A cell phone ban while driving will never work unless the car manufacturers
start installing signal blocking devices or materials of some sort to make
them not work in cars. They are banned here in Ny and I even see the State
troopers ride by talking on the phone.

thanks to all for info on valve adjustment. I look forward to tackling it.

really want to remove it entirely. Dave M posted a link to the

not.

Chances are they just have a database that links aproximate physical
location with IP number a assigned by your ISP.

Linux still uses IP numbers...

Re: [MBZ] Cup Holder for 1995 E320

2005-11-11 Thread Dave M.
There's always the fold-up kind that bolt to the door panel. They work
great, look decent, but I still don't like drilling holes to mount
them. I've also seen them mounted in the center console under the arm
rest, which is nice for some chassis (works on W123, early W124,
probably some others too). Performance Products sells them, Rusty
might also sell them - I'm not sure.

Re: [MBZ] E36 KMAC Camber Plates

2005-11-11 Thread Dave M.
I'm pretty sure this is very different than the K-mac bushing kit. The
camber plates for struts are a totally different item than the
eccentric bushings. Also note that E36 is a BMW chassis, similar to
Mercedes 'W124'... not to be confused with the W124 AMG model 'E36'
that was sold in Europe.

Some pictuers of the failed camber plates would be nice, though!

For reference, photos of the K-Mac eccentric camber bushings are here:

I need one for a 603 and 617.

I will talk to my friends and am almost certain that we will take, in
addition, 3 more for a 617.

  do 616's have EGR's? don't think they do...if so, we'll be adding another 3.

Please let me know on the 616 and I will check with my friends and will give

  GREAT! Down with the EGR!

[MBZ] Crap - need paint

2005-11-11 Thread Lee Levitt
I encouraged the badges on the rear of my sedan to fall off. Normally a
little solvent and a bit of polishing compound is sufficient to clean up
what's leftbut not in this case.

Looks like the PO had the trunk painted at some point, and there's paint
build up where the letters were. Lots of it...mounds of it.

So it looks like I'm going to have to sand and repaint those two areas on
the trunk. Anyone know where I can get Mercedes paint in a spray can?

Or do I need to get it custom blended?

Thanks!

I saw this in a magazine -- a low-priced powder coating sprayer from
Sears, has 20 diff colors in spray-can type cartridges. You need an old
oven to bake the stuff in. I recall someone a year or so ago was doing
powder coating but I think the equipment was somewhat pricey. This
might be a nice way to do up the old banged-up bundt wheels and other
parts.

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=SEARS&pid=00917288000

I also saw in a mag (and I think at Lowes) this new universal
wrench-type deal that has 6 sliding jaws in it, you put it over a nut
and squeeze it like pliers, which tightens the jaws against the nut.
Fits various size nuts, and works well on rounded-off nuts. Looked
well-built. I might have to get one.

I use one of those cup holders in my '95 E300D. But I knocked it around too
much with my arms when it was hooked on the door.
It seems to work well hooked on the right side of the console, so the cup
hangs just in front of the lefts side of the passenger seat.
The cup holder hangs kind of loose there, but it only falls off about once
per year during a panic stop or sudden turn.

[MBZ] Cup holder

2005-11-11 Thread BillR
Mercedes in all their wisdom forgot one extremely important thing, a coffee
cup holder.

I bought one of the plywood ones on eBay that fits into the space under the
arm rest on my '81 SD. It does fit nicely, but the placement is so awkward
that I have never been able to use it. I don't recommend it.

I would stay away from the KMAC camber plates. I had them on my car
for 10,000 miles with stock shocks & springs
and both sides failed. I lifted the car up to change the brakes
before a track session and both struts dropped out of the
strut hats. The parts that mounted to the car stayed attached with
the car and the struts pulled out of the polyurethane.

I contacted KMAC and never got a response.

I have pictures if anyone wants to see them.

Hope this keeps someone from making a mistake,

Relative to stock, how noisey are the KMAC camber plates? Are they a good

can you go with stock strut bearings and simply re-align toe to spec?

Although I liked the big Buicks I was more partial to the late 60's early 70's
Chryslers. My ideal pimpmobile was a 69 Chrysler Imperial my grandfather had.
Nothing but yards of chrome, leather and a big block 440 that sounded like a
freight train when you floored it

This guy is good. I have an ISP out of Des Moines. But I am an hour
northwest in a town of 5000. This has it narrowed down to a zip code! ... I
want to choke him, but I am definitely impressed from a computer-geek
standpoint. ... The IP is assigned to the local telephone company, so maybe
that is how the algorithm is designed. But even if that is the case, he is
good and has a huge database.

Uh ... maybe we should take this to the Linux side of the party? Those are
the only guys who know what we are talking about anyway.

I just finished watching it, the 2005 version. It's not a terribly
uplifting movie, but I liked it even moreso because of that. But then,
the 1996 version wasn't uplifting either, and both dealt with car
crashes. I like the first one though because it was filmed in my
stomping grounds, and Holly Hunter bares all...

At 1:00:20 (or so), there is a very good shot of a Palamino W123 300TD

My brother had one, either a '72 or '73, with 455 4bbl. One 0-60 run would
drop the fuel gauge about one needle width. I believe it got over 15mpg on
the highway though. Must have had a tall final drive.

Sure sounds like a tire if swapping tires cures it. Almost all of my
experience is that if the car pulls in one direction, without other
symptoms, it's rarely the tire. If the pull follows the tire, however,
then even if tires usually don't cause the problem, I'd indict the
tire/wheel.
