 23.09.2000 at 10:21 Yosri Diab wrote: >Jacques >Good idea, I would sponsor for six month. $150 is not a bad deal for >publicity, and to maintain the list independent. >Yosri Diab >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Developer of DriveXDK the Street Routing for GIS Professional >www.DiabSoft.com >- Original Message - >From: "Jacques Paris" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2000 8:23 AM >Subject: MI ad or else? > > >> To advertising, of which I have no idea how obtrusive it could become, I >> would prefer sponsorship. >> >> It could take a very simple form. Re: MI ad or else?
Jacques Good idea, I would sponsor for six month. $150 is not a bad deal for publicity, and to maintain the list independent.
