MD: Sample Rate conversion

2001-03-03 Thread lpsweers

In response to the questions generated by my posting about resampling. We
oversample the input signal at a very high rate (we place samples in
between two regular samples). The larger total number of samples fills in
the gaps (interpolation process). Internally the sample rate becomes
3.2768 GHz. After this point, the signal is put through a variable low
pass filter to insure the correct aliaising limit is used. Finally the
signal is divided (decimation process) until the desired sample rate
established for the output signal. The large amount of oversampling
allows accurate operation over then entire audio frequency.

MD: Digital Conversion

2001-03-02 Thread lpsweers

Hello everyone. As most of you may know, 44.1 kHz is the standard
sampling frequency for CD and MD recording. Also note that 32 kHz is
used in satellite and digital radio broadcasts, as well as employed in
long play modes for DAT recorders. We are expanding our business very
soon to include digital recording services from DAT to MD, MD to DAT, and
DAT to DAT. Our services will allow 48 kHz digital recordings to be
converted to 44.1 kHz (CD standard) or 32 kHz (Satellite and Digital
Radio Broadcast standard). All of the resampling will occur flawlessly in
the digital domain without analog conversion in any of the transfer. At
the our clients choice, we will be able to remove SCMS limitations so
that recording artists may allow their music to be spread without
generational losses. We will shortly announce these capabilities on our
web page when they become available.

And... we still offer digital connectivity solutions to the home
recording enthusiast.

Thank You very much for your time.

Subject: MD: Looking for a cable to connect internal S/PDIF from
 CD/DVD
 to sound card.

I'm taking a long, hard look at the Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo
 sound
card. The unit has the external optical S/PDIF output, and their
 support
told me that internally has a 2 pin digital input, which they say
 will
match with the 2 pin digital audio output on the back of most
 internal
 CD-ROM and DVD drives.

Unfortunately, the card does not come packaged with any
 cabling...either
TOSLINK or an internal S/PDIF connector cable.

So, I'm looking for a source for a cable to connect the digital
 output of
the CD to the digital input on the card. Can anyone point me at a
vendor, or a vendor's web site?

Re: MD: Family Archives on Minidisc

1999-11-29 Thread lpsweers

My thoughts on recording family members:
I have recorded my Daughter on many occasions using Binaural Microphones.
It is amazing how she has changed since the first recordings. It is well
worth the time. My MD unit has a time stamp which is a nice additions.
Since then she has listened to her temper tantrums and understood why
they are not the thing to do when upset.

Re: MD: TOSLink protective caps on sockets

1999-09-25 Thread lpsweers

You can always put a small hole through the toslink cap and attach a
piece of fishing wire to it. Attach the other end of the fishing wire to
the chassis of the audio equipment. When you are using the toslink unit
the cap is hanging by the fishing wire.

Re: MD: Problems with Minidisco

Dispute the charge with the Credit Card company. Make them work for you.
It is in the service agreement. No goods should not require payment.
Watch out for restocking charges. Hold on to all of your records. Keep in
mind that they may have removed the charge already. It takes time for it
to go through. Best of luck. This is not like Minidisco.

Re: MD: Additional cooling

1999-07-24 Thread lpsweers

I have been using cooling fans on my AMP due to Heat as well. I purchased
two 12 volt fans from an electronics suplus store. The fans are noisy
when mounted flush with the top of the grill on top of the amp. I used
q-tip heads to raise the fans about 5 mm in order to reduce the noise.
The fans turn on when the Stereo comes on. They are powered by my
equalizer's 120output. I used a 120 to 12 v DC transformer to bring the
voltage down. I am surprised that most amps do not have fans. I guess the
manufacturers are more interested in cutting costs. The fans definately
help. I had thermal problems in Texas because the amp was on the sunny
side of my house. The fans resolved the thermal problem by moving the
heat away.
