RE: MD: Oldies FM uses minidisc..
BEGIN QUOTE= The music, which is transferred from old 78s on to mini-disk with no loss of sound distortion, is interspersed with phone-ins and occasional health advice. END QUOTE=== By copying the old 78s to MiniDisc, they are able to have the irreplaceable recordings on a format that doesn't deteriorate with repeated play. A lot of these 78s were acoustically recorded direct to disc and often, to get marketable quantities out of these recordings, they had artists performing repeated sessions before arrays of horns. Due to this factor, there are smaller quantities of these recordings in existence. Therefore it is imperative for any radio station who is broadcasting irreplaceable material to archive the irreplaceable material onto a durable medium. Some digital formats such as MiniDisc still retain the "comfort factor" noise floor during copying of the old analogue discs (the 78rpm shellac records made before the 50s and the 33.33rpm and 45rpm vinyl records made since the 50s). MD: off topic- cd burner repair
hi, sorry to be off topic, but the tech knowledge is better here . my cd burner will neither burn a disc, nor read a disc reliably. it is a matushitsu( panasonic) cw- 7502-b ( scsi).it is one year old, and i have burned possibly 500- 600 discs with it. is it just worn out, or can it be serviced or calibrated? can i do this with software, or is there a place i can send it? finally, is it worth repairing? i paid 200.00 US for it last summer. i bought a plextor 4x cd-rw scsi drive this summer for almost the same amount. thanks, Mike Hooker - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: MD: recovering deleted tracks
You didn't say what recorder you have. You have not recorded anything else on that disc, so if you have a machine that can clone TOCs (or you can visit someone who has one and use his/hers), yes. I have a Kenwood DMC-K7R. My manual is in Japanese, so I'm trying to figure out if I can do this... Oh... this must be it. EDIT/AUTO MARK: Name Stamp, Read OK?, Reading, Change MD, Insert MD, TOC Read, Write OK?, Writing!, Complete. I can't read the Japanese commentary but this looks like what you're talking about. Re: MD: Deck and Portable Reliability
Glad to hear it, perhaps I am too jaded by my JE-510 problems. My Sony R50 portable recorder and E40 portable player have both been flawless. Only problem was mechanical disc eject in a car player which was repaired in less than a week under warranty. I get the occasional glitch. I correct it and forget it. MD has been robust for me, and I have been using it since it very first came out. Re: MD: recovering deleted tracks
Jane asked, | Is there anyway to undelete a deleted track? I meant to delete one track | and deleted a whole disc (of live improvised recordings... that I'll never | be able to reproduce). I assume the data is still on the disc since I | haven't recorded anything else... but I don't know if the technology exists | to retrieve it? You didn't say what recorder you have. You have not recorded anything else on that disc, so if you have a machine that can clone TOCs (or you can visit someone who has one and use his/hers), yes. If all the tracks on that disc were mono or all were stereo, record a single track in that mode on another disc that fills the disc, and then clone it to the disc whose tracks were mistakenly deleted. Then redivide and retitle the tracks. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: MZ-E40 / Latest Sony Outlet prices
Many thanks to all who helped with my Sony MZ-E40 question. Now I read in the manual (duh), it does cover this noise that the unit makes: "Note on Mechanical Noise:" "The player gives out mechanical noise while operating, which is caused by the power-saving system of the player and is not a trouble". So the player is working just fine. *** Was in the Sony Outlet store in Kenosha,WI late last week..and I see that they have (or maybe had by now ??) a couple of high end MD decks (ES series) at pretty good prices. These are brand new and not used/returns units. MDS-JA20ES for $ 399.95 MDS-JA3ES for $ 499.95 Who knows why ? I picked up a JA20ES and it is a VERY nice unit. Indeed "Brand New".factory sealed carton. At that time they had a good 10 in stock. Not sure if other Sony outlet stores in the US have these same prices/decks ..I cannot tell you ?? Maybe these models are on the way out ?? Either way..some excellent buys. At least if they are still on sale..could not tell if this was for the week-weekend sale.. etc...did not ask ?? I picked up that MZ-E40 player for (re-furb) for $ 69.95 at that same store.Came with a brand new pair of very minor headphones and the case.
