MD: screws

2000-12-26 Thread Charles Redell

Hi,

Does anyone know where or how I can get replacement screws for my Sharp
MD MS 722 body? One of the ones on the side (near the wrist strap
holder) seems to have fallen out and the unit's case is now squeezable.
Great for toilet paper, bad for MD recorders!

Please don't tell me to check my local hardware store... that's what I'm
trying to avoid as they will just hack it with a missized screw or
something to that affect to "make it work". I want to know if there is
there an official source for this sort of thing.

Thanks!
charlie

Go to an eyeglass shop...I've found the little ones that use the
flathead screws work just fine on my MD-MT15.

I suggest a jewellers or an opticians, they often have these very small
screws or know where you can get them. If not then give Sharp a call.

Don't worry about it - all Sharp 702s lose a screw. Mine did about
18 months ago, and it has never given me any cause for concern :-)

Ok then - nearly all 702s lose a screw, especially once you've taken it
apart once!

Re: MD: Screws on Sharp 702

2000-03-28 Thread Richard Wright

My mate's Sony Walkman used to lose screws for a pastime. He kept taking it
into the local Sony Centre and they'd always give him more screws. He got a
little annoyed when they wanted to charge him a pound each for them once it
was outside warranty! After a bit of argument he got them for free...

After this, we took all the screws out and put Loctite thread-locker on
them before putting them back in. No more fell out after that :-)
Unfortunately, the whole unit just went crazy a few weeks later and would
only play tapes after about the 6th attempt so he sold it to someone for a
pint of beer and bought himself a Sharp 831.

I'd get worried if my 722 lost screws - after all, they're not just for
decoration you know!

Try your local Sony Centre or similar. They may be able to help you. Or not...

Maybe you need to put Locktite on them or some fingernail polish.

If you have a blue recorder, the red always stands ou nicely. It is a
little hard to focus on the line where the red polish and the bule meet
though. Makes sort of a purple color, like when they put the blue dots
in the middle of a red tail light on a car.

You could always try green... you never know - it might even improve the

No, I think you need 24 carat gold nail polish to improve the sound
quality. When you order the screws, make sure they have diamond encrusted
heads for improved battery life (or something).

I'm not sure about the thread-locking capabilities of nail polish, but it's
worth a giggle :-)

Alternatively, Loctite 501 Threadlocker comes in a red bottle, but the
liquid itself is blue. Strange stuff - only sets hard in the absence of air
(ie. inside a screw thread). You should be able to get it from an
electronics supplier. Just make damn sure you don't leave your pet hamster
inside the unit when you put the screws back in.
