MI-L too many files open

2001-11-20 Thread PEM

Hi Gilbert,

I guess the reason why MapInfo notify you on the map files is that when
showning the tablkes in a mapper, it is actually the
map files that are used.

In ancient time there was a setting in Windows that told you and windows
how many open files there should be memory to hold.
Mayby this is the problem here ?

MI-L MapInfo & Windows 2000 compatibility problems

2001-11-20 Thread PEM

Hi,

I'm running Win2000 with no problems now. I can only say that Win2000 is
the most stable OS i've used. And no I'm not working with Microsoft.

I did have some problems when I started using it. Sometimes like a like a
bolt from the blue Windows crashed with a blue screen.
After a while I found out that this occured when ever I was resizing the
windows - and often from within MapInfo, but of course I work
maybe 90 % of my time in MapInfo/MapBasic. And it also happend in other
software programs.

After a while we figured out that the problem was a conflict with the
videocard which was working more or less as a television screen. The
display device
was sat to TV. We then changed it to LCD and voila as the french - and
canadian ? - say. The problems were all gone.

I'm running the Win2000 on a Toshiba Sattellit Pro 4600, if anyone would
like to know.

Hope this can help any of you out there.

Re: MI-L Large Format Printers

2001-11-20 Thread Neil Moseley

Eric,

For large plots, the virtual memory setting of 600Mb seems a little low.
Watch the task manager as it plots, and see if you hit any limits. If you
have the space then I would set the upper limit for the pagefile to
something like 2 gigs.

I have experience with the 650c, and have noticed that if memory "limits"
are hit, then NT somehow expands the limits and carries on. If this
happens, however, the plot will usually fail.

MI-L .mdf file for NavTech data

--_=_NextPart_001_01C1720D.DE1D2D80

Hello List,

Does anyone have a standard .mdf file to display NavTech NavStreet Premium
data? I have some NavTech data which I can view in MapInfo Professional. I
would like to display it nicely in my MapXtreme Java servlet.
What I've done so far:
I opened up the .wor file (provided by NavTech -- with very nice data
display). I then used the built-in tool (MapX Geoset Utility tool) in
MapInfo Pro to convert the .wor file to a Geoset (.gst). Then I used the
Map Definition Manager to save the Geoset as a Map Definition (.mdf).

The result is less than optimal. The display looks a little clumsy.

Thanks in advance,
Kristi.

MI-L Large Format Printers

2001-11-20 Thread Eric Durrance

I know this issue has been hashed through several time on the -L, however I
have a few specific questions regarding large format printers.

The PC's:
 MapInfo 6.0, WinNT 4.0, sp6, 550mhz, 256MB, Virtual Memory is set at
~600MB, all machines have > 4gigs free space on HDD.

The Plotters:
1. HP650c, 68 MB, Driver installed locally to each machine (Spools on each
users hardrive)
2. NovaJet PRO 60e, 8MB (Connected LPT1 to \\MAPROOM, Spools on \\MAPROOM)

My experience has shown each Plotter does well until the spool size
reaches ~150 megs. After that the machine thrashes the hard drive for hours
and never actually prints anything. I have tried the drivers in every
possible configuration, as well as several suggestions from MapInfo Corp.
regarding "Output Settings", to no avail.
My question(s) are this:

1. Am I asking to much of my current hardware?
2. Does anyone else print jobs this size to similar large format printers?
3. If so what is your current configuration?
4. Have I exceeded the limits of our current PC configuration?
5. Have I exceeded the limits of our current plotters?
6. How can I make this work?
7. Would a RIP help the Printers digest the larger files?

Any Suggestions/comments greatly appreciated.

The Test Plot:
 1. South East Florida, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. County layer,
Cities, Streams, Lake, Airports, Streets, etc.
This Plots fine. Spools to about 10 megs.
2. All of the above and 80,000 customer points, represented as a wingding
font size 6.
Printed to the NOvaJet , took ~3 hrs to print. Would not print
completely on the HP650c. Spools about 150MB
3. All of the above and ECW Aerial Photography(no transparancy)
Will not print to either printer. MapInfo gives an error "Cannot
Print" Spools >150 MB

RE: MI-L Bearing of a line

2001-11-20 Thread Paul . CRISP

Theres no inbuilt function in MapInfo but this MB function will do the job -
not sure if it behaves itself with Lat/Long but its fine with the national
grids I've worked with. Easily ported to VB, PL-SQL etc.

