That sensor plug is keyed and cannot be reversed? I've applied some Deoxit to all of the coolant sensor connectors. I've checked the resistances of all of the coolant sensors, and the 3 pronged green (see the picture link) showed open to ground, and open across all 3 combinations of prongs. The best way would be to soak it (the hat not your head, though that might expandyour head some to fit the hat) and then leave it sit in the sun to dry. Bill, I have a few recipes somewhere, even very old ones from a book from the 1800s. For those little critters you can use one of those 1000 or 1200fps air rifles. Good thing the new evaporator has a new expansion valve on it, eh? Actually, they aren't THAT bad so long as you are very careful to get the allen wrench properly seated in the two screws that hold the valve to the evaporator. I'll be challanging myself with this over the weekend or early next week, as I plan to attempt a flush of my evaporator and want to change the o-rings in any case -- new compressor and receiver/dryer with a filter in the hose set -- don't see much point in NOT changing all the o-rings at the same time! [MBZ] anyone know how to shrink straw hat?
i bought some cheap chinese clearance hats mail order. my head measures about 59 1/2 cm and it seems from my adventure at the western store messing with cowboy hats that a 7 1/2 works best for me in a nice stiff stetson. this would make me an XL on the charts, so i order 3 very cheap chinese straw hats, one in large and two in xl. two of them fit well enough, but the third is just way too big. i would not get enough on a return to make it worth shipping back. i don't like the idea of just throwing it out and i don't happen to know any giant headed people who might want it. and thoughts on how to shrink it? what about wearing it with an 80s style sweatband? ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Donald, if I were there, I'd do it for ya free and with pleasure - ya wouldn't be able to tell it had been "added" later. Installed several of 'em in old houses 35 to 40 years ago. The pusbutton unit provides the ground for the signal -- it must have 12V on it with the ignition on. If not, you have a wiring problem, usually a broken wire at the socket. That's why I suggested testing voltage to ground at the pressure cut- out switch. To jump a few posts, check the wires on the temperature sensor (may be in the upper radiator hose fitting OR lower down mid-block, it was moved at some point). The wires break, and the PBCU will "think" the coolant is about -50F with infinite resistance! One wire was busted on mine. Also check the resistance of the temperature sensors for the cabin, evaporator, and heat exchanger. An open sensor at any one of them will likely keep the compressor off, as no cooling is required OR the evaporator is too cold. Dad and I were at the range one time and a couple old fellers were there with their .45s. We all backed away when he brought that pistol up to shoot but it was amazing, as he brought the gun up all sign of the tremor ceased and he was just as steady as a rock. He then proceeded to shoot different handloads through a chronograph. This was a window chrono so he had to keep all his shots to about a 4" window or he'd have blown his chrono apart. I believe that the coolant sensor for the ACC is in a dual element sensor on the engine - one set of pins for the ACC, the other for the idle control. All 3. XH-7 and XH-9 are used by most R134a systems. XH-5 is used for R12. It's relatively cheap stuff. Also safer than having exothermic reactions in potentially flammable environments. Like I said, I'll have to be hungrier than I am now for that to happen. I've done some hunting and a fair amount of fishing, but never been responsible for dressing what was killed except for fish when I was a kid. We always ate what was killed or caught, though. I used to fish off the keys with my FIL. Best fisherman I ever saw, and was the man came up with the idea for the fighting chair and some other stuff. He was the exclusive furniture supplier for Chris-Craft for many years. He had the fish cleaning job down to a science, and any attempt to help was just a bother. Fun to watch him, though. Re: [MBZ] '86 SDL no a/c
Only way I know to tell if the pressure switch is working is to measure its continuity while measuring the pressure. It's standard procedure to check it after adding refrigerant. All the ones I've seen are closed (zero ohms) with pressure in the system. If one of the wires falls of its better to shut off the system rather than risk running the compressor without oil flowing through the pipes. It's not something you want to bypass long term. Getting metal fragments out of the system from a blown compressor is a real PITA - not to mention the pain of buying a new compressor. The switch should close at ~ 30 psi, and then open again at ~ 400PSI. The high pressure open protects against a system freeze up - I've never tested it. It depends on temperature, but you should see something like 200-250psi on the high side and 40-50psi on the low side once the system has been operating for a few minutes - assuming you use R134a. Here is a chart if you want to be more precise: http://www.ackits.com/aacf/ptchart.cfm As you are adding vapor to the low side, you will see a sweet spot where the low pressure climbs and the high pressure remains the same. That usually means I'm close to optimal. -Dave Walton On Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 10:55 AM, Luther <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Low pressure switch was already bypassed by the po. Good luck with that. Folks who do decent work should do OK, but so many [like the guy I bought my house from] do half-assed jobs. Always a real stretch to get a business to be making a profit, so if you are near there you are doing OK. Re: [MBZ] ahh the 1000SEL
Hi all, Here is a reply from John Olson, SL Market Letter editor to my query concerning a purported 1000SEL on eBay. Take care, Chuck ~~ "Daimler-Benz never built or sold a car called a 1000 SEL. In my opinion this offering should be pulled from E-bay, by E-bay, for gross errors in presentation. There was a car called a 1000 SEL marketed in Germany by a aftermarket modifier, I believe it was called Styling Garage. Their 1000 SEL was extrapolated from a long wheel base S-Class sedan -- I have an elaborate mid-1980s sales brochure from the Styling Garage in my archives featuring a 1000 SEL with widened body, conspicuous spoilers and side skirts, and elaborate interior, TV in the front and back seats, leather dash and headliner, and totally unique upholstery pattern. The Styling Garage prospered for a bout five years selling cars to Middle-Eastern oil sheiks after the first oil shortage/crisis. It was possible to get faster motors but the Styling Garage and other similar companies were infamous for extreme interiors and controversial fiberglass body appendages. Some of them wore this exact sale 1000 SEL nomenclature on their trunks. The only part of this E-bay offerings that I can see that appears to be a "genuine" aftermarket part is the "1000 SEL" trunk label. The car "may be" an early 1986 model (first titled in 1985) with 1986 side-moldings and allow wheels. Everything else about it looks like a normal, 1985 gray-market short wheelbase 500SE. The seller claims the the car has a 5.6 liter V8 but offers a "126-036" chassis number indicating a short wheel base (SE) 5.0 liter V8. A 560 SEL would have a 126-039 VIN. The 560 SE would be 126-038. You are welcome to forward this e-mail to anyone in the club asking about this E-bay car." // John // John R. Olson, Editor, THE SL MARKET LETTERS .
