Re: [MBZ] Steering column lock 82TDt
Has anyone "studied" the workings of the steering column locking mechanism? I have replaced the lock cylinder but the steering column lock binds when the wheel is in a certain position. Once you hear that sliding shaft click into place you know it will be hard to release it. Turning the steering wheel to the right releases it enough to allow the key to turn the cylinger but sometimes it takes a heavy hand. Because of a problem with her right hand my wife cannot manage to do this at times. I have a junk lock and have taken it apart so that I can see how it works and have concluded that there are several parts that could cause the system to bind. Is there any one part that usually causes this? I'm wondering about cutting off the end of the sliding or taking it out. I would rather fix it. I would appreciate any ideas

Yes it looks like a diesel. It's just a non turbo that's all. It also has the old style SLS pump on the head instead of a tandem ps pump/SLS. Maybe it doesn't have power steering They also have a BMW (ugh) 324 station wagon. Nice looking but no good at all for loading because the tailgate area is way too teensy to move big stuff in and out of like I need to. i used my shop vac to clean the deck of my boat the other day and the static electricity was more than annoying...almost constant...the boat was on a trailer and not grounded... here in spokane, two toddlers were severly burned while playing on their outdoor plastic slide...the two, 3 &4, had poured gasoline on the slide to make it slick (who knows where they got it), and after much investigation, the fire guys cited static electricity as the flash point... be carefull with those gas cans in the back of your rig while filling---take them out and put them on the ground.

The ONLY year that a 124 diesel wagon was imported to the US by MBUSA was 1987. Any 124 TD diesel in the US wagon other than an '87 with the OM603.96 engine is a gray market car. There were lots of 124 diesel wagons sold in other parts of the world - with OM601, 602 and 603 engines - some turbo but most naturally aspirated. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.) Re: [MBZ] Biodiesel Usage Report - The Reality
A little gasoline will NOT reliably kill algae (and it's a poor anti-gel - use REAL anti-gel - Mercedes stopped recommending gasoline more than 20 years ago). Making sure you regularly remove ALL the water in the fuel (water condenses out of the air in the less than full tank EVERY time the ambient temperature drops below the dew point of the air) will prevent algae - the algae lives in the water and EATS the fuel. Algae can't survive/grow if there is NO water in the fuel. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.) You will need to run the tank as low as you can (the screen will plug again as it gets really low), then drain completely and remove the tank and have it cleaned. Install a new screen, and you will be home free. In the mean time, carry several pre-filters and a new main filter, you are likely to have plugging problems until you get the tank cleaned. Black crud collecting in the prefilter is a sure sign of algae in the tank One of the stations in Mt. Vernon has biodiesel, I think I'll get some next fillup. Apparently the seller is full of sh*t. I asked him at least twice if he was sure it was a 4 cylinder, if he was sure it was an 86, if he was sure it was the original engine. He said yes to all, and even got a little indignant. Wonder if his other claims are equally accurate. He claims it's a rare model--one of only 200 made. I thought the 4 cylinder ended in 1985. Does anyone have info on this? Ask for the VIN number. That will settle it. There were 201.122s sold in Europe in 1986, but NO 201.122s were imported to the US after 1985. All of the US 201.122 used 601.921 2.2 liter engines. All of the European 201.122s used the 2 liter 601.91x engine with the same hp rating and slightly less torque. I have an 85 201.122 with the 2 liter 601.91 engines. NICE economical car (40-44 mpg hi

[MBZ] 113 Chassis parts on Ebay
Group, I have a lot of 113 parts that some of you may be interested in. I know the majority of the listners out there are diesel nuts ( as am I ) but wanted the few 113 owners to know that this stuff is going on Ebay under MBZ280. Most of it is used, from a rusted out car that was taken apart here recently. Take a look, you might find that odd part you have been after for a while (c: Richard __ Yahoo! This guy is like a blackmailer, if you jump at the price increase he will just do it again, or do something else stupid. That sort of behaviour is not normal. He may be just a harmless oddball, when all is said and done, but there are easier ways to buy a car. I learned years ago never to deal with people I don't take to, when either buying or selling. Mac

Maybe I can offer him Kelly Blue Book Private Party for it to soften him up for you? $655 according to KBB.com for 150k, good condition, well loaded. If he balks, I'll offer him $200 and tell him blue book trade in is $213. If the above it too outlandish, I can offer him $1500, KBB dealer retail on a perfect car is $1535 with 150k on it. Then I can remind him he isn't selling some rare exotic, he's selling a 20 year old, $25k car. What does he think a 20 year old Caprice or Silverado is worth? http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ur?kbb.MI;664657;MI045&48813;+p&722;Mercedes-Benz;1986%20190D&20;MB;A1&&&;