FUNCTION Brg(BYVAL x1,y1,x2,y2 AS FLOAT) AS FLOAT
'Returns the bearing in radians East zero , anti clockwise)
OnError goto labelError

DIM m AS FLOAT
IF (x2 = x1) AND (y2 > y1) THEN
m = Pi/2
ELSE
IF (x2 = x1) AND (y2 < y1) THEN
m = -Pi/2
ELSE
m = ATN((y2-y1)/(x2-x1))
'Check for a horizontal line here if you
need to
'IF (y2 = y1) AND (x1 > x2) THEN
' horizontal line
' m = - Pi
'END IF

' Convert to a 4 quadrant ATAN
IF x2 < x1 THEN
m = m + Pi
END IF
END IF
END IF

Brg = m

Exit FUNCTION
labelError:
Call ErrorHandler("Brg")
END FUNCTION 'Brg

You could try this - no way to test it myself. Found it on the MapInfo-L
archives.

Hi.

Does anyone have the projection string for Albers Equal Area projection for
Canada? This is different from the generic one for N. America. Thanks in
advance.

MI-L Label boxes missing from PDF files

2001-11-20 Thread Tim.Nuteson

I just upgraded to Mapinfo Pro 6.5, and now when I create PDF files with
Adobe PDFWriter 4.0, the white boxes behind my labels don't show up in the
PDF file. This has always worked before (in MI 5.5), so there must be
something different in 6.5. Does anyone have any idea?

When I use Acrobat Distiller, the label boxes show up, but the red tops of
my interstate shields are missing. So Distiller is not really an option
either. If anyone has any suggestions how I might fix either of these
problems, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

MI-L Italy Map

2001-11-20 Thread Stewart, Andrew R.J.

Greetings, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good source for world maps in
a MapInfo format. In particular, I am looking for a map of Italy, one that
shows the hydrography, especially around the Po River and its delta. If
anyone could help me with this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks,
Andrew.

MI-L AD - Mapbasic Developer Vacancy

2001-11-20 Thread Martin Hodder

Hello,

The ORC Partnership is a small successful retail management consultancy
based in the countryside just south of Oxford.

Most of our clients are retail property investors and our offer centres upon
the analysis of retail supply and demand. We have developed a GIS modelling
solution called the Retail Sales and Profit Model (RSPM) with which we can
successfully evaluate the retail opportunity for a town, shopping centre,
retail park or store. We produce practical, tangible results well
understood by both the retail property investors and the retailers to whom
we report.

We are a small team but expanding rapidly and we are looking to recruit an
experienced MapBasic developer to assist in expanding the functionality of
the RSPM.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and enthusiastic to learn
the systems and processes employed in our office. A willingness to be
flexible in the scope of the work undertaken will be required.

You will have at least 3 years experience in using MapBasic (Version 4 and
above) and will have used windows API functions. You will have extensive
knowledge in the use of MapInfo Professional (Version 6 and above). Any
experience in site location or gravity modelling would be desirable, but not
essential.

Knowledge of VB and/or ASP will be an advantage.

In return we offer a competitive salary, a working week of 37.5 hours (9 to
5.30pm with an hour for lunch), 25 days annual holiday and a great working
environment.

Initially we would look to recruit from with the UK.

If you wish to find out more then initially you may drop me an email.

If you would like to apply for the job then please send a CV and a
handwritten covering letter, with salary expectation to: -

MI-L Using a MS Word or MS Excel icon in a buttonpad?

2001-11-20 Thread Søren Breddam

Dear List,

I have made a MB program that creates a txt-file with the selection data and
column names, then opens a Word document and merges the txt-file. The other
function is sending the same data to Excel.

Now I would like to have the Word and Excel icons on my buttonpad.

Is that possible?

TIA
