MD: MD Boombox Second

for sale in the U.S., which is just mind-boggling. Why don't the
manufacturers meet this need?"

I second this...I would love to be able to find an MD boombox at a reasonable
price and there is nothing in the MD-backward US.

MD: MD Boombox

2000-06-11 Thread DoctorWu51

"this may be a dumb question, buy why not order one from asia or outside the
us from somewhere that does carry them?"

In answer to your question, I'm looking for recommendations about places
where I can buy a boombox. I haven't purchased anything form an overseas
vendor, and I thought maybe someone on the list would recommend one, or knew
of a vendor in the US that carried these.

MD: MD boombox?

2000-04-02 Thread goobster

I'm looking for a CD/MD/cassette boombox and all
models I could find were in $400 price rage. If anyone
knows of a lower-cost colution (within $200 - it's a
*boombox*, after all), please let me know.

Thanks,

Hi Rick,

You may be right. I assumed that since Sony's press release called the
ZS-M35 a "portable" unit, it would be battery powered. If it's not, the
marketing geniuses at Sony need to have their collective noggins examined
for calling an AC-powered stereo a portable unit. Or maybe it comes with a
verry long power cord. ;-)

I ask again, just to hear the sound of my own whinig: Why hasn't Sony made a
real U.S.-spec battery-powered boombox? Am I the only person in the world
who enjoys listening to ambient music at the beach, in a hotel room, by the
pool, etc? This really is unforgivable. MD was introduced eight years ago
-- surely the format is mature enough for a product I would have expected by
the third generation. It really is a no-brainer.

Take care,

Dale

YOU'RE NOT KIDDING!! It absolutely baffles me that is so hard to find an MD
boombox that runs on batteries. Doesn't it also make sense they would make
a boombox that was a player-only, to reduce the cost? It is obvious that
none of the manufacturers think of boomboxes as extra units people use to
take places and not their primary home machine. I think it's cool they make
multi-speed dubbing boomboxes but really, is that necessary?

Sigh...this is so ridiculous.

Jim

Dicky,

Sony finally plans on releasing a proper boombox in the U.S. this spring
(and by "Boombox," I mean a battery-powered unit with a handle; an
AC-powered shelf system is _not-not-not_ a boombox in my book!). I wonder
why it's taken so long for Sony to meet this need? To me this has always
been a frustrating hole in the product offerings.

From a recent Sony-U.S. press release:

High-Speed Dubbing Hits the Road with VCR-Like Programming Capabilities

Sony¹s first portable MD boombox (model ZS-M35) cuts CD-to-MD dubbing time
in half for consumers who enjoy making their own mixes.

With high-tech styling that fits into an office or dorm room, the compact,
black and silver boombox features one-touch CD-to-MD recording, CD text
transfer and synchro recording.

The ZS-M35 includes an AM/FM digital tuner with 20 station presets, Remote
Commander® remote control and a Mega Bass® sound system. It also has a
built-in clock with a sleep timer, which functions like an alarm clock, and
timer recording capability, which allows MD recording to start and stop at
predetermined times.

The ZS-M35 will be available in April 2000 for approximately $350.

Also, I am a Mac user myself, so please let me know what you find out re: MD
dubbing to CD via your Mac desktop.

Sony makes a book shelf stereo that has a minidisc in the top. Available at
 best buy.

Thanks. But I mean portable with a handle, like the common CD/radio
combinations. CD/MD would be fab.

Is this a lost cause?

Okay...I see what's available. (Thanks Chuck!)

The question now is, what can I get in the US and what's the best deal?

Does anyone out there actually OWN a MD boombox who can give some insight?

Thanks.

Re: MD: MD boombox recommendations?

1999-09-16 Thread Tugrul Tanyol

Joe,
Last month I bought Aiwa CSDMD50 from JR @ New York. Shelf price was
$339.99, but they let me buy it for $315. I had the opportunity to examine
it a bit before leaving it with my son in his dorm room. It is indeed a very
nice unit. As you might have seen from its pictures, the CD player and the
MD recorder are side by side on the lower side, whereas the tuner and the
cassette tape are on the upper side. A very nice design, the display panel
is very attractive, opens to reveal the cassette tape. 3 Preset Equalizer
(Rock/Pop/Jazz) and a Q Surround mode which is amazingly good. CD syncro
recording works like a dream with a single button push. The sound is loud
and rich.

I really recommend this unit, especially if you also need a cassette
recorder.

regards,

Tugrul Tanyol

I'm looking for a boombox or mini shelf system with a CD player and MD
recorder/player. I want to be able to record digitally from CD to MD
and from CD and internal MD to an external MD or DAT machine, also
digitally. Ideally, it should also have a cassette capability. It's
got to be capable of good recording quality; the sound of the unit
through it's own speakers is less important.

I've been looking at the following models:

 Aiwa XRMD95
 Aiwa CSDMD50
 Sanyo MDC3100
 Casio MDH-1

Does anyone have any experience with these or other models?
