The ones for the OM606 are longer by necessity; making the engine 4 valve per cylinder resulted in the injector being placed between the camshafts, so each one is down in a hole (that is slightly deeper than the injector is long). I believe that you need 2-3 meters of hose for the job, but I haven't done it in a while. (I've got a gauge stick around somewhere though!) The easiest way to get the exact lengths of the hoses is to look them up in the EPC. Wetness around the delivery valves (on the injection pump, which is half hiding under the intake manifold), is a whole separate ball of wax; that will mean re-sealing the delivery valves (which is an annoying, fiddly job) If you will be doing your own maintenance on the car, you might want to leave the vertically-oriented bolt that goes through the tab on the charge air pipe and a bracket before threading into the EGR valve out; it is a MAJOR PITA to get to (there is not even a straight shot from below). You may also want to keep a spare intake manifold gasket around. BTW, I think there's a detailed write-up on the delivery valve reseal floating around. The EPC does NOT list the seals at all for an OM606 of any variant, but they are the same as the ones on an OM601/OM602/OM603. Likewise, WIS does not list a job for re-sealing the valves; dealer procedure is to replace the pump. (This is likely due to the fact that you will have at least a 10% chance of one that needs to be re-done immediately (which of course means the intake manifold has to come back off)) (2x 210.025, 1x 123.133 in the driveway) -- John W Reames jream...@verizon.net Home: +14106646986 Mobile: +14437915905 On May 4, 2013, at 14:47, Mitch Haley m...@voyager.net wrote: WILTON wrote: Whenever I've had fuel wetness around my injectors, I've been lucky enough that only the fuel return tubes that go from injector-to-injector, etc. (small, cloth-covered, rubber tubes), have been leaking and simply replacing those has cured the leaking/wetness. Max, would you rather weld that joint? I noticed that slits have been cut on opposite sides of the bigger pipe end. Of, course, each half of the pipe end between the slits still has too much curve for them to squeeze inward a bit to close the gap between bigger and smaller pipes, but if additional slits were cut at 90° to the present slits and then again half way between those new slits and the original ones, each tab would be only ~¾ inch wide and would be flat enough to bend inward slightly and close the gap between the 2 pipes for welding. 'Course, you'd then hafta weld the slits. I have an area director that was in my corner the whole time, and he is willing to vouch for me whenever I would want to return. I am invited to all of the chapter events and have always been welcome. I just don't have the time nor the inclination. The whole tenor of the organization and the local chapter has changed, and in a way that doesn't appeal to me. Our chapter is definitely better than it was, for sure, but it's more late model youngsters and some of the legacy people, and a very small, if any, contingent of DIY sorts of folks. I've got plenty of opportunities for social gatherings within my own circles. Just because the people who attend own MBs isn't a qualifier. Yes, the goal was to weld all the joints, but we really needed a lift to get enough clearance to install the entire assembly. With the catalytic converter installed, it was too long to get the right angle for the bends going from horizontal (pipes and converter under the car) to near vertical (pipes going up to exhaust manifold). I was limited in how high I could get the car by the jack stands I had. The pipes coming off the exhaust manifold had to fit into a narrow area between firewall, steering gear, and lower frame cross member. Common replacement item. The corrosion causes heating, which melts the plastic. Solder the new one in place -- they are readily available. DO NOT just twist the wires together and tape, you will have fits with low light output, bulb-out light on all the time, and missing beams. Re: [MBZ] 1999 Mercedes E300 Turbodiesel Fuel Injector Leak Issues(UNCLASSIFIED)
Topsider was used twice to do it at home. I finally just had my indy take care of the issue and stopped running high BioD concentrations. These engines are also known to weld in the #6 glow plug. I have had the head off twice to get that dealt with in a decade. The first time was due to cross threading, which repeated the error induced by the prior repair to that glow. That was repaired and retapped, and for unknown reasons, maybe carbon, it sealed itself in again. Past January the car was in the shop for three dead glow plugs (and #6 had failed) so they all came out with the head having to come off and more tapping and the admonition that the GP should probably be tweaked once a year to keep it free. New exhaust manifold gasket each time. clay On May 5, 2013, at 5:06 AM, John Reames wrote: The ones for the OM606 are longer by necessity; making the engine 4 valve per cylinder resulted in the injector being placed between the camshafts, so each one is down in a hole (that is slightly deeper than the injector is long). Re: [MBZ] OT: Speeding and revenue
IMO the progressive tax code should be illegal. Just because someone is wealthy is no reason to tax them at a higher rate. Actually the tax codes as sold to the public just before 1916 was said to only apply to the very wealthy. You can see how long that lasted. It's always easier to point to the rich guys (who are always fewer in number than the masses) and convince those with less finances how evil the wealthy are for no other reason than they have more money. Tax rates and ticket costs should be the same for everyone. Just because the socialist in Europe are doing it doesn't mean it's right. Just because the wealthy have more money doesn't mean they should spend more on the government and all the stupid things they like to spend our taxes on. The government does so many things they have no business doing it's no wonder we're trillions in debt. Things like peanut allotments which do nothing but keep prices high, cotton and diary products get the same treatment. The govt is tossing suply and demand in order to manage production. And in return those industries donate huge dollars to get the people elected who will continue these and other practices. Back to progressive laws that punish the wealthy more than others. There is no reason to tax the rich at higher rates than everyone else. So there :-P LarryT On 5/3/2013 8:51 PM, Scott Ritchey wrote: What is the basis of the implied assumption that the rich (generally understood to mean anyone with more than me) should not have the same Constitutional protections as the poor? Hi All. I always wondered what happened to them. IIRC, they had amazing performance. The FAA exhibits monarch type legislative oversight - likely rightfully so. The FAA is responsible for a large number of airplanes and by extension, passengers.Back when I was taking flying lessons i was always amazed at the extent of thought they put into the legislation.. Of course the need is obvious. Of course, 30+ years ago things were a little simpler with fewer space age materials available to the general public.I would think the F1 racing experience would help the Starship get farther along the legislative trail. They use composites for everything except engine and trans blocks I believe. Of course there are some internal parts engine/tranny parts that do not lend themselves to composites. But the technology has been well documented and tested - of course, getting the various groups to release proprietary information may be a tough row to hoe. It's called a value added tax, or VAT. Common in the EU and other places. Dan NO! A VAT is insidious. VAT is added every time a raw material, part or component is handled. A flat tax on income is direct and understandable. A tax on retail sales is also direct and understandable. VAT greatly favors vertically integrated companies., as they start with raw ingredients and if they sell directly at retail, there are only two VATs on the finished product, on raw materials, and again on the retail sale. Take an auto for example. Many tiers of suppliers, each with several levels of VAT. The VAT becomes a MAJOR component of the retail price. VAT sucks bigtime. Re: [MBZ] W124 headlight bulb connector
True, for the most part. Solder beyond the connector (in the wire) can cause the flexing from vibration to work harden the wire at the end of the solder, resulting in a break. IF you can keep the solder within the connector/crimp area and NOT wick any past that point, you will have a better electrical connection at no increased risk. The plastic insulator beyond the metal crimp is also a support for controlling where/how much the wire flexes. It is often supplimented with varying sizes and lengths of heat shrink tubing. Some connections, inside a DB25 for example, about HAVE to be soldered.
