Cool. I got all of the banned list moved over(not that y'all care).
After I get some parts shipping out I will start working on moving all
the other lists over. Of course I bet by then the real lists will be
back up(not holding my breath).

Could be a shorted plug (that will result in a resistace reading of
below 0.5 ohms, but to most meters, that's not much different than 0.5
ohms), a shorted wire to the plug, or that you got some 30 or 50 A fuses
rather than 80 A.

A plug can short. If you disconnect all the plugs and then measure to see
how much each draws with an ammeter you'll find the shorted one. I don't
know if the SDL has more than 80 amps for a fuse but whatever it is divide
that by 6 and each plug shuld draw less than that.

I realized I may have made a mistake here.
My 617 plugs draw a bit over 20 amps when cold,

Marshall Booth wrote:

All the Mercedes diesels that use parallel plugs and have a fuse use the
same 80 A fuse whether there are 4, 5 or 6 plugs. All of the plugs have
identical electrical requirements - a 12V supply (that will drop to 11V
or a little less when the plugs are first energized because of the high
current and the voltage drop across the battery itself and the
connecting wires). Initial current for each plug should exceed 20 A for
the first few milliseconds but will quickly drop to less than 15 A and
by 20-30 sec should drop to 8-10A. Shorted plugs are possible (I've only
heard of a few) but shorted wiring is MUCH more common (wires pinched to
the clips, bracket or intake manifold or terminals rotated so they touch
something they shouldn't). When plugs fail, they much more commonly
open, not short. The resistance of every good Bosch or Beru parallel
plug I've ever seen was 0.6 ohms when at ambient temperatures. There is
a TINY chance that a plug could measure 0.6 ohms but short (and the
resistance drop) as it heated up.

Re: [MBZ] 1992 300SD radiator

2005-06-13 Thread Marshall Booth
Before you repair/replace the radiator, be SURE the motor and
transmission mounts have not collapsed - that's the cause of MANY of the
upper hose connections breaking (from excess stress on the upper hose
connection) and while the new radiator might not fail immediately, it
WILL fail prematurely if the engine isn't sitting as it should!

Reseda radiator was for MANY years the most reliable rebuilder and also
a good source for new, but I can't find a web address or Star listing
anymore. Phone is (818) 345-6276 or (818) 342-5154.

You can also try [EMAIL PROTECTED] but I don't think it works

Allan,
Any 1/2 ton full size truck will handle your towing specs with ease.

Personally, I like the new F-150 interior for passenger car duty. It is
really nice.

While I like the looks of the Dodge the best, I still question the build
quality and their transmissions.

The Chev/GMC appears to be the best value right now due to the employee
discount pricing but the interiors are outdated.

These are just my opinions and refer to gas models only.

Have fun shopping around,

In the market for a used pickup truck. Must have 4 doors, a/k/a quad
 cab or crew cab.

Looking at Dodge 1500, Ford F150, might consider a mid-size but probably
too small. No diesels (sorry) per the better half.

Must be able to tow up to 3,000 lbs without issue, and accomodate 3 kids
in the back, two in car seats.

 Thoughts?

I'd like to get something under 15K. There's an '01 F150 XLT at a local
lot here, $12.9 but 94K miles. To me that should be under $10K with
 that many miles.

 Is the Triton V8 reliable?

How much you looking to spend?
A new Dodge with 6 cylinder/6 speed starts at about $19k, more like 19.8
w/auto.
The surprising thing is they all get about the same EPA ratings (15/20)
whether
V6 or V8. A crew cab Chevy or Ford is going to be at least $21k new,
something
to keep in mind when looking at late model used trucks.

My Uncle took a side vent swamp cooler, put big casters on the bottom, and
a funnel to fill it up with water. Works great, except during the
monsoon season... Can roll it around and have it blow directly on you
even..

John

How about 105 degree F w/40%??? ... I'm thinking of putting a ceiling
fan in my garage. Nothin' fancy, just make the air move and evaporate the
body fluids, so you can get a chill now and then

So perhaps something like an Explorer SportTrack might be more negotiable?

Re: [MBZ] How to turn up OM617 full-load fuel delivery

2005-06-13 Thread Chuck Landenberger

Dave,

In 1991, at a Tech Session of the Greater Washington Section, Norbert
Lamp (President at the time of GWS and Master Tech at HBL Mercedes in
Tyson's Corner, VA) did just this to my car. He worked w/the car on a
lift... Must easier than from the top side. He removed the oil filter
housing to get at the back of the IP. Took him 4 times to get it where
he was happy. He test drove it and left the shifter in the 2
position.. Ran it up to 5,200 rpms and smiled. Been runnin' like a
champ ever since.

Only timing chain replacements and valve adjustments. Never been
opened and original turbo, IP, injectors and trans. Odo is now 338,000
.. And I'm seriously considering driving to the GWS Tri-O-Rama
event at Virginia International Raceway w/this lovely Old Girl.

A picture of the Old Girl at a recent autocross here in Scottsdale,
AZ is attached. Will be stripped from MBZ posting.

Take care,
