Re: MD: HELP needed for Sony MDS-PC3 and PC Link

2001-03-10 Thread Jen Wood

is it possible that you need the japanese version of windows to run the
software? Try poking around on the web and seeing if you can download the
dlls that only come with the asian windows packages.
http://www.japansh.com/hintstips.htm has some stuff listed but I didn't
spend a lot of time searching so try at your own risk.

I tried everything already... win98SE, ME, and 2000... and none of them
 works... any ideas?

Perhaps... but... what OS are you running?

Re: MD: Best buy, phasing out MD equip ??

2001-02-13 Thread Jen Wood

Not that this is on topic or anything but around 2k is pretty standard if
you are building a fairly cutting edge system (not exceptional). My last
(spring 2000) was just over 2k (not including monitor/printer/etc..) 500
might be ok for a out of the box cookie cutter non upgradable sortof web
surfing/word processing system. Unfortunately those systems tend to leave
you stranded in about a year if you are trying to do anything more demanding
with them. For those of us who do gaming/development spending 1-2k every two
years or so is pretty much a given.

closer to $2000 for a good system.

Not to be nit-picky, but where'd you get these prices? Those are about
twice what you should be paying.

But I agree, it's still far more expensive.

Re: MD: Sony E500 vs. E700 vs. E900

2001-01-12 Thread Jen Wood

For serious listening or recording maybe, but when I bought my md player
(sharp mt77) I wanted something that could fill the role of a portable mp3
player but have the benifits of a tape/cd portable(like not having to spend
an arm and a leg on additional storage) without being as bulky. There was
the added benifit of knowing that mds had been around for a while so I
probably wasn't going to see a new line come out the week after I bought my
unit with 200% improvement over the old stuff. *grumble grumble stupid tech
industry*

Anyway I havent noticed any reason why LP2 isnt good enough for 90% of my
day to day (aka non serious) use. Maybe LP4 would be good for that long
noisy bus ride, but LP2 seems fine for a jog in the park or a car trip or
just bumming around listening to music.

-Jen

I guess it would sound good if you always listened to it in heavy
traffic riding on the bus. I think for serious listening or recording,
you are better off with standard MD.

Some infidels look down on MD as inferior because it uses ATRAC in the
first place, can you imagine their comments on the new LP stuff. "Wow,
have you heard those MD recorders? They sure play a long time but the
 sound is crap!"

Just my humble opinion of course. I'll stick to regular MD any time.

I have recorded on my R30 and got a copy that was good enough to submit
for a CD compilation, and so have a lot of other people. I'm sure they
won't be able to do that with the LP mode.

Re: MD: PS/2 compatible keyboard?

2001-01-03 Thread Jen Wood

ok, heres a little info that I pulled off the net (I figured my 'big bad,
small good' explanation needed a little help^^):

"Keyboard connectors come in two different styles. The older one is the
large 5-pin DIN connector, and the newer one is the smaller 6-pin mini-DIN
connector (also called "PS/2-style" for the IBM system that introduced it).
The two types are electrically compatible and you can attach an adapter to
allow the use of one style on a PC that requires the other. (Note that this
is not always true for PS/2 style mice that use an identical 6-pin
connector)."

Any pc keyboard that is fairly recent should be fine. If on the off chance
you do have one of the old ones kicking around the adaptors are pretty cheap
and I think easy to come by. (sorry, I dont really know exact years)

-Jen

My home MD deck allows for titling via a PS/2 compatible keyboard. Since
I have a Mac, I'm not sure what this actually means. Will any keyboard
that works with a Windows computer work with my MD deck?

  Thanks!
I would think that any keyboard who's plug fits the slot would work. Then
again, I'm using a Mac now so I could be wrong. :)
