MD: Calling all Jvc XM-R70 owners

2001-10-01 Thread Gerard Naude

Hi all. Hope someone can help me with his:

I have a Jcv Xm-R70. It is a great unit and I have had it for quite a while
now. The pop-up cover for this unit is a bit stpid. This is my problem.
It has been ok until recently when I press buttons on the cover, the unit
starts reading the toc again. This is because the sensor for the cover gets
triggered. It detects that the cover is quickly opened and shut again. Has
anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?

Thanks

Gerard.

My stupid ISP decided it needed a new address. I will try to get it up
at a lycos or geocities site so it won't change. I'll be working on it
this week.

 Hi Jim,

Your page seems to be missing. Any idea what's wrong?

This is a bit off-topic, but have you guys checked out dollarhost?
(www.dollarhost.com). They seem like an excellent cheap solution and
they've been around for a while. I'm teetering towards getting a domain and
having them host it there.

I feel your pain. In the past 6 years, I've been through 6 ISPs! They
keep getting bought, or sold, or just change their name to something
hip It's utter nonsense. Now I just accept the annual ISP change.

MD: MD v DAT

2001-10-01 Thread matt . smal

Hi,

I own a CDR deck, MD deck portable but the one thing I can't do with all this is
record a continous 2 or 3 hr FM radio broadcast (and later one day from DAB). OK, my
MD gear both have MDLP but I'm after quality rather than convenience. LP4 is rubbish
and LP2 is very listenable, but as others have said, only really for personal/in car
use. I'm therefore considering a DAT personal. (I can get an Aiwa HD-S200 for UKP150).
I'd be interested in comparions of DAT with MD if anyone has experience.
How does taping compare ? Editing is not really an issue. I'm after the ability to
make continuous long recordings of 2 or 4 hr length.

cheers
Matt

MD: OT: Domain Name Registration (was Field Recording)

Mike:

www.godaddy.com has cheaper registration costs (about 1/2 the cost), but
higher hosting costs. You can register your domain name anywhere and have it
transferred to your hosting company.

MD: JE-510 grinding.

2001-10-01 Thread Churchill, Guy

Yes, I've contracted the dreaded JE-510 grinding bug (which
I believe is a hangover from the turn on bug).

The disc won't eject all the way (just sits there grinding)
and then goes back in again.

After removing the cover I can see the cog that is slipping
against the other one (causing the sound). The disc is now
out, but the grinding continues (just by turning the power
on).

For those who had the same problem does the method used to
fix the turn-on bug, also help fix the eject problem? Nothing
appears to be broken/snapped (yet).

The good news is I've convinced my girlfriend that it's
broken and we'll just have to buy a new deck. :) So
your probably asking .. why bother fixing the JE-510?
Well, I'd like to try and fix it first.

Cheers GuyC
