[MBZ] Coolant Gauge Fix

2013-04-28 Thread Dan Penoff
I have been struggling with the coolant temperature gauge on the S500. It's
been wonky for a while, and driving me nuts in the process. Typical behavior
would be for it to show the coolant temperature as the engine arms up, then
when it approaches operating temperature, BOING! The needle goes full scale.

I had tested and replaced the sender, verified that the wiring harness was
intact (found a break in it) and gone completely through the circuit to the
point where I was convinced the gauge itself was bad.

I snagged a complete instrument cluster for $100 from a guy parting out a 95
S500 sedan. Yesterday I pulled my cluster, swapped the gauges from his cluster
to mine, and while in there cleaned and replaced lamps, connections, etc. I
also took the opportunity to transplant the little rubber pads that are located
around the outside of the cluster that keep it from slipping out of the dash,
since only one of mine was left.

Voilá! I now have a working coolant temperature gauge. Amazing. What's even
better is to see that in a mid 80F ambient with the AC on I am running right
around 82C. Since the gauge had been pretty much nonfunctional in the past, I
have never had a good idea where the engine was running temperature-wise.

I love it when everything works.

Yeah. I saw the guy was parting out the car, so I asked him if he wanted to
sell the cluster. He told me to make him an offer, so I told him $100. I
didn't hear from him for like a week, so I figured he was offended by my offer
(eBay units are going for around $150-$200).

I dropped him a note and asked about it, and he apologized and said he forgot
as he had been traveling on business. He accepted the offer and shipped it out
to me the next day.

Re: [MBZ] APPROACHING MY TWILIGHT YEARS

2013-04-28 Thread clay
Educated in China, she is in her late 30's and specializes in breast cancer.
Head of that department at a small rural health care shop, as well as at the
local Sisters of Providence hospital. That is how Dad got hooked up with her.
The gastric/geriatric onc was headed out of town for three weeks after he
diagnosed dad. Dame onc waited to get Dad in for chemo, then forgot to
schedule patient visit for four months.

Dad had extensive comorbidity, from melanoma, prostate, squameous cell, as well
as congestive heart failure, TIA, three bypasses, long term kidney stone
history. Gastro shop noted polyp in 2009, but did not mention it would need
treatment, so in 2012 it had gone malignant. Metastasized to liver and in the
blood by then.

Dame onc did not follow AAOS guidelines for treatment of geriatric patients by
using nuetrafil boosters, adjusting dosage to account for patient age for
chemo, noted, but did nothing about the edema that got worse until pleural
effusion took out his lungs over five months. Pretty much just a technician
following some standardized set of procedures more relevant to healthy young
woman breast cancer than inoperable gastric in an octogenarian with extensive
comorbidity. She did not even try to coordinate care with his other physicians
until my attorney contacted the head of oncology to inquire about the slap dash
methodology. That was three weeks ago.

Dad was not into making a fuss, so I was told to let it go. This is what I
expect will be the norm under oblama-we-don't-care.

[MBZ] 14 tires

2013-04-28 Thread Dieselhead

Time for tires for the 240D.

Ended up with 195/70-14 starfire (made by cooper) $274 all in. It
is an all weather tar. Rated AB400 $57 each, $2 stems, $2 disposal
of the rotten ol tars, $5 balance (all per tar) 7% sales tax in that
price too.

Cooper has a good rep, so we will see how these do.

[MBZ] 2004 MB E320 4matic parts diagram / parts book

2013-04-28 Thread Robert Koziak
Hi,

I am having difficulty finding a service manual or parts book for my 2004 E320
4matic. I am trying to locate a part number for a clamp that is on the top
front of the engine and holds the upper radiator hose in place. It was
apparently plastic and snapped into the aluminum housing where he oil filter
goes. In it's place there is a plastic wire tie holding it to the housing.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a service manual or parts diagram. If
not just the part number for the clamp would be helpful.

When I started driving used Mercedes over 30 years ago a mechanic, knowing I
was passionate about Mercedes, told me do a small project every week and
always use OEM parts. I have taken his advice to this day. The clamp is my
project this week!

 Hi,

I am having difficulty finding a service manual or parts book for my 2004
E320 4matic. I am trying to locate a part number for a clamp that is on the
top front of the engine and holds the upper radiator hose in place. It was
apparently plastic and snapped into the aluminum housing where he oil filter

Re: [MBZ] APPROACHING MY TWILIGHT YEARS

2013-04-28 Thread Gerry Archer

From: clay redgh...@comcast.net
Educated in China, she is in her late 30's and specializes in breast
cancer. Head of that department at a small rural health care shop, as
well as at the local Sisters of Providence hospital. That is how Dad got
hooked up with her. The gastric/geriatric onc was headed out of town for
three weeks after he diagnosed dad. Dame onc waited to get Dad in for
chemo, then forgot to schedule patient visit for four months.
Dad had extensive comorbidity, from melanoma, prostate, squameous cell, as
well as congestive heart failure, TIA, three bypasses, long term kidney
stone history. Gastro shop noted polyp in 2009, but did not mention it
would need treatment, so in 2012 it had gone malignant. Metastasized to
liver and in the blood by then.
Dame onc did not follow AAOS guidelines for treatment of geriatric
patients by using nuetrafil boosters, adjusting dosage to account for
patient age for chemo, noted, but did nothing about the edema that got
worse until pleural effusion took out his lungs over five months. Pretty
much just a technician following some standardized set of procedures more
relevant to healthy young woman breast cancer than inoperable gastric in
an octogenarian with extensive comorbidity. She did not even try to
coordinate care with his other physicians until my attorney contacted the
head of oncology to inquire about the slap dash methodology. That was
three weeks ago.
Dad was not into making a fuss, so I was told to let it go. This is what
I expect will be the norm under oblama-we-don't-care.

You may be right, Clay, the U.S. brings in foreign trained doctors instead
of training enough of its own. Some are excellent but others are not.

Losing someone we love is never easy, but in your fathers case; with all his
problems; it may have been for the best. Hopefully they gave him enough
narcotics to ease his passing.

Yes. Aluminum. It should have a white line painted on the side. The 6 wheel
that you describe is quite rare and desirable. If you are interested in selling
it, I have a friend in DC who might want it. Yes, likely a 280E.

rusty, and after the tire is off it, it is very light. It is a 6 x
 14 wheel, where 240D wheels are 5.5 x 14.

What was it from? 280E? I think that was the most HP in a 123 wasn't

I am interested in selling it. I need to check my other 240D wheels.
If I only have one, it is not much good by itself. A set would be
nice. Fleabay morons want $500 each, but none are shown on completed
sales. I'd take $500 for mine, but don't expect to get that.
