Yep. I do the exact same thing sometimes. I realize that were they to hit me as I turned, they would probably be at fault, but at the same time, I am essentially offering them a PIT maneuver. But yeah, I recognize that what they want most of all is me out of their way. Thus I know how to hurt them most. Recently I had a clown in a brand new big super duper Chevy dually try to intimidate me because I didnt accelerate as fast as he wanted to. Then, when I obeyed the residential speed limit of 25 he began put his brights on me (middle of the day, so not a big problem). He was so close to me all I could see out the back window was grill. I could hear his diesel engine raving. When I got to my driveway, he roared off after flashing his lights a few times. I turned around and followed the way he went, thinking I may see him at a certain spot down the road. Sure enough he was there. I pulled in front of where he was parked and asked if it was him that had been flashing at me. At first he tried to deny he knew what I was talking about, but then he started justifying his actions, saying he thought there might be something wrong with me. I told him that where I come from tailgating is a sign of aggression. You could tell the guy just wanted me to go away. Seems his bravado had diminished now that he was confronted face to face. I told him he was an f-ing coward then I left. And thats what I find these days: Tailgating and aggressive driving doesnt seem to be anything personal or angry anymore. Now that everybody, including the CDC, is admitting that the majority of USA polio cases in my lifetime were caused by the Sabin vaccine, maybe we can go back to immunizing infants with the Salk vaccine. The Salk vaccine, first tested on a large scale in 1954, involves injection of dead poliomyelitis virus. The Sabin vaccine, which came out about ten years later, involves oral dosage of weakened live virus. The only reasons the government won't change back to the safe vaccine is that they think oral dosage is more convenient, and institutional inertia. Either somebody at the health department was passing around a really nasty flu bug the day I got the Sabin vaccine in 1965, or they had a batch of too strong vaccine. I (age one) and a neighbor girl (about ten) got a nasty stomach flu later that week. Mine was accompanied by partial left side paralysis, hers wasn't. I couldn't walk, and if Mom stood me up my left leg would buckle and I'd fall down. The paralysis went away with the fever, but from then on my right foot and leg outgrew the left, and I still have a general stiffness and minor lack of motor response in the left side. My shoe sizes are 11C and 8 1/2D, and my right leg is now 3/4 longer than the left. Either I have CP, that coincidentally began to crop up after getting the flu, which coincidentally happened after getting live polio vaccine, or the Salk vaccine I received in 1964 failed to protect me from the Sabin vaccine I received in 1965. Both possibilities seem very unlikely, but one of them happened. BASIC PRODUCTIVITY LESSON: The most productive systems appear chaotic to the outside, but are HIGHLY organized at the lowest levels. This is because if left to their own devices in a free market, each individual acts to maximize their own productivity to achieve the best rewards. (individuals, whether people or companies, self regulate and no outside planning is needed.) UNproductive systems appear HIGHLY organized from the outside, but are highly DISORGANIZED at the low levels. This is the classic soviet system. they pretend to pay us, so we pretend to work Because of the highly controlled (Central planning) system, there are lots of regulations and oversight in place. Re: [MBZ] W123 blower cutting in and out
Just replace the blower. Yes three screws and be done with it.. Douglas I had posted a few weeks ago that my heater blower suddenly was not working one morning. After a while, I tried thumping a fist on the dash and it came back to life, speculation as I recall was that the motor needed new brushes, or needed to be replaced soon. Now, more often, it is randomly cutting in and out. I can usually get it to come back on by cycling the ACC buttons, beating on the dash, or both. Sometimes I just have to wait and it will cut in again after a while. I'm wondering now if this is more like an ACC that needs to be resoldered. I'm pretty sure someone has a write up on that, but don't know who. Anyone got a link? It seems the battery in my W115 is going: it failed to start at lunch on the battery alone, but when I put my 450A boost box it cranked right up. Probably not coincidentally, my clock has been losing substantial time while parked, and keeps fine while driving, so I'm suspecting the battery rather than the alternator. The battery in the car is a 1000CCA, class 49-1. Big big battery. Assuming I do a reasonable wiring job would it be safe to use two or even three in parallel? Tim, Before blaming tha battery, try this - with the engine off! Reach down grab the alternator pulley twist to see if it will slip in the belt. I still have the motorcycle endorsement on my licence too. I have had 3 Hondas. My last was a 79 Goldwing. I don't have any now and don't have any plans to acquire one either. In this country, the season for riding is too short and the insurance is very expensive. Add that to the fact that I am getting old and more concerned about the healing process if I were to get knocked off of it and I will just stick with my old MB, which my sons refer to as the tank. Re: [MBZ] OT HDMI cable
