MI-L GPS .. GPX exchange format
-- Mappers I have a small inconsequential job to do for some colleagues in the council, we have some garmin e-trex GPS things lying around in Highways, our countryside service has a project to create a series of routes for mountain bikes that will be promoted in a booklet and web site, Having just looked at a similar site in Northern Spain where they are allowing visitors to download files to load into these cheap hand held things for the routes they are promoting. I have been able to find some freeware to pull the route of the e-trex and convert it to what looks an xml/gml standard interchange format that some GPS users seem to be pushing. Does anyone out there know of some freeware which will convert the GPX exchange format into a common GIS format that will enable me to get the data as a polyline into Mapinfo, otherwise a collection of points would be a runner up, be this a tool to convert gpx to eOO or DXF or an mbx tool I am not worried as long as it can end up in a mapinfo map window... thanks.. and yes the budget is a bit slim so large budget solutions will be difficult to pursue Adrian - List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 9008
Re: MI-L Vertical Mapper - What happened to Northwood G
given the glum financial state Marconi appear to be at present, VM must surely be vulnerable to low investment or even having the rug pulled if Marconi do not give Northwood the resources to deal with their non telco business.. I still run my bombproof 1.5 VM which has survived at least 4 MI upgrades and still ticks along happy slope mapping Adrian - List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 3907
Re: MI-L Free Vector to Raster tool
Hi Mappers it's me... been a bit quiet lately my answer is based on some work I often do in Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator open your MapInfo (tm) table/s and display as an entire 'layer in view' setting, then in an editable cosmetic layer create at least 4 distinct point objects at definable co-ordinate locations fianlly record the points co-ordinate locations, what you will do is save the final screen as a raster layer (bmp/tiff/jpeg) then bring the resulting image file back into MapInfo . Use the original cosmetic layer objects as registering points. Set the correct projection of your original map and use the points for your geo-referencing applying the co-ordinates at the proper point. You can then later open the raster part of the file set into software like Photoshop and paint out or erase the reference marks without changing the size or resolution of the image. remember the bigger size you save the window as the less subject the resulting file will be to plines with crazy pixel jaggies but noting the file will be so much larger. To work out the best balance between size and clarity can only be determined by your intended use To get the best referencing point accuracy make a grid based on your required co-ordinate system using the finest line setting possible, georeference at known grid intersections then paint out the grid if possible in photoshop etc Does anybody know if there is a Mapbasic or free tool that will rasterize a vector table. I would like to be able to overlay this boundaries and give some bit of transparency. Re: MI-L MapInfo and Flash
Almost easy peasy... well not quite but i still have MapInfo running on a mac and using MapPublisher from Avenza drop mif files into Adobe Illustrator 8 and then reformat line stiles , i create all my layers and after much experimenting have found it best to cut and paste each layer into a new layer in Adobe Livemotion which can generate flash I have been able to recreate a full gis view with layers switching on and off and zooming tools to get better detail. Hopefully MI pro 7 will have at least swf export however as ever i raise the plea.. MapInfo Corp give mac users a 32,000 node plus version of mapinfo back . Ok it can be done on a pc i guess but heck the world is round not rectangular set in four pains yet is it.. and if it was what projection would it be 'Gates Restricted Flat Earth' ?? :-) that was the sound of the plea falling on deaf ears regards Adrian Walls quietly lurking here in Wales ___ List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put unsubscribe MapInfo-L in the message body.

MI-L help in sorting out OS Co-ordinates
I have sourced some UK climate data from a voluntary organisation of UK meteorologists. They have masses of data and I have offered to help them give the stuff some sort of geographic context and encourage them to put at least some of it public domain. my first hurdle is geocoding they have given me a list of weather stations from which I intend to geocode the data. there are 4 fields that interest me 1 and 2 are station name and ID number 3 gives the OS sheet tile ref eg SJ and the 4th is the combined easting and northing co-ordinates. I need to turn this sort of number SJ | 095734 into 309500 | 373400 which is the proper east north Ordnance Survey co-ordinate as understood by mapinfo I have split such numbers before to make 2 columns using excel but only when the tiles where SH and SJ so it was easy to sort those numbers needing a 2 or 3 in front. In this case I don't even know what the values are for the remaining tiles. I am hoping that someone out there can give me a pointer or values to work to although I imagine it is likely some soul out there in the UK land may well have encountered this before and can allow me use of an mbx to knock the job off thanks for any help see you folks Adrian PS UK users dont forget Mapinfo User Group Wales and West meet at the International Pavilion in Llangollen on Thursday 23 Nov 2000 see you there -- ** * _ * * |_|/~\^\_ Adrian Walls, North Wales * * _/_ * :. 14 Tyn Llan,Llanferres,Denbighshire,CH7 5SP, UK * * // |:' [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * - \: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * / : http://www.nwmba.demon.co.uk * * \: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * */ : AOL Instant Message Username : MacMTBman* * __/ : * * /~ :.
