It is annoying how diesel has been consistently more expensive that unleaded. Premium is $3.30 and diesel is $3.65 right now here in AZ. Sometimes when I read you guy posts about putting cars up for the winter, putting on snow tires, getting out storm windows and storm doors, or i read the obligatory winter oil thread I miss not living where there are seasons. My favorite long time hobby is woodworking, and with a basement I could have a full time shop set up. When we were back in Indianapolis I had a full blown shop with all the tools I needed and really nice amenities, such as a dust collection system. I could go down there and putter with the lathe or get serious and build a complete bedroom set, which I have done for each of my boys as a graduation gift. I also had a really good source for hardwood lumber there, so when the wife saw a piece of furniture she liked I could pretty well turn out a duplicate with minimal effort. I miss woodworking. No possibility for it down here unless I would give up the garage, and that's not going to happen, not to mention it would barely be adequate as far as space. Sigh. Re: [MBZ] Alone again
Full size grandfather clock with German movement was built out of cherry for our 10th wedding anniversary. I have often thought I should have a clock guy come by and service it, but in the 23 years we have had it the thing runs great and has rarely required regulation. I'm sure it needs some lubrication, but I am not about to mess with it. I learned how to do fluted columns on a lathe for this. Most of the rest of the case work was pretty straightforward. The stile and rail parts that are arched were tough, but I learned a lot from doing them (more than once!) When we were in Indy and the economy was going down the tubes, I took advantage and scrounged up a lot of really nice woodworking equipment. When it was all said and done, I spent under $2k for: 13 DeWalt surface planer and stand 36 Delta wood lathe Atlas 3/4 shaper with a set of 8 cutters 10 DeWalt radial arm saw 10 Craftsman table saw with a 2HP magnetic start motor and Biesemeyer fence Atlas 6 belt sander with stand 6 Craftsman jointer/planer Delta 2HP dust collector with bags I'm sure there was more, but suffice to say I was a wild man on Craigslist. I spent less to get more than I had ever had in the way of machinery in the past. I was in woodworking heaven. But - had to get rid of everything when we moved back here. No place to put or keep it, not to mention the expense of moving it. Dan Unfortunately, I have collected so many tools and so much stuff that I hardly have room to work in my basement now. I am in a 2 storey house too and as such do not have a really big basement. It is however, nice to have some place to do things in the dead of winter. Pretty difficult to do much outside here when it is really cold. I have cut up sheets of plywood into smaller pieces (so that I could trim them and work with them in the basement) outside when it was more than 20 below C. I have a double garage but it too is pretty full and does not leave much room to work. I have insulated the walls mostly and put in a new insulated door but have yet to do the ceiling and so if I try to heat it, all of the heat rises into the attic and melts the snow on the roof. I have done things like changing a thermostat when it was minus 30 C but I am getting old and smart. I wouldn't do that anymore. My younger son is a mechanic and has an arrangement with his girl's uncle to use his big heated shop. If I needed something in the dead of winter I would get my son to do it for me. I think, you should, at the very least, oil the thing. I have a client who started out as a watchmaker. I have talked to him about our old mantle clock and he has said it should seldom need to be cleaned but should be lubed periodically so that the bushings do not wear. [MBZ] update on blue 300d turbo for sale
I messed with the 83 300d turbo some today It started right up with a charged battery the auto trans was supposed to be screwed but shifted 1 2 and some flare into 3 and maybe it doesn't go into 4 i just drove it around the block front swaybar was recently repaired with new ends on both sides and a bit of front end work was done, as well i'll have to look at it and reverse works so it is a car with perhaps some potential i made a video of the engine starting and running i'll get that up shortly The sunroof works perfectly It even has the original window dealer sticker cost something like $33,000 new and i'll sell it for less than that thanks, xx rick Rick Hawkins ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Alone again
I'm in Burbank until Saturday, busy teaching and catching up on sleep, *^$%#! phone range at 5:30am, I'd finally gotten to the point I could sleep past 4am and its a wrong number... Next Wednesday I've got to head to DC for a couple days, do a class at the State Dept. I took the Jetta to the airport a week ago today and on the way drag raced a Prius from a stoplight. Beat 'em but seem to have picked up some crud from the fuel tank for my troubles as it was getting decidedly pokey by the time I got to Boston. I ordered a couple filters, I'll baby it home and change the filter on Sunday morning. I'll hit it with some biocide and Diesel Kleen which I probably should have done as soon as I got the car. -Curt Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2013 09:14:49 -0400 From: WILTON wilt...@nc.rr.com To: mercedes list mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: [MBZ] Alone again Message-ID: 27A888BC1AED46FD95CEEECFD8C4DACF@wiltonPC Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 All alone again; wo is me. If you're in Burbank and can get out of work early you can go get tickets and sit in on a Tonight Show taping. I used to stay at a hotel close to NBC and a really nice mall that had an amazing movie theater with really nice seating. Fun neighborhood with lots to do. You should look up Gay Larry and go clubbing. He knows some really good places. Seiko LM from 1972. 5606 caliber, not quite the best one they ever made, but close. I have a 30 jewel 8306 I need to service and it will probably be the one I wear for a while. I have a very nice 1936 Lord Elgin that was holding time to a second or so a day (back and forth, total difference over three weeks was +2 sec) but it got a cat hair wrapped up in the escape wheel and I've not gotten around to getting it cleaned again. One of my students last week works at the Tonight Show. I've been, its pretty fun. Last time I was here one of my students took me to Disneyland, some ABC folks get silver passes. Anybody ever wants to go see Springer in CT we've got a system there and they're always begging us to go. I guess its hard to get enough bodies in there... Strangely I've never been to a movie in Burbank but I'm always here by myself and I dislike going to the movies by myself. Tomorrow night its dinner with the online editor from Deadliest Catch. -Curt Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2013 21:07:52 -0400 From: Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] Alone again Message-ID: 06ae9362-f0f6-4c82-bdf8-35418fbc1...@penoff.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii If you're in Burbank and can get out of work early you can go get tickets and sit in on a Tonight Show taping.
