MD: Tip for JVC XM-R70 users

2001-07-24 Thread VANBALEN DAVID

I read many people complaining of low sound level with this portable unit.

I solved the problem by replacing the provided (poor quality) earphone with
a Sony MDR-E811.

Try this out (any near-equivalent will do), you will hear a significant
enhancement in both sound level and clarity.

By the way, still no way to enter service/test mode and TOC cloning with
this unit or the JVC XM-228 ?

David Van Balen.

MD: NetMD

2001-07-24 Thread Wil Harris

Hey there, I'm new to the list and I have a couple of questions about NetMD
:)

Firstly, I was reading the press release - when they say that NetMD will be
backwards compatible with older minidiscs, do they mean that old MD
recordings will play on new NetMD portables, or that NetMD recordings wil
play on old MD portables, or that a NetMD addon will be available for older
units, or all 3? It seemed a bit ambiguous to me! I realy need to buy an
MD unit now, but I don't want to get one and have to buy another expensive
unit in just a few months time.

MD: Sony ECM-MS957 mic

2001-07-24 Thread heddy Boubaker

 hi,

I'm looking for a very good mic, mainly to record live music, to use with my
brand new MD recorder. I tested many but with no great success but from reading
technical specs the MS957 seems to be a very good one for my needs (the AT822
is more expensive and seems to be technically equivalent) so I'm looking for
any advice from enlightened users of this mailing-list ;-)

BTW this mic is almost impossible to find now in France and I'm eventually
considering to order it online, does anybody could recommend me any serious
online-store that ship to France please.

 Thanks in advance, sincerely

I have one of those mics. It does a very good job of picking up whatever
it's recording. (I've used it for recording the orchestra I play with.) It
comes with a bag for the mic and its accessories. It also comes with a very
nice tabletop mic stand. My biggest problem with it is that it's a fairly
fat mic and I have to make sure it fits in any mic clips that I buy.

It's really funny seeing the mic set up next to my MZ-R900. It's so much
bigger than the recorder itself. :-)

MD: HHB MDP500 Problems

2001-07-24 Thread Donovan Wallace

My HHB MDP500 will infrequently lock-up in any mode, most in often in
record mode.
The unit will not respond to any front panel key sequence while locked
up. The only remedy
is to remove power and remove the battery pack to shut down the unit.
After this it behaves
fine but the recordings may be messed up. I experienced this with 2
brand new units received
from HHB Canada both with Version 1.2 software.

The response I received from HHB Canada was that neither they nor anyone
in the UK head office
has heard of this problem before.

Recently, I've made contact with another MDP500 owner who has
experienced the same problems.

Note that since buying this deck I have only used it approx 6 times so I
would say the problem is not
too rare.

Re: MD: Sony ECM-MS957 mic

2001-07-24 Thread Stilson Snow

I'm new to MD and to the list. The main reason I got my MD was to record
the steel orchestra I play in, both rehearsals and gigs, so I'm also looking
for a decent affordable mic.

Since this is an all percussion band (with a wide frequency range) would any
of these mics serve? And, not to appear too stupid, but being a newbie
here, I am pretty ignorant: what brands of mics are these and are there any
links available?

Thanks,
Stilson Snow

Re: MD: NetMD

2001-07-24 Thread Jeffrey Scorsone

  ===

I believe based on the information provided in the pressrelease, that by
backwards compatible they mean: Older units will be able to play recordings
made on the newer NetMD stuff as well as older recordings will play on the
newer machines. Older machines will not be able to take advantage of the NetMD
features and I highly doubt there will be a hardware addon (unless there are
some really good hackers out there with a lot of time on their hands) for older
units to take advantage of the higher transfer speeds. They did mention that
as far as recordings go, it will be ilke it is today. If something is encoded
in MDLP, it can only be played back on an MDLP capable player/recorder. but SP
will still work on all machines.

Hope this helps
