Re: [MBZ] Best way to trouble shoot window, 1979 240D
There are 2 big rivets holding the raising arm to the gear that the motor turns. I had one rivet shear, the arm flopped, no action. Took it apart, fixed it with a bolt (had to do some grinding on the head for clearance), has held now for 3 or 4 years. --R [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Now that weather is getting better time to fix my window that went plop this winter. I have never pulled one using a leveler, maybe I should get one. OK Don wrote: I'm on Richard's level -done a few, and both ways. I now leave the tranny on the engine - pull them as a unit. I've only done 115/617 and 107/117 chassis though. My cheap Chinese hoist and leveler worked fine with the iron 117 V8 and it's tranny. That leveler is really nice to work with compared to doing the job with out it. I found the 115 with the five cylinder engine to be easier with the rear of the car up as high as I could get it - but that was before I got the leveler. Splitting the engine/tranny after they're out is easy - spin the engine around so the tranny is pointing away from the hoist, set the engine down on blocks of some sort, leaving tension on the hoist chain for extra stability, a chunk of 2X12 on top of a floor jack and under the tranny pan - a helper to keep the tranny from rolling of the floor jack -- unbolt and roll away --- -- Kaleb C. The track could come unbolted from the lift, the window could come 'unglued' from its bracket, the pivot pin could have broken out of its slider, etc... Yes, the sun will rise IN the East (generally to the East) tomorrow, as it alwasys does, but not DUE EAST (true bearing 090 degrees). Tomorrow, the sun will be directly overhead at the equater - sun's subpoint on the equater - sun's declination = 0 degrees. At sunrise, sun will be DUE EAST only for those on the equator. [MBZ] Question about changing the gasket on driver's door
So I started Saturday to replace the driver's door gasket, which I had ordered about 6 months ago from Rusty. The installation of the gasket in its groove went much easier with a little glycerin rubbed on the gasket. The manual says, Use a plastic wedge to press clips on the front side of door (along with retaining rail for front door) off the door panel. What that translated to in my case was, ... to break clips off the front side of the door ..., as all six broke. So, FedEx overnight from Rusty (the nearest dealer is in Albuquerque, 100 miles and two hours to the south). Now I see in the Installation section, Always use new clips. Not that I had any choice ... but it would have been nicer if I could have had the clips on hand before I started the process (silly me for thinking that they would be re-usable like the ones on the inner door panel). It also says, Note: in the ares of the clips, the sealing frame must be glued to the door panel with MB universal adhesive, part No. 000 989 92 71. and, Seal front bottom corner of front door with Union cement. So, my question: will Liquid Nails Projects Construction Adhesive do the jobs of these glues? My wife would like to use the car tomorrow. Thanks, Craig

3M trim adhesive is much easier to use, and you can get it back off again as well! My friend the MB mechanic told us to just cut the old clips, they NEVER come out intact. You might be able to get them out from inside the door, but it's much easier to destroy them and get new. Nice to know that first, though, eh? Peter

- Barge Original All Purpose Cement, and, - Permatex Item #81731 80 Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. I'd think either of these two would be fine choices. Re: [MBZ] Question about changing the gasket on driver's door
you asked:will Liquid Nails Projects Construction Adhesive do the jobs of these glues The LN is a fantastic adhesive but IMO it;s not right for weatherstrips. It dries rock hard - I've used it as body filler in areas that don;t show and the door weather strips need something a little less firm. The 3M weatherstrip available at all the FLAPS will do the trip. Available in black or yellow, it works fast and lasts long. Re: [MBZ] Question about changing the gasket on driver's door
You don't need a strong bond for this job, it is more to hold the plastic in place while the door trim gets put back on. The weaker the adhesive the better, a cheap silicone is ideal for this because it won't tear the plastic if you have to remove it again. Also removing the residue from the door is not as big a problem as the more powerful adhesives. Remember to check the bottom of the doors for rust while you got the trim off, usually the drain holes block up due to accumulated road grime and traps water. - Original Message - From: OK Don [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 11:15 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Question about changing the gasket on driver's door By last one, I was referring to our list from the neighbor -- Permatex Item #81731 80 Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. Is there a way to make it reflect the correct time? *A.* If you find that your Windows computer will not stay set to the correct time here is what I have found will fix it. First, go to *windowsupdate.microsoft.com http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com* and make sure you are fully patched. You can use the custom option if you want to exclude Internet Explorer 7. Install all the patches, reboot and go back until there are no more high priority updates to be installed. Once you are patched double click the clock down in the system tray. Go to the Time Zone tab and select any time zone other than the one you are in. Click apply. Then set it back to your time zone and make sure the check box that says Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes is checked and click apply. You should see your system clock has now changed to the correct time.

cement, which comes with a screw top lid/brush. Brush dement on both the gasket and channel it fits into and allow to dry for 10 mins. Then press on for maximum adhesive strength. A nit: you only use the glue where there is _not_ a channel, the flat part up by the hinge. You don't need (or want) to glue it into the channel. If you do, you'll never get it out again, nor will the next gasket go in easily. And the glue might trap water, inducing rust. I recently read an interesting book called Einstein's Clocks Poincare's Pendulum that is about the whole process of establishing uniform time in Europe and around the world. The need started with the railroads as each little community had its own time (which lead to some interesting scheduling issues), then spread with the Empire needing to do accurate surveying of the domains. The telegraph played an important role too. --R wilton strickland wrote: True bearing of sun discernable with theodolite OR sextant. Re: [MBZ] Question about changing the gasket on driver's door
What excactly are we talking about? The plastic sheet that goes between the door trim and door or the rubber strip that holds the window in the channel. Far as I know the rubber window gasket does not require any sort of adhesive and the only way I could get it all back together was to spread the channel, fit the window into the rubber/channel and then squeeze the channel back to standard in a vice. I did not use any sort of glue, as this would have turned a difficult job into a total nightmare. However the use of a sealant to keep out stuff can be done if so desired. Although if I had my time over I would have gone to the wreckers and found a good side window to replace the one that came apart. - Original Message - From: Jim Cathey [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2007 12:50 AM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Question about changing the gasket on driver's door cement, which comes with a screw top lid/brush.
