You are flat out wrong, Kaleb. It is MB approved in 229.5, which applies to the M119 engine in my car. 229.51, which is for later model cars than my S500, specifies the ESP version of the 0W-40, although I would point out that it is also acceptable in nearly all current production gas engines as specified in 223.2. Was at the local WalMart tonight to start stocking up on the ever elusive 0W-40 "European" Mobil1. $6.79 a quart. Ouch. So I bend down to put one of the bottles in the basket I was carrying, and lo and behold, right there on the bottom shelf are 5 quart bottles of the same for $24.79 So, doing the math: 1 quart bottle - $6.79 x 8 = $54.32 ($6.79/quart) 2 - 5 quart bottles at $24.79/ea = $49.58 (4.96/quart) And my Walmart is a rural one, which has minimal or no stock on such oddities. IIRC, the center pivot for the big spring was pot metal, and broke in both of the manual window cars I had. I fabricated new ones from a large bolt with a grinding wheel and hack saw, over the better part of a day each time. I worried that the electric windows in the '76 300D would be even more trouble, but I only had to clean switches - they were trouble free over the 150,000 miles otherwise. The only problems with the SLC windows were the flacking louvers in the back windows and one switch that needed cleaning over the 100,000 that I had the car. Now, the engine was another story! [MBZ] '84 300D upper control arms
Since my brother had an episode in the '85 300TD where the front sway bar broke and we've been told that this is a common occurence, so I was trying to have some preventive maintenance done on my 300D by replacing the sway bar bushings. I'd been hearing groaing noises near the firewall upon traversing bumps (Note: squirting silicon spay in/near the sway bar bushings on the firewall would resolve this temporarily), and my two front tires were wearing really odd and quickly. As it turned out, my local indy (EuroSpec) replaced the upper control arms and the sway bar bushings and aligned the front suspension, and I had two new tires installed. Some of the bushings were in terrible shape; I'm gonna' take some photos of these if anyone is interested. G. M. [MBZ] OT: Tampa wind. was: Epic score
From: "Dan Penoff" > When you're downtown like I am, the wind really whips up between the buildingssnip. It does. When the '47 hurricane hit I was working at the Tampa Tribune which was on Kennedy Blvd (Grand Central then) about four blocks from the bridge. I got off work at 11 pm and started walking toward the bridge. A huge gust of wind got behind me, and to keep from falling down, I started running. The wind eased just before I got to the river and I was able to stop. A stronger wind might have meant a swim in the Hillsborough River. Could be. When you're downtown like I am, the wind really whips up between the buildings and makes it feel a lot colder than it is. Bunch of wusses down here. Gets in the 40s and people are running around in parkas and mittens. That's jacket weather to me... Re: [MBZ] Transmission Mount
Thanks. That I know, but for doing the mount I don't have to loosen the lock nut on the drive shaft. What should have been a 30 minute job turned into a good hour. On the 140, the mount is an arrangement where a long bolt goes through the mount and a bracket that is bolted to the back of the transmission case. The nut on the through bolt had its corners stripped off and the bolt itself was not the proper size and had been driven with force into the aluminum bore in the mount, effectively seizing it. I had to remove the bracket with the mount, then use a socket, brass drift and BFH to drive the bolt out. Fortunately I have a wonderful Ace Hardware close by, so I was able to find the properly sized metric bolt and nut to replace what had been in the old mount. Once everything was in place I tightened it up and called it a night. Certainly not the same as a 123 or 126 transmission mount, but under normal circumstances should be a fairly simple job.