Digits are different from waves. Digits either get there or not, waves can get wavier. Yabut the digits are transmitted over [more or less square] waves, so there can still be issues caused by cables, especially since HDMI uses frequencies of up to 340MHz, with total bandwidth in the 5-10GB/s range, so you can still run into issues with skewing, crosstalk, attenuation and signal reflection... HDMI uses a differential data transmission strategy, wherein two wires are used for each bit, and at any moment in time, one will be positive and the other will be negative. The two wires will simultaneously swap polarity to differentiate between a 1 and a 0 . Skewing is the condition where there is a difference in the delay in transition of one of the wires (from + to - or - to +) in a differential pair, which can cause a bit to be mis-detected or undetected (discarded). Crosstalk is when the signal on one differential pair influences the signal on other pair(s) (kind of like a linear transformer...). Since the underlying waveform is a square wave, which have lots of harmonics in the edges of the waveform, it may be more likely to have noise introduced into other pairs... leading to bitstream errors. Sufficient attenuation can result in the difference between the two wires in the differential pair falling below the detection threshold, causing the signal to become corrupted or ignored. Signal reflection is caused by impedance mismatches between the cable and the terminating device(s). Anyhow, these things are all bad since HDMI has no error detection/correction. This can be very bad, since the standard requres that a crypto handshake wherein the display is authenticated by the player/AV source prior to the transmission of each and every frame (30x a second for interlaced, 60x a second for progressive...). Flipped or missing bits in the data stream can cause the crypto handshake to fail, which will prevent the transmission of that video frame, and possibly generate errors indicating that the display device is not authorized. Hope this helps -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If it's just a straight dump of bits up the wire, then a few wrong bits often don't make any difference, but too many and they start to; that's why (good) audio CD players oversample and do other kinds of clever on-the-fly error correction, so as to forstall the unpleasant noises produced by random data going into a D/A converter. If it's a packet-based protocol, like USB, then too many errors will reduce transfer speed noticeably as the bad packets get resent and re-re-sent---ask anyone who has had their Internet connection slow way down because of a flaky router or Ethernet cable. The one I just bought is labelled RCA and says it meets all HDMI standards. Might not be quite as good as the Monster cable but at less than 1/3 of the price, I am going to see if it works. I paid $39 for the 2nd cable so not the cheapest junk out there either. I just sort of felt abused after getting talked into the expensive cable at the electronics store when I bought the Blue-ray player. I suppose they probably have cheaper ones somewhere in the store but I was in a hurry and did not ask if they had some more reasonbly priced cables. I really do suspect that they advertise the player at a good price and then try to make up some additional profit on things like the cable. I also agree with one of you folks who said the da**ed cable should be in the box so you could hook it up without having to gather extra pieces. Re: [MBZ] WAS RE: Snew - NOW OT - sheet metal bending
The roller does just that, makes the metal curved and rolled up. I think you can set the rollers to some distance apart which affects the radius of the roll. Turn the crank to make the rollers go and the metal goes through and gets curved. The shear is just like a big scissors, you either work a handle or step on a thing to make it cut. A brake is to bend the metal at whatever angle you move it to -- you clamp it on the edge you want bent then move the plate up to make the bend. Do a google books search on sheet metal -- they have all kinds of old tech manuals scanned in there and you can download pdfs of the books. I got a bunch of old trade school and shop books on woodworking and metal lathes/mills. --R R A Bennell wrote: On the first link, at the bottom on the left, there is a photo of a, brake, shear, roller - 3 in 1 sheet metal working machine. Ah, but they are a joy to drive on the highway. Super sweet between 90 and 100 mph, and they still get 12 mph while you do it. That pathetic 3-speed usually lasts longer than the car (and was used from 1988 to 1981 in the W108/109 and W116 cars) and is silky smooth. The pathetic one was the 4-speed used with the M100 in the W109 6.3L -- never did hold up with crap and didn't have a torque converter, used a fluid coupling instead. Very very common to have to get it rebuilt every 50,000 miles or so, and even they they slip if you romp on it a lot (which is very tempting, I'm told). Maybe those in/near DC can get malls added to the EPA proposed reg for CAFOs (animal confinement facilities) If flatulence from cafos is changing the climate, then malls and megastores are too. Lets see I think the tax on cafos was $175 per head. If it is good for the goose (cafo) then it is good for the gander (Malls and megastores) Wonder how many head wander through a mall or megastore in a day? Take that times $175 and ol 'bama will have a regular printin' press! \) personally, i could do pretty well with only hardware stores and lumberyards.
