MI-L MapInfo table metadat in MapX ?
Hi, Does anyone know whether it's possible or not to access MapInfo table metadata (located in the TAB file) thru the MapX object model ? Or is it necessary to use some sort of work-around ? RE: MI-L Save Window As...Only 96 DPI?
Ryan The Save Window As function has a memory leak in MI 7, even in the patched version. This might be what your problem is - get the performance monitors up on screen and try it through the MapBAsic window in MI Pro I got round it by using API calls - there are some examples on the MicroSoft site. As for being adjustable, it is to a point, for example I can make a 30" X 40" @200 DPI, but I can't make a 60" X 80" at 150 DPI. Why would they limit it? RE: MI-L Save Window As...Only 96 DPI?
Hello Ryan, I have a MapBasic tool which might help you. The description is below. I originally thought it would not be of any use to MI Pro v7.0 users as most of the functionality for setting DPI is now in the product. However, with the memory leak problem, perhaps it still has some legs. Essentially the tool allows you to save a map or layout window (with an optional note in the corner) in units including pixels and with the option to modify the DPI setting (for a TIFF image) afterwards. You do need to do the multiplication described by Bill to convert a size at 96dpi to 250dpi, but at least when you import the image into a "dpi aware" drawing package, the image will be at the right size. E-mail me if you, or any other -L'er, would like a copy. Regards, Warren Vick Europa Technologies Ltd. http://www.europa-tech.com SaveMap.MBX, Version 1.3 (c) 2001, 2002 Europa Technologies Ltd. SaveMap.MBX requires MapInfo Professional version 4.5 or higher. SaveMap is a utility for MapInfo Professional which can save map and layout windows as image files. It is an enhancements on MapInfo's "File > Save Windows As..." in the following ways: - The user may specify the size of the image in pixels, as well as all other standard paper units - The user may add a message (e.g. title, copyright) to the bottom left corner of the saved image. - For TIFF images, the user may specify the required dots-per-inch (DPI) value. - Preferences for message, file type and DPI (for TIFFs) are stored (SaveMap.INI) Simply run the utility from the "File > Run MapBasic Program..." menu, or use the Tool Manager to autoload the program every time MapInfo is used. SaveMap adds options to the bottom of "Tools" menu. "Save Map Window..." performs the main function of the utility and "About..." provides information about the version and source of the program. When choosing the "Save Map Window..." option for the first time, the utility will request to perform a very quick check of the systems DPI value. This is a once only test. The "Save Map Window..." option will present the user with a dialog window. Simply choose any message text required, the image size and file type. If the file type is TIFF, you may choose to change the default DPI value. What is the DPI? All images are made up of a matrix of dots or "pixels". When you specify the required size of your image, you can specify the size in a one of many "paper" units, but ultimately this will be converted to an image size in pixels. If you specify an image size in inches, the size of the image will be determined by the systems DPI value. For example, if you system is at 96dpi, a map image which is 10x10 inches will be 960x960 pixels. DPI is effectively the "density" of pixels in an image. Some image formats, like "TIFF", are able to store the DPI value within their file format. When importing such a file in to a desktop publishing (DTP) application, the default size on the page is determined by the image size and the DPI. When sending an image for print, it is desirable to have a DPI value which is compatible with the specifications for the process. This may require images at 150, 200, 300dpi or higher. The SaveMap utility allows you to specify the size of the image and then, for TIFFs, modify the image's DPI value. This will ensure that when an image is imported into a DTP product, it will be at the correct size on the page. IMPORTANT: Note that the specification of the image size is still based on the system DPI value and not the value that has been entered for the modification. If you change the graphics card or the resolution of your computer, the DPI value used by MapInfo may change. Images may not be created at the expected size. If this occurs, locate the settings file SAVEMAP.INI which resides in the same location as SAVEMAP.MBX. Delete the INI file and re-start the SaveMap utility. A request will be made to determine the new DPI value. Unfortunately, this action will result in the loss of your preferred paper units and file type for the utility. (If you're feeling brave you can just edit the INI file - change the 4th line value to 0 and this with force the utility to re-query the system DPI) Note that this utility is provided free of charge and may be freely distributed on a strictly not-for-profit basis. MI-L Minimum distance calculation
