Which little computer? Aren't there dozens of them? How would you choose
which one(s) to give backup power, and which ones have to loose power when
you shut down the car? I appreciate the simplicity of my Cessna more all

i did it two days ago for that price

the work is done on modern tire machines

if i let the tire guys mount the wheels (i often carry the wheels in) i hand
install the lug bolts so i can remove them on the side of the road if need be

so a set of go forms can be mounted for $40

But, a recent survey found that a whopping percentage of people assumed
that people with black cars were powerful people.

The same survey found that people assumed that red vehicles were driven
by risk takers.

I don't know that I agree with the latter statement as both of my

Around here, I saw a lot of cream colored 110/111. The majority of

Second place interior was tan.

That was a popular color combo for the finnie sedans (heckflosse).

Hmm, I think this is still the special interest's congress. Tea Party did
help in the past two election cycles, but that anger seems to have faded.

Gerry-meandered congressional districts have pretty much ensured
hyper-partisan gridlock, which normally would be fantastic but... I'll

Subject: [MBZ] Fwd: Mount and Balance tars Go for M

This relates to Mitch's post about the high cost of mounting and balancing
tires. #1 Daughter just did a check of tar shops close to her. Below are
the results of her survey for the cost of mouning and balancing 4 tars she
would bring in. (bought from Kleb's Discount tar Direct)

Performance was $79, Delta was $100, Isaac was $88, and Tire Kingdom was
$16.99/tire for a total of $68, so it's just a bit cheaper than Firestone,
but I think the convenience is worth the extra $3-5 there, so I guess I'm
going to take it back to Firestone at $80. The highest was Andy X at
$168

These are dealers in the deep south where things are often less expensive.

What counts in the end is the total cost of tars, shipping, taxes, and
mounting/balancing/stems/roadhazard. That is the total cost on the car
and out the door.

Around $20/tar seems to be common/average.

[MBZ] Way OT and mind blowing revelation about panda digestion!

2015-05-20 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
A new study of panda waste brings bad news for the endangered species:
Their stomach microbes don't match their diet.

Though pandas have been eating bamboo for at least 7 million years, with
the plant being the bear's sole source of food for the past 2 million
years, it turns out the microbes in their guts are meant to digest meat.

The findings of the genetic analysis of 121 samples of panda feces
published in the journal*mBio* "may put [pandas] at high risk of
extinction," the authors wrote.

Scientists have long been wondering about pandas' evolution because their
stomachs are not as long as other herbivores. Longer guts allow animals
more time to break down tough plant parts.

The researchers hypothesized that pandas would have developed special
bamboo-optimized microbes to help them break down plants faster, but, as
their study shows, that is not the case.

Instead, the study found, pandas are living a "highly fragile lifestyle" by
relying so much on bamboo (Karen Kaplan, *Los Angeles Times*
,
May 19). *-- AW*

[MBZ] Fwd: Mount and Balance tars Go for M

2015-05-20 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes
This relates to Mitch's post about the high cost of mounting and
balancing tires. #1 Daughter just did a check of tar shops close to
her. Below are the results of her survey for the cost of mouning and
balancing 4 tars she would bring in. (bought from Kleb's Discount
tar Direct)

Performance was $79, Delta was $100, Isaac was $88, and Tire Kingdom
was $16.99/tire for a total of $68, so it's just a bit cheaper than
Firestone, but I think the convenience is worth the extra $3-5
there, so I guess I'm going to take it back to Firestone at $80.
The highest was Andy X at $168

These are dealers in the deep south where things are often less expensive.

What counts in the end is the total cost of tars, shipping, taxes,
and mounting/balancing/stems/roadhazard. That is the total cost on
the car and out the door.

Around $20/tar seems to be common/average.

I wonder - is this thistle green? The cognac interior looks new.

The only obvious issue is the scraped paint above the front fender, on
either side of the aux. fan, seen with the hood open. WTF?

[MBZ] 124 ride height followup rear camber

2015-05-20 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes

Answers to Max's question below.

After 2 months on the modified spring spacer to adjust the rear
camber on the 124, 300D:

 5/20/15 Ride Height

15 3/4 to 16"

Original height when installed: 17" 3/20/15
Ride height after a spirited gymkahna through the fancy house
subdivision: 16"

So the initial drive seated things pretty well.

I believe the average height for a new/good suspension is around 16."
So it looks like I guesstimated pretty well.

I am pleased. Next step is to get it in for alignment in the next few weeks.

[MBZ] Moving

2015-05-20 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
In addition to cutting up and clearing this big tree that blew down which
brought the move to a stand still, aside from a few items still in the house,
and the house needing a complete cleaning, some paint, new carpet etc, I still
have a garage full of parts and a back yard with a few more cars and tons of
body parts to move out. Who's idea was it to move again?
