Re: MD: Copy-Proof CDs (Long)
From: John Chrapowicki Bottom line; why do I want to buy a disc that won't play on my PC, that won't play on my hi-fi system, that I can't transfer to listen to on my portable minidisc player? Actually, I don't think I have anything that one of these discs will play on. The answer is a no-brainer: NO SALE. While I agree 100%, I certainly will buy a number of them...just so I can return them. *I* know they won't play, but I'll still go through the exercise to make a point. :-) Rick. Right on, here in Britain if the product is faulty in any way, and I guess that includes CDs with that "Compact Disc Digital Audio" not playing in any device also with that marking, they can be exchanged or refunded. Well that's what I do anyway. [UK readers comment]- Then again I'm the sort of guy that tunes in to Watchdog every week on TV, and isn't afraid to complain-- even to the point of refunds on used computer software from shops with signs saying they don't! The motto "The customer is always right" is the one to believe in-- and actually I think if V2 produce another SCMS Final disc, we should all buy it, then take it back and demand a refund. And do the same at other shops in our local city. Once V2 realise their high-street sales are suffering they'd have no choice but to come back in line! MD: In-dash MiniDisc players and shuffle-play

Do any of the in-dash MD units provide a "seamless shuffle play" function similar to what the Sony portable MiniDisc unts offer? Re: MD: Exporting MD recordings to PC or Mac
Try the demo version of Cool Edit. I was able to put together one and two meg WAV files with it running under win 95 and a 166 mhz pentium. I think you can download it free at http://tucows.com or maybe http://www.download.com Lescuyer, Thibault wrote: Hi everybody, I would like to know how and with which computers is it possible to import MD recordings ? Re: MD: Stereo or Binaural Mic Recommendations Needed
Hello: Lost_Sailor wrote: go to www.soundprofessionals.com.they are very high quality I believe you can get a basic set of binaural mics for $69!! Mikey While it's true that Sound Professionals provide a decent mic for the money, I believe the mic you're referring to is an AT853 based capsule from Audiotechnica. Actually, our $69 mic is not an Audio technica mic. The $69 mic system uses Panasonic mic elements. And I personally wouldn't want to use the 853 for anything crucial. The AT922 setup they offeer Hmmm...I couldn't find an AT922 on their product listpossibly you are referring to the AT933? is a much better deal since it's a much better performer. Actually, it's performance is exactly the same as the AT853's...it uses most of the same mic elements, so they sound identical when using the elements that they share (Omni, subcardioid, cardioid or hypercardioid elements). The 933 does have one additional element available. the shotgun element, which is very nice for long range recording. He can also make use of more capsule options, including shotgun capsules. The shotgun is the only element that fits on the 933 that does not fit on the 853. All of the other elements are the same. I'm going to buy a set for the shotgun capability (only the shotguns, I've got a much better solution for regular situations). However, what I use to record shows on my DAT is probably the best of the binaurals for the money, I use Oade binaurals which are based on a panasonic capsule and very carefully hand built by the Oade Bros., who've been taping live shows for two decades. You can see them at http://www.oade.com/dat/microphones/micro.html and if you've got questions specific to your situation, you can send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (one of the Principles in the company). Jim's a very honest and approachable guy and will give you very good answers very specifically tailored to your exact circumstances. Point well taken. The Oades are good guys to work with, and their modification that they do to DAT decks is a nice alternative to using a battery box. As a point of interest, to the best of my knowledge, all of the mic of this type (using the Panasonic elements), by the various manufacturers (Core Sound, MarcSounds, Sonic Studios and The Sound Professionals) are also hand made with great attention given to the quality of the finished product. As far as recording experience, I know Len at CS has been taping shows for a very long time. I personally started making live recordings in the early 70's using (gasp!) cassette and reel to reel decks. It still amazes me that my little MD sounds better than my 60 lb reel to reel deck.. ;-) Anyway, I hope this is useful info.. MD: sony 4x deck
Hi. Y'know those new sony 4x CD-MD decks someone mentioned a few days ago? I just saw a a TV ad that explains it all... two guys (roommates?) are in an apartment. one's next to a stereo, the other in the kitchen. the guy in the kitchen throws a burrito into the microwave while the other guy puts a CD and an MD in the deck.you see the display cycling thrugh the time really fast while the music is also going super fast (imagine listening to a tape while it's fast-fowarding). then the display flashes -END-, the guy ejects the disc and says "I Done first. I win" Microwave guy: "yeah so?" MD guy: "So give me the burrito" (microwave guy drops it on the ground on purpose) then sony does this little blurb about how you can record four times faster. If there's anyone that's intrested, i can put your old-fashioned CCs on MD. No money, just send 4 MDs per tape (two to put the tape onto, two for mwe to keep as a payment). BTW, does anybody have the address to Oscar's MiniDisc Media Gallery? what about pics of the new Sony Onyx and new color collection MDs? GTG. Jeffrey Lan---who is the only person in his entire High School that uses MiniDisc, but the fourth in his family to own on (I have a cousin in hawaii with a player (unknown model, probably a sony portie), a cousin in Japan with a japanese R-55, an aunt in Taiwan with a japanese R-50, and i own the american R-50. BTW, my aunt uses it because she's a professional Opera Singer. PS...My school just had a little ceremony to welcome us freshman to the HS. My state (New Jersey)'s governer gave a speech there, so a whole bunch of press people were ther. Re: MD: recording safety?
=== = NB: Over 50% of this message is QUOTED, please = = be more selective when quoting text = === John, Thanks for the info - it looks as though they got it right at last.:-) GB I believe that Sony decks after, and including, the 920 differ from older units in this respect. In my 920, TM recording is also done from the 'Record-standby' mode (you press the AMS knob to initiate it). The MDCP page for this model says "Unit does not spin the disc in record-pause mode (as the JE500 and JE510 do). "I'm pretty certain this information is accurate because when you start TM, it is accompanied by a very slight 'knock' which I assume is the disc spinning up and/or the recording head moving to the disc surface. This does not occur in my 510. Regards, John. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: MD - Sony MXD-D3
I was interested to know if anyone has had any experience with the new Sony MXD-D3? This is the new combined CD-MD deck that copies CDs at 4x normal speed. They have just been released here in Australia (RRP AUD999 - but I've found one for $800) and the dealers are claiming it has increased reliability over the D1 and D2. I'd be interested in any thoughts on whether this unit would be a god buy.