Allo everybody, I have made an SQL query to calculate distance in centimeter between 2 objects. It work very well unless i'm not able to get any distances below 8 cm. I have for digit for all data, but as soon as the distance is under 8 cm I get 0. When I take the ruler to measure the distance between the two points I'm able to get 1.5 cm. How come I'm not able to get anything below 8. I have tried to export all points form Lat Long to UTM but still the same. Anyone encounter this problem??? I know that I can calculate distance by exporting the points coordinates an making measure from it, but is there an other way by using only the point objects?? RE: MI-L Minimum distance calculation
Hi Anto, I think you need to tell MapInfo which projection to use when retieving the coordinates you are calculating distances between. Try to enter the following in the MapBasic window: Set CoordSys Table MYTABLE Where MYTABLE is the name of your table This will tell MapInfo to use the same projection as your table when extracting coordinates. The reason for this problem is that if you don't tell MapInfo anything else it use lat/long when retrieving the coordinates, and the resulotion of lat/long with no projection is around 10 cm (have a look at Jacques Paris description on the "resolution" of MapInfo) But if your table is in lat/long you might consider using a different approach: 1. Change the projection in the front map window to something more precise than Lat/long. 2. Enter the following in the MapBasic window: Set CoordSys Window FrontWindow() This will tell MapInfo to use the same projection as your active mapper when extracting coordinates. MI-L Friday help
Pre-weekend greetings, I am having yet another Friday moment and I wonder if I could get some help. I am trying to create a new LATA only table from our ExhangeInfoPlus Data from MapInfo. The process I am using now is to select the LATAs that match a given number (i.e. "552"), then combine those areas using the value of the LATA column. This is a slow process as there are over 70,000 entries and hundreds of different LATA's. Can anyone let me in on how to combine any areas with matching LATA numbers without doing this arduous process. Much thanks and cold Guinness wishes to all you reply. rm
RE: MI-L Friday help
I'm not sure if this is really what you want, but the promise of cold Guinness convinced me that I'd better answer any way. You have in the Table menu a menu item called something like Combine objects using column... (i'm not sure of the exact name of the menu item, because I'm using a Danish MapInfo, and trust me the Danish translation surely wouldn't help you ;:)) The will let you combine objects that have the same value in a given column, so that you in the end will end up with as many objects as you have unique values in the chosen column. If you have MapInfo 7.0 you'll even be able to create a new table from this function. If not I'd recommend that you create a new table before usig this function. HTH and I'll be looking foreware to the cold Guinness, eventhough I'd think it would be hard to find hedre in Kosova ;-) Best regards, Peter Horsbøll Møller GIS Developer COWI A/S Rugårdsvej 55 DK 5000 Odense C Tel +45 6313 5013 Direct+45 6313 5008 Mobil +45 2270 4308 Fax +45 6313 5090 -Original Message- From: Morris, Rich To: MI-L (E-mail) Sent: 14-03-03 19:39 Subject: MI-L Friday help Pre-weekend greetings, I am having yet another Friday moment and I wonder if I could get some help. RE: MI-L Save Window As...Only 96 DPI?
Sorry sir, please don't bar me from the list, but your formula had an error. :) I show 858 MB in Photoshop for a 250 DPI tiff @ 60" X 80" RGB. You forgot there are 1048576 bytes per megabyte. The formula would be: =((250DPI*80in)*(250DPI*60in)*(24bytes/8bytes))/1048576bytes = 858.3MB Which my 1.5 GB of RAM should be able to handle. Why limit it? Re: MI-L Save Window As...Only 96 DPI?
Yah, okay... your dimensions are utter poppycock, but your result is right; you got lucky. The 3 bytes/pixel actually comes from RGB color being (24bits/pixel) / (8bits/byte), and if we assume that when you square the d in dpi the result is pixels (the i in dpi is inches of course), the dimensionally correct equation is: (250dpi * 80in * 250dpi * 60in) * 3 bytes/pixel = 900,000,000 bytes Of course, that little bit of pedantry doesn't solve your problem... maybe MapInfo on XP just can't handle images that size. (And I don't kick people off the list for rubbing my nose in it... I just subject them to withering scorn and searing sarcasm! ;-) - Bill "Ryan Morgan, Aerials Express" wrote: > > Sorry sir, please don't bar me from the list, but your formula had an error. > :) > > I show 858 MB in Photoshop for a 250 DPI tiff @ 60" X 80" RGB. MI-L Alaska-Peru reprojection
G'day I was wondering if someone could help me... I am having a Friday brain freeze at the moment! I have a list of GPS coordinates of sampels collected in Peru, that were incorrectly collected using the NAD27, UTM Alaska zone 6. I need to convert these coordinates to the Provisional South American Datum 56, southern UTM zone 18. Can I do this in MapInfo? I plotted the data using the Alaskan projection and datum and then saved a copy of the Table using PSAD56, SUTM18 but the new coordinates are wrong as I get negative easting values and very large northing values What am I doing wrong? Do I need to account for being south of the equator?
